Hi Gyle, I used a size 3mm calotte (I have updated the description for future reference). I didn't use a metal crimp bead, since I was using thread instead of wire. I will be creating a video on beading wire and crimping. The seed bead size I used to tie the knot was around an 11/0 / 15/0 size. As long as your seed bead size is larger than the calotte hole so it doesn't slide through, but also small enough so that that calotte closes all the way. And the thread I have used is by SoNo (a cheaper jewelry making thread on the market - cheaper than the popular WildFire and Fireline). To be honest, any thread/string should be fine.
