I have come to realise, even though as a lead guitarist, James isnt that flashy, his accuracy is pretty impeccable and impressive.
He is on rhythm, right !!
Exactly! I remember his suicide and redemption solo in Copenhagen. It was pretty much studio level. Yes, Kirk writes (or at least used to write) the more catchy, cool, and technically complex solos (complex for Metallica's sound and standards) but James always had such tight rhythm and accuracy. Probably comes from his drumming.

i was there this was soo goooood live but seeing them play master of puppets & creeping death & fight fire with fire was indescribable! i've been trying for 30 yrs to see them but it never worked out when they were near, my 22 yr old son bought tix last yr & took me for my 47th birthday, we were on the floor about 5 rows back(no chairs so it's hard to gauge a "row") i've been to a lot of metal concerts over 30 yrs but they were hands down the best show i've ever saw! beyond great! coolest thing i've ever done w/my kids my son picked up a guitar bc of them, this was so much fun i felt like i was 16 again 🤘🏼/m\ (edit for unnoticed typos before post, yea i'm that asshole)😂✌🏼
