    Nope, Happens in the Hudson Valley NY as well.Same situation ,only the person they called to apply the tarp was the same guy that installed the roof 2 months prior.12 ft of soffit damage from tree damage due to a storm.He covered half of a 7 sq section.He charged them $450 to do so.I was called in because of this charge.His greed cost him the job. I Had to replace the entire front of a raised ranch due to different lot numbers.The actual color of the shingles were like night and day although they were the same.The amount of shingles needed totaled 1 bundle to do original repair needed.If he left a bundle behind as I do, after an install it would have been repaired for far less then needed.Happens all of the time but all you can do is keep true and honest as you are and keep transparent to inform all of the homeowners too scared to go up themselves.Good channel TY

    Most of the time, you can break pull those felt caps, break the shingles loose, and squirt some stuff in between on the hole - push down so it squeezes out of the top hole ... it's not as good as replacing it all, but it does work. Use a bad ass sealant like a urethane (vulkem). The ridge, maybe not.

    Once the Deck is Pierced, Manufacturers Installation Instructions (which reverts to Building Code), would require the whole underlayment be replaced, and since the roof is contiguous, most Insurance companies would pay to have the entire roof replaced, and replacement of the seamless gutters damaged by the tree. Insurance would also pay for Tree Removal and Emergency Tarping. Doing a quick repair is a disservice, IMHO, for the customer. Dealing with a Contractor that knows how to supplement Insurance claims properly is a lot different than dealing with a Roofer out to do a repair.

    That info on how to properly cover damaged or leaking areas is super helpful. A whole video showing 2 or 3 different covering methods, with all the right steps and right materials and/or tools needed, would be rad. Actually showing how its done goes a long ways, if you could set-up a spot to do a few demonstrations somehow

    So replace a while section of roof is the better fix vs a tube of roofing caulk black and a new pack of shingles? Glad I can do my own roofing so I don't have to rely on a roofer upselling me needlessly on a quarter roof replacement to fix 3 damaged shingles and patching 30 nail holes. You act like putting some roofing caulk in the mail holes would be visible from the moon, while in reality you would never ever be able to see it from the ground right in front of the house. Replacing the whole section of roof for that damage is just crazy overkill.

    • @hammeltron

      @@j.vosier6786 The concept of roofing is incredibly simple. It's just the awkwardness of being on a roof that is tough. Watching a couple UA-cam videos is plenty to tackle a simple roof. Gets more complex if you have valleys and a lot of complexity to your roof, but it's not anything hard. It's just a lot of work in an environment that can be scary being high off the ground on a tilted surface.

      I've been roofing 17 years right through every winter. Very rarely do we have a problem. Last year though I learned my lesson on a 100 square barn out in the country. Had a very windy Thanksgiving day last year. It blew out a little bit, the manufacturer said they would not cover the warranty because it was a cold weather install and we did not follow their directions. Which by their directions they do not State a temperature or date. They want you to put three dabs of sealer under every single. Never in my life have I heard of anyone doing that. It gives them an out if they want to. I personally would not put a new roof on my house in the winter, I'm not going to advise a customer to. So yes it can be done I just personally don't want to.

      Should it be on the homeowners insurance being that there was such minor storm damage or the idiot that tarped it causing quite a bit of damage? • @bullfrog1807
      @bullfrog1807 3 роки тому

      I have seen insurance adjusters come out and say the repair was so minor it could have been repaired, but the contractor that did the damage did unnecessary damage. They denied a claim to replace the roof because of it, only covering the repair. It was then on the homeowner to fight the company that covered it.

      Depends on the local laws. If I was the contractor I would call the insurance and have then send a engineer. If any rafters are damaged the insurance need to replace them. I would get the insurance to cover that whole roof some decking and possibly more depending on the damage

  • @roofer850channel4

    Your proposal is right. Reroof the entire slope. "flat bar out" is not a good term. Look at what the manufacturers say about breaking sealants. The guy did you a favor. Do you want to do cheap work, or real work? Reroof the whole slope, if not the entire roof. Probably won't match anyways.

  • @FlourishingLove
    @FlourishingLove 2 роки тому

    We paid a roofer for a tear off/re-roof, and after they did the tear off, and put the black paper over the decking, we had water intrusion. So, they came and tarped in the roof, a couple of months ago. They have hundreds of nails throughout the entire roof, holding down the tarp. Is this a problem that the nails are through the black paper and decking? Does that ruin the wood and cause more problems? Or will the shingles they put on later protect those 100's of holes? Thank you!

Helpful hints are great but getting injured while doing so can be costly. I've been designing and building for over 30 years an have always took safety into consideration. Don't forget your followers are going up on their roof without safety in mind and they can seriously hurt themselves. Keep in mid that accidents that happen can come back onto you and your videos.

    Why don't the homeowner get there and do it?you can save a lot of money that's what I do

    Seems kinda arrogant to say you not going to try and save your customer money by ripping off an entire section???? Let them live with the fact they are going to have a weird patchy looking roof but it can be easily fixed in half a day by just removing the affected shingles?? If they really don't have a lot of money simply using a modified bitumen product in the nail holes would also be and easy fix for the abortion of a tarp job. I just feel its kinda disingenuous to recommend a redo of the entire section for what could be a relatively cheap fix.

    Good way to piss off your insurance adjuster lol. Surprised the contractor didn’t nail tarp all the way over the ridge and cap nail down the center of the tarp for good measure. Just some jackass trying to get a full roof replacement for what looks like maybe a 5 shingle repair initially.

      Yes they definitely did a number on it. I heard they charged an outlandish amount to do that right there as well.

    Bro, do better. Help the people with the storm damage claim. Help them facilitate it with their insurance carrier. You’re talking a lot of crap for someone who’s not doing the right thing by the homeowner here...

    Try doing a video just doing the work, you love to criticize previous work in every single one of your videos . I see you do good work so why do you feel the need to always blame someone else.

  • @Anthony-pi6pf
    @Anthony-pi6pf Рік тому

    This video is completely irrelevant. If it’s from storm damage an insurance claim needs to be filed and homeowner needs to fight/litigate for repairs and or new roof if shingles can’t be matched.
