  • Looking to use the Netgear Nigthhawk M1 MR1100 with your home router? In this video I show how to use the Netgear Nigthhawk MR1100 with a router. This method will allow you to connect your hotspot to a router. Meaning it can replace your current ISP such as Comcast Xfinity, AT&T, Charter, Spectrum, Time Warner, and Cox. This is how you truly become a cord cutter.
    Nighthawk MR1100 Admin URL: 192.168.1.1
    M1 MR1100 Product Link: geni.us/NetgearHotspot
Follow the steps below to use the Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 With a Router:
    1. Go to 192.168.1.1 and log in as the administrator.
    2. Navigate to Settings - Setup - Mobile Router Setup
    3. Once you are in Mobile Router Setup, make the following configuration changes
    A. Turn on IP Passthrough
    B. Turn off DHCP
    C. Turn off Ethernet Standby
    4. Once you have configured those settings, plug the Ethernet cable from your router into the Nighthawk MR1100 and then reboot the MR1100.

VERY much appreciate you taking the time to post this video and for those who noted the TP-Link Archer C7 v2 as being the linchpin in the whole process. I've had an M1 for nearly a year and spent A LOT of time trying to get the thing connected via Ethernet to a router but nothing worked. Read countless posts of the same issue and never had success. Until now! I decided to take a chance and buy a TP-Link on E-Bay (got it for $50!). Last night I tried and presto, it worked perfectly. I'm totally amazed and very thankful as now I can try to build out my home network. Thanks again!!!

That worked great the second time I did it... Got nothing through the router the first time so I had to connect the M1 device to my computer through the usb port to change the settings back. Then I changed the router address to 192.168.0.1 and did it again. That did the trick. I do get quite a bit faster speeds now too. Thank you for the concise and clear video on this.

This video is spot on as I did this before when I had AT&T service with a provider from E-bay. But that got cancelled as AT&T starting cracking down on misuse of accounts. So I got a plan with AT&T (100mb/month). Well, this will no longer work for me. As soon as I switch off WiFi and reboot the M1, I lose all connectivity to AT&T service and get the read flashing light. If I pin reset, back comes the blue flashing light and service is restored. I've tried four times and the results are the same. The last time I left DHCP enabled (previously I disabled as shown in the video), but no go. Red-flashing light every time.

I had the problem others have had here after following the directions. I then reset the MR1100 and started over. This time, I changed the router address FIRST. (My router is a NETGEAR RAX40.) It took about 5 minutes to reboot, so you have to be patient. I then made the changes to the MR1100, hooked up the router and everything worked perfectly.

These steps do work and I am glad it worked for the presenter, but the reality is that the Netgear Night M1 has problems with IP Passthrough. It isn't compatible with many devices, such as by Linksys/Cisco EA4500.
There are a lot of complaints on the Netgear boards about the feature not working reliably. Yes, my unit is on the latest revision.

Zach Kennedy Some guy online said this is completely the wrong way to go about it. Thanks this is really helpful. I have used these settings on my Nighthawk M2 M2100 with some TP Link Deco gear and it worked well for quite a while. However after a firmware update on the Deco router I couldn’t access the internet anymore (although I could when my laptop connects directly to the M2). The TP Link support team suggested I enable DHCP & disable IP PASSTHROUGH and it now works (not that I understand what has changed in their firmware).

For everyone who can't seem to get this to work as shown on the video. I had the same problem. What I found is that It is not your router causing the problem it is that the MR1100 does not have a valid IP from the cell provider.
What I did was press the reset on the back of the MR100 for 15 seconds and let it reboot. It will not remove your sim card data or registration but it will reset the MR1100 to factory defaults. You can then follow the instructions again and this time you will see a valid IP shown on the information page.

After countless resets I gave it a try with just changing the home routers IP address to 192.168.0.1, your final step or suggestion and plugged it into the WAN Port and the nighthawk. Presto. Thank you for this video because it clarified what I thought might need to be changed on the MR1100. However I am trying to use it as the internet connection for a Synology RT2600AC using an ethernet cable in the WAN port on the Synology and the ethernet port on the MR1100 but the router just doesn't recognise it. If I look at the settings on the router I find I have a 3g/4g tab and this suggests that I can use this to connect a mobile 4g dongle to the router. However this appears to require me to connect the dongle via the usb port. Can I get a usb to usb cable and try it this way?

I have a second MR1100 Firm Ware version NTG9X50C_10.20.05.02 that I was testing today. Got a card and AT&T data. Plugged it into a Linksys EA9300 and it worked fine if you don't mind double NAT. Games, webcams and thing that need to contact a public IP outside the subnet hate double NAT. The solution is to put the ES9300 in bridge (some vendors call it Pass through) mode. One problem with this solution is a limit of 20 connections on the AT&T MR1100 and the video say you get faster internet if you connect either cable to the MR1100. I put the MR1100 in IP Pass through and I could connect the MR1100 with my laptop via either net cable and logged in the MR1100 but the blue light never can on, it would not connect to the internet. I plugged it into the Linksys EA9300, connect lights came on but no internet connection. Took it out of IP Pass Through and blue light came on after auto restart. It said my firmware was up to date. Any thoughts.

The ethernet port on my laptop is working (used another ethernet device). Any thoughts on how to get the ethernet working.

I am running this exact setup, but I keep loosing internet connectivity randomly during the week. MR1100 isn’t resetting its powering down, all symbols still active. Just get a network error or no internet error when running through the router. My IPs are both different. I have WAN set to auto. Should I make that static and manually add the default gateway? Help please!

I have successfully mine up with my router. Thank you for the helpful video.
Now my question is if I want to use the MR1100 on a trip as a hotspot, what settings must be changed back?

@@boarderfalife doesn’t work that way because you can access the attwifimanager without the M1 on wifi.

Is this still current as of 7/22 and do you have problems with it overheating when plugged into a router? I only put a battery in when I need to charge one or go mobile. But mine always over heats. Sometimes without having router. Tried a new m6 pro and was not happy ash’s att couldn’t figure out settings. Thought about getting m1 mr1100 but found this video.

I realize this is an older video but I’m new to the att mifi. I’ve followed your instructions but my router, netgear nighthawk ac 2600, doesn’t recognize the internet input. I’ve attempted to change ip address but with the gateway, subnet, and dns I’m over my head. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for this video. I know next to nothing, or enough to make me dangerous! LOL
I want to use the Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 as a modem and boost it's signal with my Linksys Tri-Band WiFi Router so I can get a stronger signal all over my house and out back. Is this possible?
We're using the Nighthawk to receive internet as a hotspot with AT&T.
It's just that the Nighthawk range is less than I could get with the Linksys when we had internet from a cable provider.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Wondering if there's a way to do the opposite....wirelessly connect the MR1100 to a main hotspot/router/modem and either repeat the main or broadcast a new network through the MR1100. Is this possible and, if so, how?

I followed the instructions you provided to set up my MR1100 to use as a modem, when applied the mr1100 immediately went off line and not connected to the internet. I reset it to factory default and it came back on line. several experments provided the blue flashing light indicating it was online however could not access my Linksys EA6900 AC1900. No matter what I do I can not get the MR1100 to connect with my Linksys router and access the interned with any device wired or wireless. How do I get it o work> Linksys was unable to help..however the support tech seemed to be new and unfamiliar with this router. Can you help?

So I followed the instructions and everything as said, but my wireless router doesn't connect to the internet via WAN port. I have to connect it LAN 1 port get the internet working over it. But the speeds sucks around 11mbps. Wifi speeds through NightHawk M1 is around 85mbps. Any idea why it won't connect to the internet Via the WAN port?? One more thing, I can connect to the internet directly through the Ethernet port on my laptop at full speed.

Well, I was so excited and followed the video (except the option at the end, wasn't sure how to do this) I am currently using the M1 with the three recommended changes and I have the lan cable plugged straight into my laptop. Yet when I plug the Lan cable into my Nighthawk 6700 wireless router, it goes through the flashing lights and all are white but no internet signal being transmitted. I've rebooted both the M1 and Nighthawk 6700. On my firestick it says Connected to Wifi, Signal Very good, Channel 153 very good ... Then in big red it says Not connected to the internet. Please help. I have 5 days till I cut off my 70 dollar charter cable.

After a bit of frustration...i followed the instructions and allowed more time for the M1 to APPLY settings . Then I reset both the modem/ hotspot and the router. It's working fine, just wish speeds were better 8 - 19 download

I am using a Buffalo (DD-WRT) as my home router/wifi. I have tried these settings but cannot get the internet when the Nighthawk is connected to the Buffalo WAN port. It only works when connected to one of the four LAN ports. I have security cameras and cannot resolve port forwarding, which I suspect is due to the internet signal coming as a LAN device rather than a WAN device. Can you suggest what might be wrong with my Buffalo setup? I have it configured to assign static IPs to computers & cameras based on MAC address.

When I follow the steps provided and connect to my Netgear AC1750 router's wifi I am getting "No Internet Connection". But I run the ethernet cable from the MR1100 directly to my PC I am getting internet without issues. Any thoughts on why the wifi through my router is not working?
