  • I'm thrilled to be talking with Matt Beaudreau today. And I think you'll love joining in our conversation about doing crazy things that society doesn't always agree with.
    Matt, a well-known speaker and co-creator of Apogee Strong talks about how we all consistently see patterns in society over and over and naively thinking that, "okay, I'll take the next step, and that's where I will gain some element of control to be able to actually impact the situation."
    Matt breaks down how this thought process is all wrong, how he stepped out of that rut, and how we can too.
    This episode is brought to you by our beef - Genuine Beef Co.

    We public schooled until Covid- once we tried it, it was like I could suddenly see the system clearly. I can’t imagine sending them back now that they’re out, it seems so foreign to me now.

    Comparing the current school model to prison is terrifyingly accurate. When we started homeschooling we were also looking into homesteading and had discovered Joel Salatin. My husband had the realization at the time that public school bore an unfortunate resemblance to feed lot farming.

    This was SO AMAZING!!! This is the thing that has been in my soul and it’s been revealed today. I am 55 and have raised my family but I am determined to pass on a legacy to my grandchildren and my children . Thank you so much , this speaks to my heart .

    So wonderful hearing this school and life are different games. I had a cousin that this fits so well. He had 3 college degrees but absolutely no common sense. This got him into big legal troubles.

    This was great, and I don't even have children to homeschool, but I did go to public school and university in the US. It's such a relief to find others who can see what's actually going on. I'm 40 now, but I knew something was off about "the news" in my 20s, so I made the decision to stop paying attention to it, even though my friends tried to pressure me into watching/listening to it, so I'd be "informed." Unfortunately, all those friends now fully believe the narrative, and they're all very intelligent people. It's kind of mind blowing. I'm now in a completely different state, far away from friends and family, looking for a homestead to buy. It's a life that I never imagined for myself, but I'm so grateful to be moving toward. Thanks for all your content, Jill! It's nice to feel like I'm part of a community of people, even if it's just online.

    Jill, thank you for introducing me to Matt. Like all your guests I found great value in his voice. My wife and I are committed to "unschooling" our children and are glad to know of Matt's resources. God bless.

    Love this interview ! Thanks! I have found that once I stepped away from one system , I realized how many other systems I needed to step away from in order to truly feel free ! I also realized , that even though my entire life I have shouted patriotism and freedom , I never truly knew what it was to live free until I we broke away from church systems, medical systems, food systems and education systems. Americans have all the freedoms they could ever hope for yet are scared to death to take hold of those freedoms because it means letting go of systems

    We have a young one who is 12 and has been in public school all of her school life up to this point. We are starting a regenerative farm for our business and are slowly building our homestead as we just finished a move from one side of the state to the other. We were both raised in the public school system and my partner is a former Marine, but both of us recognized the faults of the system a long time ago.
    With her, we talk a lot about things happening in society. We ask her how much she knows about what's going on, what she thinks about all of it, how she feels, and what she thinks some possible solutions could be. We're also careful to teach her REAL history, which we don't feel is taught at all these days in public schools, especially with politicians forcing certain curriculum and banning other topics. We encourage her to ask questions and puzzle things out. We let her take her time rather than rushing her through different topics. If she finds a different way to achieve something, all we ask is that she write down her process so we can all discuss how she came up with her solution. We're happy to answer questions about the house bills, why and how we do certain things within the business, why we shop the way we do etc. We encourage her to help us assemble and build things, cook, work with the animals, and work in the garden. We don't just make her whole life about her grades in school. We try not to create fear and anxiety around what'll happen if she gets "bad" grades.
    Honestly, if she says she doesn't want to go to college and instead wants to start a business or just farm, we're ok with that. It's more important to us that she learn how to love herself and trust her intuition, that she understands where she came from and how her history and ancestors give her unique strengths and superpowers, that she learns how to take care of herself, heal herself, feed herself, and protect herself, and that she at least understands how to work well with others even when she has a difference of opinion from her. We want her to understand that her original self with all her knowledge, strengths, and skills needs to still be standing no matter who comes into and goes out of her life. And we want her to understand that following *can* lead her into danger if she's not careful, so it can be safer for her to lead and use her critical thinking skills to navigate through something rather than just blindly taking advice or following someone else.
    Those things aren't taught in schools, but I kind of feel like those were ALWAYS things that the family should have been teaching rather than depending on another entity to teach them.

    Loved this one. ❤️ I was homeschooled, then public schooled. It really is just a game. I homeschool now. I can't imagine my kids 5 & 7 sitting at desks most of the day or having 8 minutes to eat lunch- yes, that's the time I heard from a public school mom. I sent a year subbing as an aid in our local school. I saw it all firsthand. We are preparing kids for an 8-5 desk job, not real life. Maybe my belief is wrong- but I think most jobs aren't 8-5 desk jobs.

    Great discussion! Looking forward to exploring Gatto's writings. We homeschooled our 4 biological children back in the 80s-90s, then in the mid-90s adopted a little boy with multiple severe disabilities; when he passed away as a toddler I became deeply interested in pursing a degree as an intervention specialist and later spent 12 years teaching "special education" in a public middle school. So I have also seen some of what your guest shares, from both sides of the educational landscape. We decided to educate at home primarily as a result of seeing negative behavioral and academic outcomes in our 2 older children, everything from sadness and rudeness to academic and social stress. Each of our now middle-aged adult children continues to love learning new things and pursuing excellence in his/her own way. Thanks again for teaching me something new and giving me a new author to add to my reading list! Regards, Marie

    Thats one of the reasons that the powers that be, want to get rid of the older generation as soon as possible, as we remember the way it used to be and that it worked just fine.

    I knew it! I had a suspicious feeling the entire time I was in high school and college that this isn't the way! This can't be the way we should do things! Why are we learning these things, i'll never use this in real life. They're conditioning my brain to be what it doesn't want to be. It's nice to hear this is a legit problem and a real thing going on. I would tell my friends and family this and they thought I was just complaining.

Loved the phrase "shoot, aim, ready" 😁 We homeschooling and graduated all five of our children, and have lived outside the box to some degree the last 25 years. But, the last few years have made me question even more about what is normal? Thank you!

    33:47 I think it was more than just "industrialization" making things "easier". I think coming out of the war made a mass population of scared and insecure people, especially children. I think the loss of men and the women pushed into the workplace now widowed, kids losing the strong provider father and a stay home mother.... The fear of war and how vulnerable our lives really are... I think it made all of society weakened and open to the social engineering to come. I think it was easier to accept the grocery stores and city life and public schools because it looked, and was propagandized to be, more prosperous and secure. But the underlying fear and insecurity opened the door for the industrial knight in shining armor riding a trojan horse.

    We got here because we left the Bible and God and Christianity. So the way back is simple. ..go back to the Bible. There is a God. There is truth. There is right and wrong and we go back to the Bible to search what it is.

    I think a cultural change towards making it an active decision to have children, particularly as women, would be incredibly helpful. Parenthood, especially motherhood, is seen as the default so many have children without serious consideration of this option. Many women including myself are very happily childfree.

      This is also the result of the school system that teaches kids to move from milestone to milestone. Marriage and child rearing become developmental next steps after university or trade school rather than intentional life choices. Understanding of sacred and covenantal marriage would help restore intentionality to marriage and child bearing as well.

    • @stephaniebandosik
      @stephaniebandosik Рік тому

      @@stillwatersfarm8499 while I agree with the milestone portion of your comment I do not share your religious beliefs. Children just want caregivers who love them married or not.

    • @stillwatersfarm8499
      @stillwatersfarm8499 Рік тому +1

      @@stephaniebandosik I didn’t say anything about my religious beliefs or anything about people having to be married to have children intentionally. I’m just saying a lot of people get married without knowledge of what a successful marriage is and entails, and then go on to have children with the same lack of intentionality as a matter of course. I think addressing that alone would address a big chunk of the women who think child rearing is a default. 🤷🏼‍♀️
