Great video. I'm planning to buy it. As a result my wish to buy it, I have watched and re-watched this video several times. This is as a result of the fact that I am a newbie. Being a newbie means that I'm still intimidated by this mixer and its apparent complexity. However, this video has calmed a lot of my fears. So, thank you for this video and please keep it up!
Great job, thanks for taking your time to do this for us (even for the ungrateful). Just ordered the 16 channel and looking fwd to more v3 tutorials 👍🏼
1:39 "There's no more EQ on this mixer." But there is??? 3-band EQ on all channels. Thanks for this video. Looking forward to the 16 channel version which I'm teetering on the edge of buying for my home studio.
V2 had a 7 band master eq and feedback elimination. This one lacks those features but adds 4 dedicated compressor knobs to the first 4 channels and 2 hi Z inputs on the first 2 channels for guiter/bass DI.
I bought one and soon sold it on Ebay, the noise floor was way too high - it was hissing city, and no good at all for recording. Not worthy of the Mackie name IMHO.
So, Is it possible to play the playback coming from Ableton by USB on 1 stereo channel of the mixer, and at the same time during the same session, record on Ableton the master track of the mixer?
Thanks for the videos. I’ve had the Pro FX12 for years and just got the Pro FX22v3. What I didn’t realize was that there’s no graphic equalizer sliders on the v3. I’m used to that on the old version and wondering if there’s no need or if I should tie in an equalizer. Old school here and like to really tune my live sound. Thanks!
I’m interested in this mixer, 10 channel version. I can’t seem to find any answer to the question, when using USB does the DAW see all channels or just the left and right like the majority of mixers on the market?
Hey Robin I have a question...I am using the sub out to a subwoofer and a have a couple channels isolated using 1+2 (bass and kick drum) Do You recommend using the low cut button to minimize feedback and maximize volume at that low of a frequency. ..
Only use the Low Cut button when you have a vocal mic plugged in. that's what they are traditionally used for. It's to get the BOOMYness & PLOSIVES out of a vocal mix...also reduces mic rumble that you sometimes get in windy situations. Don't use it if you are micing up an instrument..amp or using the line inputs
Hi. Great review- thank you for explaining so much. I recently purchased one of these but find something baffling; with the To Phones/Control Rm button depressed, a guitar plugged into Channel One with the HiZ button depressed, and the GigFx engine turned on, all of the 24 effects are able to be heard on headphones EXCEPT Fx Distortion. I would like to do scratch recordings to my computer using the onboard distortion with the Blend knob, but the distortion isn't present when the To Phones/Control Rm button is depressed. I can't understand why all the effects are audible except distortion. If I disengage the To Phones/Control Rm button, the distortion is audible, as are any other of the 24 effects. I've tried every kind of combination of switches and faders that I can think of. Do you have any suggestions? I contacted Mackie support on their website but I thought maybe you could provide some insight. I discovered that I CAN get Fx Distortion to work with the To Phones/Control Rm button depressed. BUT.... to get the distortion to be present, the Blend knob has to be rotated past center, counterclockwise toward USB 1-2. The further the knob is rotated; the more distortion gain is achieved. The problem with this is: the computer mix volume is increased also. This seemingly defeats the purpose of using the Blend knob, which is: to adjust the relation between the computer mix volume and the guitar input volume- at least when a guitar player is recording using the onboard distortion effect. The only way to change the ratio of Gig FX distortion input signal to DAW signal is to turn the Blend knob to the point where you are satisfied with the level of distortion and go back to the DAW's software and make level adjustments there. The Blend knob seems to act as a gain adjustment- from clean to very distorted. This also contradicts what you said when describing the Blend knob- that when the knob is cranked fully counterclockwise, no input signal is heard. With the distortion effect engaged, the processed input signal IS heard. So weird that only the distortion effect changes when cranking the blend knob. None of the other effects are increased when cranking the knob to the right. It's like the other effects are routed differently. You would think they would all be routed the same way in the chain.
Great video. 👍 One question. Might be a silly one. But ,where do you plug an external vocal effect unit in. I I have the mackie cfx12. I connect it using 3 Jack plugs. But the layout is slightly different on the fxpro. Thanks
The mixer does not have a AUX out so it probably is done with the Monitor send or FX send then back into another channel. I think he touches on this very briefly at 17:10 in the video. (They expect you to...) I think you have to go out then to your FX external effect unit or compressor, etc. then back in a separate channel, so a single microphone would require 2 channels. I still haven't figured it out. I'm going to just give it a try by using a Y insert cable. Unfortunately, most of us didn't go to a Sound Tech trade school.
What if I want to have a mixture of condenser microphones and non condenser Dynamic microphones and maybe some instruments? May I choose the tracks that get the 48v Phantom power? Or is it all or nothing?
It's all or nothing. Had to read the manual on the Mackie site for this detail and it seems that switch to turn on the 48v Phantom power, puts phantom power for ALL the channel inputs. So no single channel phantom power.
Really wanted a mic/compression test in this video. I have the V6 version I use when I'm hosting Trivia and it works amazingly for that. I'm considering the 12v3 model for my podcasting efforts cause of the built in compression but wondering if I should go external or not.
You could but you will never have any more Bass than equal to or Less than your Mains. If you are looking for more Bass at lower volume levels look at the Monitor output. Now you can have all the Subwoofer with No Mains.
Excellent work thank you Could you help with the gain controls on channels without compressor , don't seem to do anything I am using 7-8 9-10 as stereo inputs from a soundcard to DJ
Question... I have this mixer, and using it primarily for Karaoke. Currently i have (2) mics hooked up to channel 1 & 2, DVD player on channel 3,4,5 & 6, DJ System to channel 7&8. I'm wondering if this is ideal, or is there a better way to connect? Thanks in advance!
Hi, possible I would like your advice .. for years for my recordings made only at home and in my small home recording studio, I use a sound card (Steinberg ur22) + 2 Mackie monitors + 1 sub .. I use guitars, bass and microphone a Rhode condenser .. then a chain of effects pedal + a Boss GT1 pedal board .. (I don't need to use multiple instruments at the same time because I play alone and record my own music .. (I use Cubase and record the track for each instrument I want to record ) .. I must say that the recordings are really good and those who listen to them always tell me that I get a really good sound .. for some time, however, I have been thinking of a mixer and having more inputs available (compared to the steinberg mentioned), I would keep connected guitar, bass and microphone without having to disconnect the jacks from the inputs every time .. but the main idea is above all to be able to add effects to each track .. eq, low, hi, etc .. which I usually add with soft ware in cubase ... in addition to having the faders like in professional mixers (even the eye wants its part) .. now the question is the following .. buying this mixer, (I read about digital mixers with built-in sound card), would I get a higher quality recording ?? .. (I'm pretty ignorant on the subject and I don't know if the purchase is worth it) .... the available budget is about 250/300 euros or a little more ... the important thing is as I said, get a higher quality .. recommend a mixer (digital / analog / with built-in card) .. would this be okay? .. or do I take Alto Live 802? .. that can satisfy my desire to higher quality or cmq a more professional sound .. thanks in advance. Marco.
Sir ! Thanks for taking your time for tuition. Could you please help me to solve this problem: I have the ProFX12v3 , I would like to connect 2 Studio monitors ( MR8 mk2 ) with it . How does it work ? Thanks for your help.
Love your videos...just purchased a ProFX6v3....I can not get playback from my MacBookPro via the mixer to my monitors, All playback goes to my headphones. Been trying for hours....I hope its something on my end..if not..I will have to return..Just received this on Friday! Need your expertise!! Thank you!
I apologize, i know this video is not recent but may i ask if you can assign different effects to different microphones? Unless you now suggest a different model in 2023 .. I would need a 10 cannels and love vocal vocal live effects Thank you
More confusing to use than the v2. Missing the global eq and RCA input for iPod playback. How does this mixer compare to the Alto mixer offering the same features? You are still the mixer Yoda and have a very soothing mixer-side manner. 🙏
It gets better Now I have 3 screens behind me But I have started learned to keep the graphics fix. always Learning.... Thanks for watching & commenting, I hope to see you Subscribe.
how do you listen to submix 1-2 on headphones? I just got one and there's no button to send sub 1-2 to phones to monitor it. Kinda weird... or am i missing something? The to phones/control room enables all inputs and USB 1-2 not the submix. Anyone know?
Great video, first time here, subscribed. I have a ❓ Could I use this add to my existing DJ mixer to play my AKAI MPC 1 in a live session? I'm thinking of the send receive functions on my current mixer (Denon X1850) to route out to this (Mackie) and back to the Denon. How could I achieve this? I have other equipment to run through the Mack but primarily want to find this out first.
Plug all your gear in to the Mackie including the Denon, drive the speaker of the Mackie, And use the AUX/Monitor output to return the audio back to the Denon (this is call a mix minus)
@@expertisland Thanks expert I will give it a go...I might come back if I have any issues. I know that the AKAI MPC 1 needs to get it's timing/tempo signal from the Denon 1850 plus the SC 6000Ms have to be plugged into the 1850. Be gentle, new to this.
At about 1:40 seconds into this video segment, you state that there's no more EQ on this mixer. I'm confused because I see channel EQ adjustment knobs. Are you talking about Main output EQ?
Hi. Thanks for this video. It’s a great help. My question is this: I broadcast a live show online, and I want to be able to talk over music and listen to it through the headphones to keep track of things. How can I do that on this board?
Great video as always! The channel 11/12 is somewhat like the PreSonus Ar12 “Super Channel”. If you ever get a chance to check out that unit it would make a great video review.
Hello, could you help me to know how to record sounds from youtube for example to the recording program of the same computer, I could not get it, thanks
Ok I tried a TC Helicon PA and stomp pedal through this mixer to one mackie 215XT and couldn’t get any signals. Not sure why ? Can anyone suggest why ?
Just received my profx12v3 touse with my 2016 MacBook Pro. It's recognized in my midi setup but, I'm not getting any sound from it to my powered speakers. I have the USB 3/4 button pressed down. All I want to do is use the mixer between my MacBook Pro and powered speakers for DJing. If you could point me in the right direction for setup, I'd sincerely appreciate it. Thanks
Thats correct, whatever setting you select in the FX engine will apply to all the channels. The yellow FX knob for the channel controls how much comes through on the channel. Unfortunately, you can't adjust any parameters (other than the FX's intensity via the yellow knobs) for any of the FX presets. So the same effect on vocals as an E-drum which isn't very useable. I was considering going to a different mixer after purchasing mine half a year ago because of this (and the useless 1 knob compressor) but an external FX processor seems the better way to go.
my software "audacity" records the music track as well while I record vocals using usb line 3-4 on my mixer profx10v3. How can I fix it please? I just want to record vocals and not the music track using usb. Also, if I want to hear back the recorded vocals I hear a mix coming from channel 9/10 with EQ settings. How can I just hear recorded vocals without using the mix from channel 9-10 please? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hey dude, are you asking in relation to podcasting? Because that's of interest to me as well. Do you think you could adapt a TRS from a phone, into an 3/4 for that input?
@@poalotesta7743 I ended up just purchasing one. It doesn't loop back thru, so you can really set it up however you want. I've been setting it up where I monitor control room, listen to the PC send thru that and only send back the mic, but the way it's designed, you can really route things however you want.
@@poalotesta7743 It makes a mix minus easy, so if you're recording a Skype call, you could split the TRRS and go in to a channel and minus it out of the mix you're sending. I have been using Cleanfeed.net though and it's really great. No need for Skype any more and it's way better quality.
@@thomasw178 Thanks man, yeah I'am really stoked about cleanfeed too. I did a short test with my brother across the pond in the UK and was very impressed. My only problem might be dealing with guests who aren't all that tech savvy and only use the smartphone. Well I guess the capability for phone is there so either, or, I can do both. I've been looking at a few of these hybrids, so far this one checks all the boxes, its a little pricy, say in comparison with a Mackie 12 V3, but looks sweeter.
@expertisland and commenters 😅 how many stereo synths can you plug into this mackie? 6? I want to run my modules and workstations through this and then to an interface, is this possible
Is anybody else having trouble connecting a Mackie ProFx v3 mixer to an iMac? We had no problem making the ProFX work with a PC. But we can't make the ProFx hear sound from the iMac or get the iMac to hear sound from the ProFx. We set the iMac to use the mixer for both input and output sound, to no avail.
@Truth Filter For UA-cam Thanks. I eventually got it to work this way. My mistake was that I did not initially refer to the speakers as "3" and "4" and instead had referred to them as "1" and "2." While I can now hear UA-cam videos through speakers connected to the ProFX6 v3, sound doesn't go from Ableton to speakers through the Mackie ProFx6 v3. Oddly, I can hear sound from Ableton if I plug a speaker in the ProFX6 v3 headphone jack but not if I plug the speakers into the speaker jacks.
I have a question, I just ordered a pro fx10 v3 and I noticed it doesn’t have an aux input, how would I be able to use a monitor with this mixer? Or is not possible because it doesn’t t have an aux input?
I’m using this mixer/interface with Cubase, but am having trouble with recorded tracks signaling into the next recording track...I’ve turned down my output monitors and tried playing with headphones on, but the monitoring signal continues to be routed back to the audio recording. I would really appreciate if someone using this mixer with Cubase could help me figure this out.

So the effects affect all the devices right? So I can not have a mic with reverb and bass with distortion right?
Thats correct, whatever setting you select in the FX engine will apply to all the channels. The yellow FX knob for the channel controls how much comes through on the channel. Unfortunately, you can't adjust any parameters (other than the FX's intensity via the yellow knobs) for any of the FX presets. So the same effect on vocals as an E-drum which isn't very useable. I was considering going to a different mixer after purchasing mine half a year ago because of this (and the useless 1 knob compressor) but an external FX processor seems the better way to go.
Does v3 still have feedback suppression?
my software "audacity" records the music track as well while I record vocals using usb line 3-4 on my mixer profx10v3.
Thank you for the Question, I answered Your Question in a video ua-cam.com/video/fjxRps102QU/v-deo.html I hope this helps.
How can I get it to play through a dang speaker?
Do those have to be connected to a pc in order to work live?
Yes, the 12v2 had mute buttons as well.
Does the USB in from the PC "loop back" thru the USB or is that deleted from the main mix going back to the computer when recording out?
Hello
Went you make the review of the new baringer vari 4115 15.
I have this mixer board, I can’t figure out how to get anything to show up on the Meter, even when I press the solo buttons.
This or the Yamaha mg12xu? I got the profx10 v3 but I’m looking into getting a bigger mixer and can’t decide between this one of the Yamaha

Hi, is this capable of doing mix-minus using the usb connection?
How many different instruments/inputs can we record simultaneously?
That's the 65,000 question 😅😅😅
Is the software compatible with Catalina?

Are there any mixers with 4 monitor mixes?
Good explanation but the unit should be facing front not side..
what is the control out for, the ones under the main outs?
What’s the deal with the sound card?
it is possible to record multitracks only with this console
Where the monitor is connect
sir,how do u think about soundcraft signature 12..
I'd also like to know this?

Record 3 channels 1 from and 3 to Apple Ma via Mavkie mixer

I’m using this mixer/interface with Cubase, but am having trouble with recorded tracks signaling into the next recording track...I’ve turned down my output monitors and tried playing with headphones on, but the monitoring signal continues to be routed back to the audio recording. I would really appreciate if someone using this mixer with Cubase could help me figure this out.
Audio interface options? Multitrack?
No multi track, you only get two out of 16...
How do I remove the combo jack so I can plug in an XLR mic into channel 1?
The combo jack has large hole for the 1/4 and 3 small pin hole for the xlr built in.
@@expertisland correct, so how do I remove the 1/4 jack in order to plug in an XLR?
@@LocalMachine combi jack can take xlr or 1/4 jack. No need to remove anything.
@@derickalbert I am an idiot, thanks so much. Total newbie to this mixer. Thanks!! I love this mixer though.
@@LocalMachine I am getting one today, I hope it serves me well. I picked this one compared to soundcraft signature 10.
Does it have bluetooth sir?thank you
It should have Bluetooth But No, not on the ProV3
