Mackie should pay you for this video. I just bought one of these so my 12 year old can UA-cam karaoke with effects, via ChromeCast/Roku and I can record it. Nice job. Thank you for all the good information. It was $149 at local Guitar Center. I didn't want to buy junk, and you made this look decent! TYVM. - Ed
According to the manual, the USB feature is only an input (USB thru). Can you confirm if there is a USB output to a computer. Update: I was wrong. There is a USB output to a computer. I am currently using an XLR microphone and connecting it through this Mackie mixer and into my iMac. Works great.
We decided on one of these for a podcast esc side project we are wanting to do, and this make me feel more comfortable with our purchase. The tips were helpful as well! We chose this instead of a Focusrite (6i) Interface. I prefer mixers since it gives a variety of options and allows us to have more physical control of the sound. Perhaps that will change in the future, but for now I'm looking forward to getting this.
New subscriber: I just inhirited a media center at my school and we have the ProFX8v2 8-CH Effects Mixer with USB can you explain the difference between the sliders / knob 7-band graphic EQ for tuning mains or monitors and the knobs
I see there is room for 4 three prong microphone Jacks. Is there at leased 2 acoustic Guitar Plugs? Does the Monitor have to be an Active Speaker or Passive. Can you use an electric Guitar amp for a monitor speaker on this mixer?
Like yr videos really good inside of the product I have one of this mixer which channel is good to hook up the DJ controller I use 7&8 but I here yu say 1&2 only have The control for line and Microphone
I wish you would have explained the Hybrid 3/4 and 5/6. If I plug mono XLRs into the top of the strips can I add two 1/4" lines as well and how do I control the mix?
Great Video. Thank you for making it available. I am very confused about how to use the Presets on the Effects Engine. Any advise on that? I need it specifically for karaoke singing where I am bringing the karaoke track on a separate channel and singing on the mic , on the first channel on the left. Thank you 🙏
Just subscribed to your channel. Your the most detailed instructor to date, regarding the same component I own with the Mackie FX8 and others. I am wondering if you could take a few minutes and tell me the best way to hook up my equipment. I have the Pioneer DDJ SR2, a Behringer 31 channel Graphic EQ, and the Mackie FX8. Id like to use all three. Would I be correct that the Controller should go through the Graphic EQ first, and then into the Mackie? And if so, what cables should I use. My plans are to use channels 5/6 on the mackie coming out of the Behringer. The Behringer has 1/4 and xlr in/out, and also has a dedicated channel for subs which is XLR. I am hoping to find out which cables I need to use for the correct setup, and if this can be accomplished. You mentioned in a previous video about balanced and unbalanced cables being used in different applications for the Mackie FX10. Im pretty sure I got a good handle on how to hook it up, but would love to hear your recommendations for best sound and hookup.

Hi Robin, thanks for this tutorial. We just bought the 8 channel version. We also bought an LD Maui 28 GS Line Array PA. But we're going nuts trying to figure out how the correct connections can be made. PLEASE could you kindly help? The Mackie has two balanced XLR male outputs. R/L. The Maui gas two 6.3mm Jack inputs, L/R. Question 1. If we use mono jacks into both Maui inputs and switch it to mono (we only have one of them) can we safely play ? Question 2. If we use stereo jacks and connect both L/R at both ends, even the Maui mono button on, are we going blow something up? Question 3. If we used only the L/mono output from the Mackie and the L/mono input on the Maui, even with stereo jack, is that the safest thing to do until we by a second Maui. I've tried to get an answer from Maui, but their distributor is as confused as I am. Or maybe it's me? Thanks in anticipation. And if anyone wants to jump in, please be my guest. Thanks
To Keep this easy the Speaker has L/R input so if you plug your Phone, Tablet or Computer you Can Have Mix stereo out of 1 speaker. I would use XLR cables to connect the mixer to the Speaker ( note the 6.5 jack on the Speaker is a combo jack there are 3 small holes for the XLR cable to plug in to). if your using only 1 cable set the balance of the mixer to the left and plug the speaker into the left xlr output. if 2 cables you can now set the balance in the middle or left to right your call.
Hey. You're doing nice videos - reviews, a lot of information specs, explaining how it works. I want to ask if you will do review about new Mackie Thump 12A PA speakers? I think it would be cool because these speakers are popular and they compete with Alto's TS series :). P.S. Nice review about this mixer!
Hey nice video somehow im not getting to use the USB to Pc to record my mixes the usb audio interface isnt showing on my Pc do i have to get a specific audio driver to install first?
Do the mute buttons on this mixer mute the channels completely or do they just mute them from the main mix? So if I have an input on channel 7/8 and I mute it will I still be able to hear it in my headphones or not at all?
Yes Just push in the (MUTE) button on the channel you want to keep off the Main but you will still hear the live channel. you are looking for both a Mute button and PFL button. ( PFL ) the button will cut that channel from your headphones. we have one from PYLE Pro here is the link to the PMXU46BT ua-cam.com/video/n9NEDIqBbXs/v-deo.html

Hi There. Good video no doubt about that. Question. Can you isolate the effects to only the Mic so as it doesn't effect the guitar; which would have it's own dedicated FX Unit? Also I had my headphones on as volume from my laptop speakers was up 100% and was too low to hear properly so when you went through the mic feedback test it near blew my ears off. Just sayin'
Just got one of these going to use it for 2 peice band, guitar and drums, so will use first channel for guitar, 2 and 3 xlr for 2 vocal mics, and need to Mic up kit with the other options, thinking of using the last xlr for bass drum so that leaves 7/8 (for rest of 5 peice kit)and could I use the ST Return jacks? Thanks.
I know it’s an old video now but I just got this mixer and when plugged into my PC I’m seeing the sound card as mono, so am I only limited to using it as a mono sound card or is there a way to get a channel 1 and channel 2?

I am extremely disappointed with the Mackie mixer profx8 v2 I purchased 3 years ago. Despite its initial good quality, the durability of the product is severely lacking. Recently, the mixer malfunctioned for the second time and required repairs. To my surprise, when I contacted customer service, I was informed that the product has been discontinued and that spare parts also discontinued and are no longer available. This is unacceptable, as the mixer was only launched 5 years ago and should not have reached the end of its life span so quickly. The fact that there are no longer any spare parts available to replace the malfunctioning parts only adds to the frustration. It is ok if the product discontinue, but spare part discontinue? It is big NO NO!!! I would not recommend this product to anyone due to its poor durability and the lack of support from the company.

It is a Non-powered mixer so you will need a powered PA head or powered speakers. I recommend the 15' Thump Series.

Stereo. It would be very much larger and more expensive if it had 8 dedicated i/o ins and outs to a computer.
