I have a 1998 LS 400 I've been driving since I was 16. I'm 27 and still love this car and can't get rid of it. I have almost 300k miles on it. They actually go past a million miles and people just get rid of them around 500k just because they want a new one. I really want a truck, but I cannot get rid of the reliability and drive quality of this car. Plus it has sentimental value bc my mom got it for me and she passed 7 years ago. She got a deal on it used when it was 10 years old. If I have a son, I want him to drive this car. I'm going to run it until the wheels fall off. I also heard a rumor from a guy that worked at toyota that if you put 1 million miles on this car that Lexus will give you a current version model of the car possible in exchange for your million mile car. Not sure how true that is. Btw, that is a tiny sun visor.
Im thinking about buying a used 1998 ls 400 with 160,000, i hear the spark plugs are hard to change, you get yours tuned up, these cars have old distributor caps.

The reason the heated seats in LS400 do not work well is because the leather is non perforated. They improve the heated seats in the LS430 with perforated seats
Got my 99 lexus ls 400 with 90,000 for $1000 and runs great! 175, 000 on it now. Replacing valve cover tomorrow. Replaced Front sir suspension with traditional. Averaging 21 miles per gallon on regular gas. Most comfortable drive ever.

By the way FIY it is a 4.0 liter v8 , and around 01/02' it became the 4.3 v8 hence the the model name LS 430, so your model number denotes your engine in liters example, GS 300 3.0 liter inline 6, es300 3.0 v6 , sc 400 4.0 v8. But anyhow, and congrats man considering an LS after having many other used cars , those have been one of my favorite cars of all times thanx for sharing
What are your opinions on the 1991 LS 400 V8... I was given one, it runs fairly well but needs a paint job, maybe an oxygen sensor, and some bodywork. Any ideas what to look out for mechanically in the future?
Just some info. The back seats don't fold down because the gas tank is behind them. The gas tank is in between the rear seats and the trunk. Just think about that for the size of the rear seats and the size of the trunk and they still managed to fit the gas tank between them hahaha.
That actually is indeed a tiny third sun visor. Seems stupid till the day the sun just so happens to be shining between the roof and mirror. Also, familiarize yourself with the cruise control toggle stick, its amaaaazing

I bought my LS400 3 months ago. It's also a 1998 model, but here in the UK they ALL came out with the touchscreen unit. I paid the equivalent of around $1.750, and since then had to weld the roof as it rains a lot here and it rusted through just above the windscreen. New windscreen was installed too, some new trims etc. A bill of about $1.300. Then 2 weeks later the alternator and battery died the same day. New battery and rebuilt alternator set me back around $250. Considering that a good example would cost around $5.000 here, I call that a win. The only thing that needs done now is the backlight on a couple of small LCD's around the Sat-Nav, but I know a guy who said he would do the full LED conversion of all buttons and LCD's for around $120. Not bad at all.
Ok thank God that isnt the case. I found an oil leak on my 98 yesterday and was scared thinking its the ps fluid but its engine oil. Its good that its not the ps pump but its still not good because it could be the valve cover gaskets, oil pump, cam seals or something wasnt tightened properly. Wish me luck.

These cars are the best when theyre running but a pain when they need repair. If it makes you feel any better I left mine in the shop today for that oil leak and had to get a ride home.
$1000 is just the starting price of expenditure .luxo cars can be quite expensive when parts fail ..and they usually do. I hope to get a decent Lexus soon...possibly the most reliable of the older luxury cars.

Wow. That trunk is HUGE! I had a 98 Infiniti Q45, very similar to a Lexus, but for some reason the trunk was small. It looked big on the outside, but opening it was a jaw dropper.
I just bought one. 1997 Ls400. Ot only has 90, 000 miles on it. Everything looks like it was pampered. Looking at this to know whats wrong with yours to compare. I put pics on my Instagram if anyone wants to look. My only issue is no Bluetooth no aux jack. A 7 CD changer in...the glove box r above it rather. And a Phone in the arm rest. Imma watch now to see if you got a phone too. Yea..A/C is cold and runs over dips and bumps smoothly too!
FORC3OFX F3AR I’m pressure washing my intake/throttle , replacing hoses, a few gaskets , and since I leaked all my coolant I may be to the wrecking yard to get another radiator. Since the top of mine dry seeps.
The old Lexus look more luxurious. I don’t like the plastic door panels on the new ones as well as the fake leather on the sides and backs of the seats. This one is better looking with the plush leatherette door panels. Lexus sure has cheapened up.
Wow I could make almost an identical video! Mine is a 97, it was handed down to the daughter who bought a new car, and it had 251k when I bought it a couple months ago. I’ve replaced the headlight assembly and driver side mirror ($25 total at pick n pull) and it needs valve adjustment and gaskets and I’m going to reseal the power steering pump. When I went to look at it, the power steering leak appeared to be a front main seal leak which I think really helped with negotiation. I’ve put about 3,000 miles on it since and it’s still doing great
I was waiting for the drive test and review,, great buy, We have a 93 LS400 in very nice condition, it has done about 320k kms which I think is just under 200k miles. Still drives beautifully but soon it will need a new starter motor, now that is not something to look forward to, it is under the inlet manifold so all the middle of the motor has to come off the top and the starter motor is deep down inside. I am sure they did that to make people like me very happy,,,, not. but well worth fixing and bringing up to a high standard regardless of the mileage. Hope you enjoy it and keep it a long time.
The base 1uzfe is extremely strong, fully forged crank forged rods, they'll take 1000 hp with proper upgrades built on top of the block as these engine blocks were built with expressed approval for Indy car races which never actually happened on the Toyota project at the time back then, so here is where they landed in the big luxury LS 400's. Basically it explains why the starter is where it is for the most part, it's origination was a race bred design, tamed down to fit nicely in luxury cars.

I must say I've had three Lexus cars and I'm still holding on to my 1997 Lexus LS400 coach Edition very very reliable car , and it has a 146000 miles on it and it rides so smooth

Most of the time when the alternators go bad on these cars its due to the PS pump leaking. Hope its not the case on yours.

Your strut bar bushings are probably worn out at that mileage. You can either swap bushings or buy the strut bars.
They are great cars I have a 1994 that I bought for $2,000 for years ago and it is still running good for me.
