- Looking for a step by step tutorial on adding custom line work to make your action figures more comic book accurate?
In this episode of Marvel ToyToks, we go over how to get your Retro Shocker & Zombie Hunter Spiderman looking like their comic book versions.
You'll need:
- Micron pens : black Figma Micron 005 for Spiderman (www.michaels.c...) and brown Figma Micron 01 for Shocke (www.michaels.c...)
- Mr. Hobby topcoat (Flat - www.mr-hobby.c...)
- Hot water (from your tap is fine) and a deep bowl to loosen up your figure

I have the same pen and it’s way harder than it looks. The lines are hard to make because some of the indentations are not deep so the marking goes off line.
Agreed. You need a steady hand and a lot of patience. But it’s cathartic to do after a long day at work 🥹😊
Great job! I'll be looking for one of those pens next time I'm at Hobby Lobby.
Thanks Sam! Appreciate the feedback
I would suggest using a Gundam panel liner pen for this. If you make a mistake you can rub it right off with a standard white pencil eraser so long as you're quick. I used one to bring out all the cracks in the retro Thing figure and it turned out great! Gundam markers are essentially designed with this kind of thing in mind.
Good call!
I was going to recommend Gundam brand as well. I started out panel lining with hobby store art pens, and it's just not the same. They are not as permanent on plastic, where as Gundam pens are more like paint. They go on easier, and stay on.
I love the way the Spiderman came out. Shocker I guess I would have to see it later.
Great look for both especially the shocker...those pens are at hobby lobby...im definitely going to get some and that spray
Is the mr hobby spray can there to at hobby lobby?
Not for sure just assuming so
Nice video but I have to say, your background music is a bit too loud. It was hard to hear your voice at times.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll keep that in mind for future videos
Water can actually mess with the plastic on a molecular structure, I’d recommend using a blow dryer as its much faster & you have more control with it.
Great recommendation
Yeah so can a blow dryer if you use it too long lol... ive done my share of accidental melting
@@RadtechCustoms175 I was thinking about taking apart the Thor ravager marvel legends and kit bashing it with the costumed Thor so I might use this technique for that
yeah you can also use a spray (forget what its called) that loosens joints
@@fancyotter123 really? Is that like WD40 or something else?
I'm getting that wave Off lay-by next week and I think I'll have too do it and also with the Zombie hunter cheers for that
Happy to help! Happy customizing
HAAA!!!!!! LMAO!!!! At Spiderman in the background spinning like he's Whirlwind, did not see that coming at all! THXZZZ for the video and the tips, I've been wanting to do this but was too afraid to mess up my figures. Maybe that was just Quick Silver just goofing off in your video, LOL.
This comment brings me so much joy. I’m so glad this video gives you both a good laugh and the courage to start. You can never mess up when you try. You only learn and get better next time :-)
Just great, thanks for sharing !
Thanks for the help man!
Most of my figures have no issue moving around outta the box so I’ve only had to heat one up in hot water once. What I did though was put it in a zip lock bag so that it would be dry once I took it out. Just a small suggestion, nice vid!
That’s smart! I’ll use that tip next time
Looks great!!
Hello sir, good tutorial. Imo if someone takes their own personal time to share what they know, you’re okay in my book! I will have to try that top coat.
Suggestion: when warning figs, drop a couple drops of liquid dawn in there, it will help get that residue off the figs. Your top coat should lay down better and with usually 1 pass. Also whenever I do any customizing that could possibly smear, I will seal the fig.
That’s a great idea! I didn’t even think about using dawn when warming figs up. Great suggestion.
What does the 2 drops of dawn do for it what's it washing out?
@@georgelopez9488 not 100% sure what it removes but it probably makes the top coat stick better and more evenly. Haven’t tried it yet but will try a comparison
What is liquid dawn?
@@gmon78 dish soap, its the best for removing grease. They actually use it when cleaning birds from oil spills
Cool bro!Thx for telling!
Nice job! I’m gonna try this.
Let me know how it turns out!
So cool
Why did Andrews eyes look like they moved
Spiderman in background helicopter helicopter
Hahaha 🤣 I’m gonna have to make a TikTok for this now
I would use Mr Super Clear and a Gundam marker instead.
Good advice
Nice video sir.
Thanks, David! Appreciate the props 👍🏼
@@marveltoytok you're welcome. I have a channel on here and IG where I show off customs I've done.
@@r.davidhill7639 cool- just subscribed to your channel. Cheers bud
@@marveltoytok thank you.
Dam shocker looks great like that, how often do you need to touch up? And is it durable?
It’s a one time job and once you spray it with a matte finish, it locks in the coat so you don’t have to do it anymore.
@@marveltoytok thanks man
Great job. I like the micron brother than the Gundam markets
Thanks! Agreed- the Gundam markers are too dark and too thick IMO. Micron pens are cleaner
@Steve Vento yep- in the video I use two different colors of micron pens. I actually reviewed 3 different types- regular black, taupe, and brown. I ended up using the taupe color for shocker since the brown was too dark
@Steve Vento yes. I buy the 2 or 3 packs all the time. Usually has a brown black and red. The brown one is kind of a light/dark chocolate color would be excellent for shocker
Thank you
You got it! It was fun to make. What do you want to see next?
gonna make my own custom shocker figure using a john walker figure
Let me know how it turns out
Are you from the Philippines?
🇵🇭🇺🇸
Doesn't a black wash works too?
I would use a wash for something like The Thing marvel legends. For this, I wanted more precise line work
Yeah, it's possible to do with a wash, but it's *way* easier, and *way* less messy with panel lining pens.
what happend if you mess up
I cover that in the video. You can just rub it off before it dries
@@marveltoytok ohh ok wait is it good on other action figures like the integrated suit
@@jrjrnr2021 yep! The same process works GREAT on the integrated suit
@@marveltoytok ok cause ima do it on the integrated suit
15:50 what idiot wouldn’t do this?
You’d be surprised - some people don’t like modifying their figures
