The XZ-1 is a fun little pocket filler. I’ve owned it twice so far. Replaced it with an Oly E-PM1 which isn’t much bigger but squeezes in a m43 sensor.
Read a comment on DP Review that you can achieve AE by first achieving AF lock (assuming you’re willing to do so.) It’s convoluted but apparently does exist. Set it to one of the underwater modes and press the Down button. This should lock AF. Aim and half-press the shutter to lock AE. I also read that if you frequently do portraits and want to keep the lens fully zoomed for reduced DoF, an underwater setting will force the camera to zoom in all the way whenever it’s turned on.
Yea-ah! Zoom with your feet, man! Have a real soft spot for the Mju2 - it was my pocketable, documentation camera for the Student newspaper when I was at Uni, back in the day.
I have this camera and have used it for 3 years and last year I sold it for money reasons 😂 this camera is better if you add a lens converter in front of it and add it hood lens + filter UV , Especially if you add an additional group, it's very handsome to look at
I love Sabbath. I daresay top 5 in Michigan. Also try that new Korean Fried Chicken place right next to Sabbath coffee place when you get a chance. It was only in Grand rapids but they opened up a branch there recently.
Portra colors just had the slight edge, slightly overexposed it looks so good. But the Olympus XZ-1 really wasn't far behind, really pleasant rich colors, unlike all the modern stuff.
Hi Eric, I bought a Fuji X-E3 recently (together with XF18mm f2.0, XF27mm f2.8 and XF50mm f2.0) because I really wanted to try the Fuji ecosystem after hearing a lot of good things about it (as a JPEG shooter, film simulations and all the possibilities to tweak the JPEGs looked very appealing to me). I chose the X-E3 for budget and size reasons… as a happy owner of a Sony RX10 mk4, I was looking for something smaller which was performing better in low light/bokeh. I sold my RX100 mk5 to buy the Fuji. I never enjoyed its ergonomics… In the past I’ve also had some other cameras: Canon G1X Mk1 & Mk2, and a Sony A6500. As you can see, I am some kind of non-interchangeable lens lover, and it is still the case. Fuji X-E3 was my second attempt to the ILC world (after the A6500) and I am not enjoying it too much. But what worries me even more, I am not enjoying the X-E3… Autofocus is not good at all, at least in medium-low light (maybe on a sunny day it is), or I am not being able to make it work. In summary, I am thinking on selling my Fuji kit and buy a compact zoom camera. As I’ve seen you are/have been a Fuji owner, and also have owned many compact cameras, I would like your advice on which compact camera to buy. There are my priorities: - Good/reliable autofocus (I am more a photographer than video shooter, but I do occasionally family videos) - Compact size (it doesn’t have to be a very small camera, but for sure not a DSLR-like, as I already have a fantastic RX10 mk4 there) - Good low light performance - Bright zoom lens (I’ve learnt I don’t like a fix lens when using my Fuji primes) These are the options I am considering: - Canon G1X Mk3 (big sensor, dual pixel, manual controls) - Canon G5X (longer focal range, bright lens) - Panasonic LX100 Mk2 (big sensor, manual controls, bright lens) - Panasonic LX10/15 (bright lens, manual controls) Which would be your pick between these 4? Any other better option?
Well, I’m not sure what you mean by good AF but the best of that bunch might be the G1x mk3 because of the APSC sensor and dual pixel AF. However if I’m not mistaken it’s a 2.8 lens? The LX100II would be my choice but it’s contrast detect AF which not great for tracking but great for single AF. The other cameras you mentioned are no different than your previous Sony camera with the small exception that the LX10 is a 1.4 lens vs 1.8 on your RX100 mk5. Same issue with the LX10, it’s contrast AF.
Thanks for your feedback. I guess the G1X is the one ticking more checkboxes here... only weak point is lens brightness (but I've read lens is very sharp), rest is good: big sensor, manual controls, good aitofocus. LX100 mk2 is also compelling, being autofocus the weakest point... hard decision: brightness VS autofocus. GX5 is tempting for its longer focal length and bright lens, which could compensate the smaller sensor... but autofocus will be worst than the G1X, and manual controls are not so good... and not sure about ergonomics...
