Not sponsored by the stove (no sponsors) but I do have a stove addiction and saw this one in Kevin Callan's recent series up to Opasquaia park. It weighs about 6lbs (it's stainless steel) but if you're in a group or not portaging much, it's an excellent stove. It's made in Canada by a guy in Ontario: www.blacksprucegear.ca/Products.php My usual stick stove for portage-heavy is from a small shop in Manitoba (Yukon Mini titanium model). It's fantastic. The advantage of the bigger one is that it can take larger sticks, has more surface area and integrated grill, and has a double-walled bottom for extra ground protection. www.canoepaddler.net/shop Neither are cheap but they're built to last and both save tons of fuel cannisters and therefore money over time.
Jon, I have held back from sharing this, as I didn’t want it to be taken as a negative, but I assure you this is a huge compliment. When I need to sneak in a nap, I will throw in my headphones, and put on a video where you solo adventure, that is 30+ minutes. You have a very calm demeanor, and the sounds of the water and thunder and fire, all help me relax enough to sleep. When my son was 4, and spent several nights in the hospital due to pneumonia, you helped me sleep during a pretty awful time. Of course, I still watch and throughly enjoy (and am very engaged in) every video, but just wanted to share that your videos help in more ways than just one.
As a dad (and grandpa) I can tell you that these days are so,so precious to your dad, Jon (whether he tells you on not 😊). Seems like a nice guy too, which is no surprise to anyone😊. Beautiful little vignette after that last marathon!
Chilling with your dad somewhere like that, few beers, some nice grub. Honestly nothing better. My old man ain’t got the legs for hiking or camping anymore but we still get out to fish every so often and I’m grateful for that.
I loved seeing you and your dad get to enjoy the time together. Thank you fur sharing that with us. I lost mine in 2010. We took many camping trips together. I truly wish he was still alive. Make as many memories with him for as long as you can!
Great trip! So nice to see your dad again. It’s wonderful that he enjoys and appreciates nature like you do. You can see he is just so, so proud of you. The footage of the early morning was spectacular 🤩
Great timing! I was just looking for something else to watch. Have to admit you spoiled us a bit with that epic honeymoon camping expedition. Best to you and Erin.
I always click on Lost Lakes when I want to feel like I’m actually there. Jon, your videography is second to none. Your drone work is absolutely beautiful. You really know how to capture the magnificent beauty of your surroundings. Your videos bring me such peace and relaxation and makes me long to be out there in my canoe. Keep up the fantastic work.
You are so lucky to get to camp with your dad ❤ I used to take my mom out for hikes a couple time a year until 2021. She fell and injured her back and could never carry a backpack again. Now she has Alzheimers and lives in a home, and turns 89 in January. I'm telling you this just as a reminder for you to cherish the moments you get to spend outdoors with your parents. Life is short. Loving your videos 🥰 thank you for sharing your trips with us. And greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
I am happy for you, Jon, but also envious. My dad was a backcountry camper back before I was old enough to join him. Then his climb up the corporate ladder took him away from the woods and he never got back. By the time I discovered my own passion for this stuff, he was gone. I have few regrets … but one is never having gone backcountry camping with my dad. :-(
I spent most of my life too ill to do anything like this, but it's so lovely to watch these films, you really capture the vibe - Poppa Lakes is great - and getting to show him the joys of sleeping under stars, and not being so purist you don't share Doritos is so magic. Just lost my script agent and your channel is like the best reminder that the world itself is wonderful. thanks!!!
I love that your dad appreciates the time he gets to spend with you, I honestly can't imagine such a nice trip with either of my parents (and they love camping)! Cheers to you and yours, and the unspoiled Canadian wilderness that brings us all together. ❤️
Nice Jon. My Dad wasn't a camper or canoeist - he ran his own business in T.O - but he loved to fish and on our annual vacations to Honey Harbor he taught me to fish too, spending hours untangling my "birds nests" when my reel fouled. He passed 10 years ago and I still miss him. It warms my heart to see you enjoying that time with your dad. I still have a few of his rods and some of his giant NIB wooden "Pikey Minnow" lures - complete with huge table hooks!! - that I display. LOL. I can't believe we used lures like that in the 60's/70's
So much access to water, wilderness, and solitude in that part of the country it never ceases to impress me. Nothing else like it anywhere. The entire region should be protected as it is.
Gotta say so awesome to see you guys drinking Lake of the Woods Brewery beers on the lake, im from winnipeg and thats my go to for micro brewery beers. Ill cheers to the lakes with you guys from home, cheers to our lakes, heaven on earth .#supportlocal
Hey Jon, thanks for this, watching you get out there prompted me to get out there so one canoe trip to Temagami and another trip to Lake Superior to do some back country hiking and camping later, I just wanted to say thanks for the motivation and at 65 years old it was a real challenge. Keep it up !
So great that you can get out on trips with your dad! Sometimes it's hard to take time away from the longer and more difficult trips, but these smaller excursions with family are so meaningful and memorable! Reminds me that I need to get my own father out there while he's still (partially) able!
Small adventures are the best adventures because they can so often be done now and become a wonderful memory tomorrow which you will have in your pocket forever.
If you can't enjoy a couple of days out camping with your Dad, then you haven't lived life yet! In my younger years I also did this with my Dad and enjoyed every minute. After all, he taught me how to do it. I can't hug you anymore, but think about you around the summertime campfires.
Well John, after that raucous belch at the beginning of the video, the verdict is in: You really need to be careful how much time you spend with Xander!!! ; )
Cherish those moments with your pops. What a sweet man and it’s clear that he loves you so much. Thank you for sharing him with us. BTW - got my BOI tent stove and I love it! Thanks again for hooking me up with them! Epic customer service and solid product.
It's so heartwarming to see that your Pops is able to make the trek north to camp out with you 🥰 The wind seemed pretty intense, but sometimes it's those little things that you talk about years into the future after such a trip. Well...that and the 2 monster pike he caught. Great job as always, friend. Inspiring more with every video. 🙏
Wonderful experience getting to spend that time with your father on a canoeing trip, in such an incredible part of Northern Ontario. Thanks for sharing with us!
As an artist who loves to draw portraits, I always find it fascinating to look at people's similar facial features and search for similarities, especially when they're relatives. U have a lot common, so cute😊 Also, as your father mentioned, there is definitely wonderful and unspoiled by people scenery out there. So beautiful forest💚
Not too long ago, I was wondering if you were going to do another father/son trip. I resently lost my dad, so make sure you continue these adventures with yours. 😊 I enjoy watching them as well.
Jon, you're a Mung Beam!! No, all BS aside, you guys are soo fortunate to be able to be together at such a special spot. Love the vids, keep 'em comin!!
It looks like a beautiful, intricate lake; good for you. Have you ever employed a reflector oven? My wife and I always traveled with one, broken down and carried flat next to our grub box. They are fantastic and Ive baked everything from bannock and date bars to speckled trout and grayling with no burning or charring.

Stove addiction is a real thing. They call themselves "stovies."
We...call...ourselves...stovies?
- The stove is out of stock. Yikes.
Hi Jon!
Hi Dad!
You will address him as Mr. Dad until you turn 18

dude he gets the watch-time algorithm boost so you're still helping him, haha. Plus you probably watch em again while awake and there's another view.
Same, this and outdoor boys helps me sleep. This channel will be as big as outdoor boys one day.
He’s absolutely right. You have the best job in the world.
So glad you got to go with your dad. Some things will only happen once in your lifetime.
Papa lakes!!! You can’t go wrong with moments like this with your pops. Love this ❤

Nice father and son outing, with great food and beer. Your dad is really cool. So Jonno, do this again, and don't wait 2 years.
Well it was actually my fault that we didn’t go last year as I was doing a huge reno on my house and couldn’t get away.
Good times with family. Just a absolutely awesome channel. Thanks Jon and dad.

Really love the videos with your Dad. Father son adventures are very close to my heart. There can never be too many father son trips in life.

Happy to see you spending time with your dad in the backcountry. 💚
It’s great to see your dad again Jon! Relaxing canoe trips can be fun too. ⛺️🛶😃

I love that Jon knows when to let nature speak for itself.

Wow what a location for a camp and a few beers etc. Magic!
And with your Dad, Slainte.
Good to see another father/son video with pops! He should have his own old man drinking beer while canoe camping channel.
- What a beautiful view. I'm sure being with your dad made everything *much* better. 😊❤
Awwwww. Dear Dad. Dad trying best to say right things ❤❤ Priceless.

These guys are speedrunning every sort of relaxing hobby I can name off the top of my head
May seem like that when 3 days is boiled down to 12m but this was a very relaxed trip
Glad to see pops get out there with you, enjoy these moments which I'm sure you'll treasure.
