- In this episode I am riding 700 kilometers in one day to reach North Cape. I am rushing because winter is coming and at 71 degrees northern latitude it is getting cold! It's a stunning ride with fantastic scenery and lots of reindeer along the way. Was it worth coming up all the way here? DEFINITELY!

It's astonishing that one person alone can make a travel documentary that is about a million times better than anything ever produced by a large television team!

It is very true. It is really amazing this young lady is producing such fantastic documentaries from all remote corners of the world with a drone and hand held camera whereas ten or more crew and a director accompany other TV programmes produced at great expense.

Never realized the Arctic Circle latitude actually changed nor how it was determined - an excellent lesson!
the Arctic Circle is the point beyond which the sun does not set for at least one day per year during summer months - conversely it is the point beyond which the sun does not rise for at least one day per year during winter months. And all due to the fact that Earth axis is tilted about 23 degrees off the vertical.
Noraly has a reputation and that is being a good educator. 🤗
Does this contribute to global warming?
It seems if it causes ice ages, it must have the opposite effect as well.

AS we know - when Earth is at one side of its yearly orbit - then northern hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun and thus gets LESS DIRECT SUNLIGHT - which produces winter!
At the opposite side of our yearly orbit - northern hemisphere is tilted much more TOWARDS THE SUN and thus gets MORE direct sunlight and we enjoy summer at that time!
It is quite elementary and badly undermines LIE-beral climate hysteria propaganda - which is why they do not speak of it!
@@rsmith1946 Of course it does. As the Arctic Circle moves north at a rate of between 14 and 15 metres per year, it stands to reason that the ice will move north at a similar rate. In around 10,000 years earth will be at its hottest and in around 61,000 years earth will experience another ice age.
To me being a Geographer I particularly enjoyed this episode. Your sense of adventure and education is intoxicating. You do it all with kindness and class, a great representative of the natural world.

Edit* Since you showed interest in the strange cloud formations @14:30, thought I might share with you what you were mostly seeing. The main cloud cover was predominantly low lying stratos, with a smattering of nimbostratus here and there (the dark grey sections). You can tell stratos from the way the sun only is kind of just dimly visible behind it. (Cumulus will mostly block the sun, with some radiant light lighting up the edges of the cumulus, whereas with other high lying clouds like cirrostratos, the sun will have a halo around it). @14:40, in the top RH corner of screen, you can see a stack of Lenticular clouds. These are very cool, and in fact, when i was climbing in NZ i would often see these. Incidentally, these lenticular formations are also called "hogs back" clouds, and when you're in the mountains, these type of formations usually indicate weather is about to close in.
Just thought I would share with you my passion for meteorology, since you were so open and sweet to share your passion for geology/planetary science with us. Also, as a side note Noraly, if you ever felt compelled to do a little video of you talking about your favourite things in geology, and your past experiences in the field, I for one, would be very interested in listening to/watching that 😊💯
One of my closest friends, a member of my motorcycle riding group with whom I have ridden over 150,000 miles in 17 yrs , was killed on a sharp New Mexico curve September 25. There is family pressure on some of us to quit riding. This video, and others like it, confirm why I won’t quit until I am so old (currently 78) I can’t get a leg over my bike or can’t remember how to start it. Thank you Noraly.

I damn near died on a dirt bike, in intensive care unit for 5 days, off work for 2 months, had to go through rehab for 6 months. I was back on my bike as soon as I could sit on my bike, that was 2 weeks after I was out of the hospital. Ride on...😎✊🏼👊🏼✊🏼👊🏼✊🏼👊🏼
I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. At age 76 I understand your feeling about riding. It is my intention to ride as long as I can. I lived in Las Vegas, NM from age 3 thru 11 and still feel a very strong connection to the land of enchantment.
Sorry to hear about your friend. It can be a sad concequense of riding motorcycles but when we have the bug in us we just can’t stop riding our bikes. We think of our lost friends and continue riding in their memory.

The weird clouds you saw were made by a moist ground layer of air that was forced over the hills there. Around the highest bits of the air mass' travel, some condensation occurred. Depending on the strength of the wind, that might even have been slight cases of Lenticularis clouds. Yes, glider flying nerd here.

Wow- I only recently started watching your videos but as a motorcycle enthusiast from Northern Ontario in Canada, I have great respect for your ability to stay focused and stay warm at the latitude you are riding. Your ability to document the ride as a one person show and keep it interesting is incredible, it is too bad you could not ride through Finland though. Safe journey and thank you for sharing it with us!

Thanks for introducing your UA-cam audience to Milankovich cycles. It’s important that people understand that the Earth’s climate is modulated by well defined astronomical driving forces. Human’s impacts on climate through the burning of fossil fuels is separate from those forces but overlaid on top of them in a way that we are just starting to understand. Whenever you stop travelling the world, there’s a place for you to educate young people about the true nature of the global environment and their role in preserving all of the wondrous places that exist on our planet!
My God how stunning roads we have here in Norway! I have not been further north than Tromsø, and I will love to drive the whole way from the south where I live.

We all know you are a Geologist and your talk about Milankovitch Cycles, but doing that after a 700 km 9 hour ride with a caramelized cheese for lunch is out of the world!!! Once did a 600 Km trip on a 100 cc bike in the 80"s with sight seeing, while driving in the last 80 Km stretch , dozed off and almost crashed. Had to sleep on the road for half an hour to ride again. Your stamina is amazing, and this is the second day you are driving 700 Km !!! Phew......

That 500cc Honda is perfectly sized for Noraly's stature and European travels. It handles highways with aplomb and doesn't vibrate like her Royal Enfield with a single cylinder. That leads to less exhaustion after a long day's ride. The Himalayan bikes do travel well on rough/broken/gravel and trail roads; that is what it is designed to excel covering.

Erm Himalayans do not vibrate , they have a balance shaft and are smoother than some balanced twins .
Enough power for motorways, good for tarmac and handles off-road, long fuel range and not heavy to manage. Good choice.

Oh my god, nothing surprise me no longer, i think you are from another planet or so. You´re really like to drive. I ´m driving 10 minutes in Umeå to my work and starts to freeze in minutes. You are driving for hours in +5 degrees in a summer outfit and still keep smiling....what can i say...impressed... and take care on the roads...
I admire her courage but just because she doesn't put up videos of her getting frustrated doesn't mean she doesn't get frustrated. Remember that though it's youtube, it's still show business. She herself admitted in a past video that she keeps the channel positive even if it means not showing the entire story.
So glad that you made the decition to go to Nardkapp while in Norway. It is without doubt a strech of road that is perfect for riding a motorcycle (provided weather is ok) and I am so glad you got to share this experience with us all.

I agree. But teachers have to teach according to their State Board of Education. And those people who are on those Boards are usually failures as teachers.
Indeed. I had sh*t teachers who were so uninspiring and/or useless that I can't even remember most of them, apart from my 1st school English teacher who made English class a joy to attend.
Noraly, this video explained something my science teacher told us in the 60's, yes I'm old, about getting warmer in the North in later years which it has here in the U.S. ! You are very informative in your travels so I learn a lot about places I'll never see ! Ride safe !

A 900 meter shift in the Arctic Circle since the 60s doesn't explain global warming/climate change. Moving 900 meters south doesn't put you in a warmer climate. This natural shift is much longer term.
It is beyond belief and we put it down to pure deranged minds who will ever give a thumps down to Noraly, when she risks so much and works so hard to produce this great travel documentaries of such high quality with a hand held camera and a drone. If it is one of the TV or travel documentary it would be presented by a well known presenter of some sort, accompanied by a crew of more than ten including a director at a great cost. Those people travel in great comfort unlike Dear Noraly riding day in and day out at such high
speeds( not a very wise thing to do in unknown roads), often camping in atrocious conditions and eating so little.
You tube must remove the thumps down sign altogether for Noraly's travels.
Allow more time for your travels Dear Noraly and ride safe.

Noraly is indeed an inspired scientist and thanks to her inspiration and the UA-cam system she is also a rising star. There is no need for UA-cam to remove the downward thumbs because, in a way, math does this for us by providing the proportions required for understanding. Only one out of every 2611 viewers has given a thumbs down. It is a fact which, being true, is a part of reality, no matter how much the rest of us love Noraly, her fine mind and her magnificent productions. Statistically, it is likely that no two thumbs down were given for the same reason. I appreciate your feelings on the matter, though. They also are true and a part of reality.

Wow, wow, wow!! I was excited by your excitement at reaching North Cape. Then you explained how the Arctic Circle is defined. I was riveted by your entire lecture! I know about the Earth's "wobble", but I did not know how the Arctic Circle is defined, thereby causing it to move with that wobble. I was just aware of how the wobble defines the night sky. Nor did I know we are about in the middle of a cycle. Thank you for that! And, yes, the immense beauty of the mountains and fjords carved by the last ice age! Oh, and what a gorgeous little cabin at the end of the day.

This was a nostalgic video for me, reminding me of staying with my wife’s family in a small Norwegian farming town within the Arctic Circle,…The land of midnight sun, they called it,…truly a unique experience to see the farmers and townspeople and animals(!) working 24/7, through nights as bright as day,…in order to sleep you pulled down black out curtains,..Thanks for reminding me of that special part of the world,….

Don't spoil it for me! I'm trying to catch up by binge watching from the beginning. I started watching Noraly when she was trying to get out of South America. Now I've gone back to the beginning in India and I'm at episode 56, Iran. She takes me places I've never been and will probably never go.

Milankovitch cycles! I know of the cycles, the tilt of the Earth, the thousands of years to complete a cycle, but it never occurred to me that the Arctic Circle changes because f it. Maybe if I could live over 40, 000 years I could see it in my lifetime.🤣 But seriously, thank you for these fascinating pieces of information!

I am binge watching episodes to get caught up. This one is extra special as my great grandparents from my Mother's side were from Norway, my Great Grandfather was a fisherman and I have a black & white photo of him by a boat from so long ago. Super special, episode. I was so happy when you were able to make it through Norway.

I've had many years of similar solo trips in the American southwest and in California aboard a Goldwing motorcycle. I cherish those wonderful sights and experiences as you do yours. They are God's gift to us I believe. The scenes in Norway are spectacular and so rich with color. Thank you for sharing them with us in such a lovely way.

Well done on getting to North Cape. A friend and i toured Norway on bikes 4 years ago and when we got there looked at doing the run all the way to the top and back but we had limited time to get back to the UK so decided to explore more of the country rather than tick the box .....i am still conflicted about it and would love to go back and do it again ... i love your use of hyttes at campsites, we camped a lot when we were there but when we got soaked then the hyttes were a godsend to dry out and recharge cameras and laptops :) ......aside from the bike i studied geography at school and almost went to university on the subject so i find your videos brilliant for a whole other purpose and marvel at the enjoyment you find in nature and rocks
And to think that all of this time, I thought that Milancovitch Cycles was a business in Moscow.

The Inuit elders in Northeest territories in Canada. Have been saying for at least 10 years that the sun is rising and settling on different parts of the horizon.
For context. It is basically all rocks and water. It is called the Canadian Shield. Which covers roughly 50% of Canada.
When fly from the south to Northwest territories. It is amazing to see a wall of trees just stop. And then nothing but rock, water, ice and snow.
At last I reached you, Noraly. Two weeks ago I watched your pandemia video at Perú. Now I'm up to date. Beautiful.
Allow me to give you some tips:
1. Always use your turn indicators, even if you are alone on the road.
2. Don't ride between moving cars. If you have to ride between still cars, do it slowly and carefuly.
3. Don't pass too much close to cars. They could open a door. The rest of the world don't use much the called "dutch maneuver", that consist on watch back carefuly before open the door.

@Noraly First, I'm not sure everyone understands how talented you are when it comes to "producing your videos". Multiple camera angles and especially when you hand hold (and move) the camera on the stick. Next, the editing and music are always spot on awesome. (love the reverse motion pan at 13:16). THEN on top of that I got to learn things I didn't know about the Arctic Circle. I knew the earth's tilt changes but your detailed description of how and why the Arctic Circle moves blew me away (especially when 2050 isn't even a blink when it comes to cosmic time). *Stunningly beautiful ride* 😍

Back in the mid 70's I came home on leave (from the Merchant Navy) to Edinburgh in Scotland and a friend asked if I wanted to go to the Nordkapp (the sun would not set). Two days later a ferry to Bergen then we drove north to Nardkapp. Back down south to Narvik, then crossed the border into Sweden and through Kiruna and all the way south to Stockholm; then further south crossed back into Norway and visited Oslo; before finally heading back to Bergen for the ferry to Scotland. Your trip brought back the memories. Aaaaaah the things we did when we were young lol.
For some reason I found your channel and I'm quite glad I did, I'm Nicaraguan born but living in Düsseldorf, Germany, I was planning a trip to the north cape this year, let's see if almighty Covid allows it

Congratulations Noraly! Did you know that Nordkapp is approx 1 degrees further north than Prudhoe Bay in Alaska? So even if you ride to Prudhoe Bay next year you will never get as far north as Nordkapp....😎
Nordkapp actually has midnight sun from approx May 12th to July 31th, so its more than 2,5 months with daylight 24/7 up there.

If you ever visited Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula or parts of Labrador, you'll find that it similar to Northern Norway.
When driving along "The Viking Trail", a highway spanning from Deer Lake to St. Anthony, or even the Trans Labrador Highway, you'll find that the landscape along its Atlantic and Labrador Sea coasts are similar to Northern Scandinavia.
You'll even see an occasional Moose or Caribou (North American term for Reindeer) crossing the highway.

We love your enthusiasm, it makes us feel like we're actually with you. Not quite the same as being as far north as you, but we travelled from the south west of England to John'o'Groats Scotland and felt exilerated to be at the top of the UK. What brilliant scenery! We're really enjoying Scandinavia

5:50 it is salmon. It is a huge industry in Norway for mostly export. 2019 eksported 1.1 million tons or 6,6 billion EUR.
And if you think that place is spectacular you have a lot of wow's ahead of you, especially if you follow Norway on the west coast :)

I did 1200 kms a day several times already, and still enough energy to pitch a tent, make a fire and cook some food before bed time. I do 700kms almost every Saturday, and same on Sunday

Everytime you move anywhere, it's inspiring. I've always wanted to see Sweden and Norway. This has been my favorite series.
Living here, in Minnesota, nearly everyone claims some sort of Scandinavian ancestry, and expresses an interest in seeing "the old world." This gives me a nice introduction for such a trip. I now know where I want to visit. Cheers.
Thumbs UP!! I've been hoping you'd speak of the Milankovitch Cycles in your northern travels! And a great explanation of obliquity, too! Noraly you deserve a PhD in geology just for presenting the science to so many who might otherwise never have an interest. Discussions from pressure points leading to metal mineralization in a mine in Bolivia, to obliquity at North Cape. Hope when your adventure resumes in Peru, you can ride the Dempster Highway in the Yukon and NW Territories Canada to the Arctic Sea. Your kind of rode and adventure road. Huge thumbs up!!!

It's normal to have a different perspective of distance when you are in the North. Travelling 200 k one way for a hockey match is quite normal.
@@kobrapelle I spent spring 2004 in Jokkmokk. That was a long way from home. But I had my brother close - only 300 km away. I borrowed his car, and one day I went to Kvikkjokk. I had planned to have lunch in Kvikkjokk, but it was closed, so I went back to Jokkmokk. That was a 2 x 120 km tour.

@@ChristianoDebarry it's a thing of perspective, if you easily can travel very long on empty roads, even 2 000 k feels okay. It is 900 k from Luleå to Stockholm. I have done it in one night.

On a more serious note, I truly appreciate the science lesson related to the Arctic Circle, and its shift due to the Earth's tilt cycle.
I think Norway is the most beautiful place on the planet, and seeing your vlog only confirms my thinking!!
