  • How to remove the plate to clean the drain on a Bosch Front Loading washer.
The amount of water that comes out will vary, depending on where in the cycle it stops. I've had a few cups to a couple of gallons that needs to drain. Keeping some towels handy helps.

4 years later still a life saver. Thank you so very much for uploading this video!! Lots, and lots of towels for sure.

I can hardly fix anything but with your video I was able to fix my washer… and get back to laundry day-🙄. Thanks!!

Thank you so much! I'm at a clients house and her washer coded as I was doing her laundry. Had no idea how to open the machine. Used a flexible cutting board and wedged it under the edge to drain it into a flex tub. There was a ton of filthy water and apparently a black cloth mask, small rocks, some small metal rod and general nastiness. I wouldn't have figured it out without your video.

Thank you very much for providing this video! We had this very problem for the third time in just a few months today, and this time we were able to solve it ourselves instead of paying hundreds of dollars for a service call! Thanks so much!!

Thank you Dean Harder...we have a Bosch W&D purchased 2007..and I could not find any other video to show removing the cover plate on this older model (WFMC330) and accessing the drain area. Thank you for this post! We appreciate you!

This video was so helpful, i was going to call a repair tech, i did exactly as instructed (so much water poured out) and found wire, coins, and the drain was so dirty. Thank you saved $$$$$

Thank you for this. I needed to open this compartment, got the cover off but then found the twisty round bit impossible to turn. I was using channel locks to get a grip and I felt I was in danger of breaking he handle. Thanks to your video, I knew it needed to turn left, counter clockwise (yes, "lefty loosy" but it wasn't turning, so it wasn't obvious to me). After some effort, I was able to get the twisty round bit to turn and it helped a lot to know which way it needed to turn.

Thanks for the video. It was short and sweet. The twisty grey spinning part had separated from the black plug that you showed in the video. It took little effort to slowly get the spinner out. The drain was totally plugged with a small "gentleman's pocket-handkerchief. Thanks for posting

I cut the end off of a yogurt container that was big enough to fit over the drain. That way the water could mostly drain into a shallow pan on the floor and avoided a lot of clean up.

This is a demo video only. He talks about the water coming out but it doesn't in this video. If your problem was like mine (a piece of cloth blocking the drain) there will be A LOT of water coming out. I had 4 large bowls full. Once the bowl started to fill, I tightened it back up, emptied the bowl on the lawn, and repeated. Unscrew slowly.

Thanks. The amount of water will vary, depending on when in the cycle the outlet gets blocked. After posting this video, I've had it occur a couple of times. One of them was from a small sock in the drain. For that, I drained almost two gallons.

Because of your heads up, I readied my wet/dry vac, no need for towels or trays, But no one mentions how to clean the way back scum. To be continued.

Be cautious after removing access door, the edges of the access are sharp and can cut the back of your hand as you turn the 'plug'. Also clean the threads before screwing the plug back as the threads will have grit that can keep the plug from sealing tightly.

I'm sorry that this has not corrected your problem. That has worked for me when I've gotten the error several times.
Some other sites say that it may be due to too much suds from too much soap (all-errors.com/bosch-washer-error-code-e04)
If that doesn't take care of it, there may be something deep in the drain causing the problem, or you may need to contact a repair person.

Anyone having this issue recurring? I’ve followed the instructions. The first time there was some grit and plastic, but now it just seems to error out every 4-5 loads. Fortunately, I’ve had luck just re-running a cycle or running the drain cycle, but this is getting annoying. I don’t want to call someone out to look at it if they are just going to repeat what I do.

Same. I'm going to try this first but the machine is usually a spin away from finishing.

@@marinoderienzo3176 After another thorough clean-out after the error recurring, I did an empty hot cycle with vinegar. I now never use more than Tide HE up to level 3, no matter low full the load. In the last couple of months, all of my wash cycles have completed AOK. Good luck!

    • @sleepydew
      @sleepydew 5 років тому +1

I put the vinegar in where the detergent goes. Still no recurring problem since then, but as mentioned above I’m also reducing the detergent.

I gave up. This started occurring more and more frequently until it didn't actually fix the problem. We'd had this washer just short of 12 years. My wife didn't love its tendency to get smelly and moldy when we forgot to leave the door open, so there was a bit of a "good riddens" attitude. We replaced it with an LG top-loading HE washer.

K, I know this was a month ago but this might help you. If you get the E:04 error without a grinding noise (the grinding noise usually means there's something stuck in the drain pump and that will need to be cleared), it very often means there's too much suds residue in the drain pump. Apparently the machine is made with the assumption that you will use fabric softener but can, after years and years, develop problems if you don't. To clear this issue up (assuming it will drain at all), run one to three empty hot loads with fabric softener to break up the residue.
