@damienrichards9743 Every point you listed sounds like a DC/WB problem. These characters do and can sell, but all the suits want to do is shove every piece of Batman down our throats. If Marvel can sell B, C, and D list characters, then DC, who has the better, more popular characters, surely can make them just as much or more popular.

It sucks that DC thinks of Joker as batman's greatest villian they should only use. Batman has many amazing villians that should be used more like Two face, Scarecrow, Bane, Ra's al ghul, Hugo Strange, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, Penguin, and the court of owls. Those villians deserve to be used more in media. There's so much potential with them.

Not just the cholorkinesis, but also her hair color has the same effect on the bat-family that Kryptonite has on the superfamily, so an easy plot? Something involving Vicki Vale.
I agree with you all of these villains all have potential like Hugo Strange he can challenge Batman with Emotions and Batman having to confront his past because Strange is the one who brings it.

When Jared Leto‘s Joker came out, I was in middle school, so I was simping HARD for that man, but now that I’m older, I can confidently say I hate that version of Joker. NEVER AGAIN BRO!!

I think the other problem is how violent the Joker is now. He just murders for no reason, whereas Bronze Age and even Golden Age had reasons to commit murders. He saw Batman as a worthy foe, not someone to obsess over.

@@TheR3d3mpti0n Yeah, I've been reading the Bronze Age, and I like Joker there much better in stories like the Laughing Fish and Joker's Five-Way Revenge.
If I was in charge of DC, I would make a Batman show full of dark and adult themes, have season one not feature the Joker at all and build Scarecrow as Batman's nemesis. Then in season two I would introduce the Joker as the only character with the most saturated colors amongst the rogues, having him pull mostly bank heists with silly puns and gadgets that don't kill anyone, and in batman show down with Joker it would be revealed that Joker didn't steal the money for personal use, in fact he donated it to charity, Joker did all of it to get attention and he just wanted people to laugh while watching the news instead of being scared or depressed.
This idea for the Joker needs polish, but I think it would be a fun twist for the character to be Batman's less serious villain, bordering the line of anti hero. I think it would be a fun contrast amongst all the tragic and straight up evil villains Batman has for the Joker, who nowadays is mostly a crazy mass murderer with plot armor, to be dedicated as the lesser evil or Gotham.
Of course we can't use some of the more famous joker stories but those could be reworked into storylines for Scarecrow, Hugo Strange or Two face.

Then when Joss Whedon took over for the short time that he did, he pushed for a Nightwing movie and Ben Affleck wanted to retcon the dead Robin to be Jason, so both ideas were mutually exclusive even if both men hated each other when it came to every other situation.
Some theorized the Joker is Robin. Like in Darh Knight Returns 2. Though thats just a theory.

She's canonically not. You can bring up alternate universes and Three Jokers which falls into that category all you want but it's not the case

Along with him being overused as hell, I have two big problem with him in recent trays. One, how he's being written more as an agency of chaos/anarchy akin to Heath Ledget rather then having him be the clown prince of crime and Secondly, how the comic keep coming up with excuses as to why no one will kill the guy! Oh, I also hate how much they've been powerscaling him

Ras Al Ghul is my favorite Batman villain. I feel he is a better opposite to Batman, being devoted to the same mission, just on a larger and more destructive scale. Basically Batman with no morals and infinite resources.
DC should do with Batman what MCU does with Spider-man, give him villains never seen before in live action or reinvent villains who have been adapted poorly like Mr. Freeze and try to minimize Joker.

One of the most cringy opinions people say that immediately makes me not think that person is a batman fan for real is "there is no batmn without joker". I'm talking about the people who defend very hard of the Joker's surprise twist as main villain in Arkham Origins and his ghostly return in Arkham Knight. Or the ones who were upset by his lack of use in recent Batman animated movies.
Batman has one of the best set of villains in comic history but you're telling me Batman stories don't get much interesting without the Joker? I mean Superman and Flash can have great books without their arch foes but Batman can't? Spider-Man has a debate of 3 arch enemies *Venom, GG and Doc Oct) and clearly his rogues has had spotlight well in media for a while.
I actually loved the ending of Arkham City, where Joker dies in this way. I actually want this to adapt in a official comic event down the line, something as life altering like Death in the Family. Having Joker actually die would also get rid of the idea that Joker is the "main rival" to Batman.

I do agree that Laughs main problem was being overused, I feel he should’ve died on the mini series he was the main antagonist of.
Making him a literal god was just ridiculous at that point.
Having the character question Batman’s morality and beliefs was cool and all, and him ultimately killing him could have started some questions, about how Batman felt about killing an alternate version of himself that was nothing short of a monster, despite his no killing rule.
In some sense it could’ve even been seen as a mercy kill since despite how monstrous Laughs is, his fall to villainy was against his will.
We could’ve even had some moments of lucidity with him about having to live up with the immense guilt over his actions and being unable to stop due to his fractured mind.
We also could have canonized that killing joker releases a gas that turns anyone near him to jokers, giving DC a good excuse as to why he's never killed.
The best part of Batman who Laughs was Joker and Batman teaming up to throw him off.

I always preferred Scarecrow. He's Batman's TRUE antithesis in my opinion. Both use fear as an apparatus, whereas Jonathan Crane is a psychiatrist that makes sense he'd be evil knowing man's evil himself. Scarecrow's are pretty scary and he can even fight. In the Arkham Games it is mentioned in the recordings he's not "sympathetic" he's just pure evil, and I like that about him. Joker has no origin he is evil for the sake of evil and gets away with feats he doesn't deserve because 'I'm crazy" so is every other supervillain in Gotham. Joker could be a bigger threat than Darkseid if they wanted (for no reason at all). That's why I don't care for him.

So many underused Batman villains like Black Spider, Orca, Doctor Phosphorus, even Killer Croc. Who else has been underused? Just like Spider-Man villains like Scorpion & Rhino who are very underused.
David Cain and Lady Shiva are two I want to see in live action. Get them in the public zeitgeist so that if/when Cassandra Cain eventually gets adapted, people can have a rough idea of what her OG parents were like ala what happened with the Al Ghuls being used in the Nolan trilogy.

Two Face and Penguin are one of Batman rogue that needed more spotlight but no, it had to be the Joker every freaking time. This is shown best at Suicide Squads video game. Let the Joker rest before we go back to him again, no one would complain if other Batman Rogue get more screen time.
Two Face never gets the love he deserves! Have a story with Penguin taken over Gotham and Harvey Dent trying to bring him to justice! Two of Penguins thugs capture Harvey and torture him almost Death! This leads Harvey to become Two Face. Then have Two Face become the next big bad!

Honestly it’s the over exposure that really neutered the Joker for me and the over complication of his background and mythos. I preferred when he was more Moriarty to Batman’s Sherlock. I don’t like when the Joker knows who Batman is or has any interest in that, because it isn’t a part of the game between the two. Honestly the perfect essence of the Joker to me is in Detective Comics 475&476 because he works both ends, he concocts goofy schemes yet is absolutely terrifying and he is all about the game.

The Batman 2022 had the right idea, mostly focusing on street level/serial killer like mystery villains. I'd actually want a Professor Pyg, Hush, heck, I'll even see what they can do with the Court of Owls.
See, this is exactly why I had a problem with Arkham Origins because around when I was younger my graduating year the Dark Knight came out, then Arkham City and then they had in a bunch of comics and then other movies and when he was the twist villain in origins it made me so upset because they did Black Mask dirty and at that point I was really over the Joker and then they jumped to Harley and that is really when I was like... Okay... Can we stop with these two haha.

Writers also do a disservice when they write a lot of Joker stories that literally boil down to just being shock value because there's no substance and makes the character feel less interesting as a result.
DC forgets what made joker so compelling and complex in the first place is he’s a final boss. Once you use him it’s hard to use him again. He is the bottom of the barrel evil, worst of the worst when it comes to batman villains. Joker is a genius and completely unpredictable. Batman should only ever have to face him a few times before he realizes he’s too dangerous to be kept alive. He’s literally one of the only things Bruce truly fears. Just read Man who laughs and you’ll understand what I mean
I would say the weakest part about the matt reeves batman is the main antagonist. The riddler was super wack, wanting comic book movies to be realistic is so dumb. The riddler wasn't even the riddler he was great value zodiac killer

Yeah, that was one of my only major complaints with the movie. I was really excited to get a grounded batman series with no joker in sight for at least one or two movies but that was crushed the moment the riddler got locked up. I was super disappointed and I hope the sequel has nothing to do with him

I think Ledger’s Joker performance, its acclaimed reception, and his ultimate untimely death cemented the Joker as a pop culture staple stone showcasing comic book stories as mature as they can tackle in such a realistic, intense, and dramatic topics such as the Joker’s very certainly damaged psyche/mental health and psychotic/psychopathic persona.

There was a pitch for 1st Round Robin tournament the pitch was called Son of The Creeper. But sadly Tim Seeley’s Robins won.
Sin Tzu, Wrath, Prometheus, Kirk Langstrom, Kobra Cult, Deacon Blackfire, Caraxes, Mister Freeze, Doctor Death, Doctor Phosphorus, Equinox and the enhanced assassin Philo Zeiss are all waiting to be in more projects. Zeiss is an actual Batman villain who would take the place of Deathstroke a Titans villain. Batman needs more fantastical villains and super assassins instead of the mob and serial killers.
The villains from the 80s and 90s need to be used more like Deacon and the Dr especially the Dr's Gas mask trench coat design. Those older batman comics genuinely felt less like super hero comics and more like detective stories and Gotham felt bigger then just Batman and Joker you had all kinds of oddballs. Personally Id throw in Orphan, Lockup, Azzy, Terrible Trio, Mad Monk, Stirk in there too

BatKeaton drops a bomb that causes an entire factory filled with people to explode, or lights a guy on fire with his Batmobile. BatBale causes an explosion inside of a dojo killing the fake Ras al Ghoul and all the ninjas and even the very criminal he refused to kill, or even pushed Two Face off of a building, nobody panics. But as soon as BatFleck kills the bad guys, well then suddenly everyone loses their minds!
Also, BatFleck didn’t kill until after the Superman incident. He saw Superman as a major threat to humanity and decided not to hold back anymore.

I think the problem isn't necessarily that Joker is oversaturated (even though that is also part of it) but that he has the spotlight on him way too much. What the animated series did great is that there was no doubt that Joker was Batmans most prominent foe but he was integrated into larger stories elegantly, like Mask of The Phantasm where the relationship between Bruce and Andrea was the bricks of the story and Joker was just a part of the mortar. And they actually used him vary creatively like in The Laughing Fish, or when he was the judge at Batmans trial by the rogues. Where as almost everything today just becomes essentially the same tortureporn schlock that is essentially screaming at you how Joker is the scaryest guy ever when he really isn't. We get it death of the family was cool but it hasn't been since.
So i think it would at least make it more tolerable if they gave Joker a wider range of roles in stories instead of being the hyperspecific version of him that everyone uses for some reason.
I'm honestly amazed how little Bane gets used. I would have thought of all the villains he has, that's the one they would make sure to stick every time they make a new version of Batman, but they tend to keep him surprisingly downplayed.
And yes, I know versions of him aren't exactly rare, I'm just saying, not as often as I would think, and he usually seems to be a side character. Even in the Nolan Trilogy, it was revealed he wasn't actually the ultimate force behind all the chaos in Gotham.

Honestly, I can justify the main trilogy being about Batman and Joker, but all four games? Yeah, no. That's tooo much. I think it would've been cool to see Arkham Origins be the story of Black Mask hiring these assassins to take down Batman only for Black Mask to get captured but the remaining assassins (Lady Shiva and Bane) are still on the hunt for reasons beyond financial gain. If WB wanted to push The Arkham Games more by having sequels Origins head a new trilogy that focused on the organized crime side of Batman's career instead of 3 more games about Batman and Joker, it probably would help ease the Joker fatigue that the Arkham fans have.

Joker is my favorite Batman villain but they need to stop overusing him too much, there are so many other great villains that haven't got to shine yet.
And that's why I LOVED The Batman (2022). Sure it has that stupid Joker cameo but at least he wasn't the main villain again. The Riddler was really cool and I can't wait to see what they'll do with The Penguin in his series.
