Holy CRAP its That Dude in Blue! :0 And well put. I've had so many feels in this episode I'm just kinda sitting here like "Well what do I do now?" xD

7 years later and this is still the best depiction of loss and grief on film. And its in a show about playing video games at high school.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer has a similar episode. Can't remember which one, but Buffy comes home to find her mom dead on the couch due to a complication from her successful cancer surgery. A cracked rib from CPR, a hole punched in a wall and (tell me if this sounds familiar) little to NO MUSIC making every silence drawn out and uncomfortable. VGHS definitely did it better, but I wouldn't be surprised if the writers took some inspiration.
Watching it when I was younger didn’t really feel the same, but after going through it myself as an adult I totally understand what Ted is saying and going through. Just an empty feeling
Season 4 might be coming out
@@uck7611 for real?
Definitely! The contrast between all the laughing at the beginning with the silence after is heartbreaking, but truthful.

Bruh I’ve watched series 2 times and I’m on my 3rd and I never noticed. 😳
coming back to watch this after all this time is so good now that i’m old enough to actually comprehend shit, dude Ki was really pissing me off this episode but i also realized that was kind of the point. Ki is a girl who was raised with two very loving and attentive parents and Ted is the literal exact opposite. Ki has absolutely no idea how he’s feeling right now and how to help him deal with it, and she was doing all the wrong things. taking a methodical approach instead of realizing that healing isn’t a “how to” guide and not everything has the same solution. and as mad as she made me this episode, I also realize Ki has a giant heart. and while good intentions lead you to do stupider things, Ki, along with brian and jenny, really do care for him and are starting to realize exactly why he is the way he is.
VGHS fans need to start a podcast to talk about all of the thousands of things we love about this show lol it's so underappreciated
I think Ki is also supposed to be autistic so the way she acts makes sense in that context
“They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, I wonder what road I’m on” - Ki Swan
Ki was raised in a relatively normal and loving family, and she didn't meet any obstacles on her way to life, so she is oblivious and at least, irrational in dealing with grief and loss. That's why she really doesn't understand what to do with Ted, or having a mental crisis when she knows the real world is not a game.
In addition, she is childish, which can be shown in her:
1. Boredom to lack of works
2. Refusal to give up (Loophole, Social Club, etc.)
3. Willingness to do everything
4. Resort to drastic measures, when someone she knew did it (Wendell + Ted cheating = Ki cheating, Brian + Jenny make out = Ki + Ted make out, etc.)
5. Diamond justice, where she sees everything black and white, and no gray.
This, coupled in with everything else, generally leads to her growth, if anything.
@@garfieldsspaghetti I think Ki also has autism as well so that plays a big factor in it too.
God Ted trying his hardest to keep his composure was just heartbreaking

VGHS gone really dark this season.... But Life have ups and downs also.... and the actors perform magnificently....
I wouldn't say dark. More like progressing in a direction that connects it's audience.
i agree with you man this season is really dark and have much more emocional charge too bad this is the last season !!
Killing Bandit Watch the first and second Harry Potter Movies. Then skip to the last two. That is what ten or more years of acting will do, as well as growing up.
These guys may not be the likes of Brad Pitt, or Hugh Jackman, but those guys have years of experience up their sleeves. Some of these guys act full time, some of them do it as a second hobby (Jimmy Wong for one) and they still performed pretty damn well.
That being said, I have loved this season the best out of all of them. Why? It has had a mixture of stories to tell, and a different way of telling them and conveying it to the audience in each episode. This one managed the cheesy laughing track gag really well - especially when most people had that old school comedy portrayal. That works very well with few comedy series... and this series pulled it off pretty well. That and the character growth, their experiences, descent and rising back up through the path of high school and life, has been shown really well this season. I feel like they are more realistic characters this season, especially more so than the first season. It manages to give off that old Saved By The Bell TV Series vibe but still manages to have some heart felt moments and time for realistic and depressing confronting moments they have had to face.
I, for one, have definitely enjoyed this season so far. I just wish they had more episodes than six.
This show went from "hilarious" to "most emotionally intense thing I've seen all year" in the time-frame of like, one episode.

I didn't realize just how well this episode was written until I came back and watched it almost 7 years later. Almost all of the dialogue between Jenny and Brian, Ted and Ki, I found it insanely relatable and almost unusually real. I haven’t watched this in years, and holy shit when they told Ted. I remembered it being pretty heavy, but it as way heavier than i remembered. That switch from the weird campyness of the episode to like the most real human reaction to loss i’ve ever seen in film or tv. And it happens when they turn off the laugh bot to visualize that. Such an incredible episode.
⚠️⚠️SPOILER WARNING⚠️⚠️
This is why Ted seemed to be (or is) really needy and attached to his friends. They are the only people Ted has. He grew up with NO ONE loving and taking care of him. He only had his dad which didnt really give a single crap about him :(
For those who hates him because of how he's needy or acts like a douchebag to his friends, he apologized for being terrible to his friends later in the episode.
Ted suffered a lot. He wanted to feel loved because from the past years of his life, he didn't feel a bit of it. That's why when he found Brian's friendship badge on the floor, he got really disappointed.
I'm sorry for this long comment, I'm just defending my bby 😭

Wow, 21:50, the zoom in when Brian sees what good parents look like. Small moment but so powerful.
that, and i also think it reminded him of himself and jenny, which is really sweet in its own. amazing series, watched it for the first time in middle school, again during the pandemic, and once more now as a freshman in college. a fun youtube series that was cleverly disguised as a life lesson about growing up
4 years later and to this day... nothing has ever hit me so hard than when Ted finally broke. The build up, reactions, emotions were so well brought to life that it just punches you in the gut!
This... This is it. Not only the greatest episode of the ENTIRE series, one of the greatest videos on youtube. This displays the grief stages of dealing with death more accurate then anything ive ever seen, and made me feel every emotion possible. This episode takes the fact that these kids are teenagers and shoves it down your throat for this episode, while the rest of the series (for the most part) tried to make you forget it, this one brought it back up, and showed how vulnerable they were. Scenes like ki (I think thats how its spelled) crawling in bed with her parents, Teddy needing a place to stay, etc. etc. Plus this even touches on child abuse. They artfully made this still have humor in it that wasn't forced or to relieve tention, but added to it. When Teddy jokingly said "He died doing what he loved, riding his motercycle without his helmet on" I acknowledged it as a joke, thought it was pretty funny, but didn't laugh, i still enjoyed that joke, but it wasn't out of place, it added to the story of Teddies eventual break down, as he tries to act strong in front of friends. This season, we have seen Teds life to go shit, and as it reaches its climaxe, we see his friends help him through like never before. This is movie quality, this is deserving, no, NEEDING of awards, this is fantastic, its psycological, its incredible, and its the definition of not only human emotions, but good story telling and charector developement. This one episode makes up for ALL of season twos static charector developement, this episode is one of the greatest things I have had the pleasure of seeing in my life.

Came back after all these years because my parents died. Never seen what it is like to loose not great parents so accurately represented.
I'm sorry you had to experience any of that. I hope you're finding a way to deal with it all.
I know this came out 8 years ago, but man this episode was a punch in the gut. My brother passed away in 2018 after spending more than 6 months in hospital. I reacted much in the same way Ted did, smiling and trying to be positive, comforting family members while neglecting my own feelings. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same levels of support that Ted has. Two of my friends actually laughed at me when I broke down and cried in front of them one day. My brother was my best friend and we did everything together, I miss him every day. Major props to the actors in this episode, especially that last scene in the arcade.
After I watched this episode 9 years ago, I sat back and tried to imagine the important people in my life dying, and when I got to my brother, that was when my mind went blank. What would change, apart from everything? He was my best friend for many years when I was very lonely, and he's always been the person I feel safest around and trust the most in the world, the one person who understands me and treats me with compassion. It's strange to see a person for who that horrible worst case scenario came true...
I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm deeply, deeply sorry that people you loved and trusted didn't respect what you were going through, the unimaginable physical and mental pain that grief brings. I hope you're feeling a little better. I hope this episode was a comfort to you. Gotta hand it to Mr and Mrs Swan. They are really loving caring parents doing the best they can. In an absurd world where videogames are the forefront of human culture; this episode feels human, genuine, and real.
RavingRoman I know i love it
RavingRoman They are the only parent figures that are shown in a positive light. Ted's mom isn't shown but Freddie was obviously abusive, not only physically but especially emotionally so. Brian's mom and dad neglected him, making Brian terrified of losing anyone close to him in any way. Jenny did mention how her dad took care of her and was a great single dad but isn't really shown or made an important figure while her mom focused solely on career and gaming and did not consider her daughter or her feelings, albeit Mary is trying to be better. Key's dad, while a little antagonistic at first, was only acting like it. Her parents are supportive of Key and help her grow, listening as well and trying to help and understand her.
Its no wonder Brian, Jenny, and Ted are not so well adjusted. Key on the other hand, is just a bit sheltered and her actions come out a little awkward or she makes mistakes because she is trying to act out of good intentions most of the time.
@@The_Stray It was only Brian's mom that neglected him. He mentions to Jenny on parent day that his dad died when he was three years old, which is one of the reasons he's probably the best at helping Ted grieve.

Damn, this episode is the best by far, I think. Really captures what it feels like when someone close to you dies, and you don't know how to respond. You want everyone around you to act "normal", like nothing's changed, but then you'll still hypocritically go back into your bathroom and cry about it later. While you don't act "normal", while you lose it. Really relatable.

That moment when a UA-cam show from 2013 is more emotionally impactful than almost all the TV shows you’ve seen recently...
When Ted find out- the lighting shifts. It’s a technique used to show emphasis and a moment of seriousness to a comedic show. It draws away from an outline and creates a moment for the audience to silence themselves. End rant, sorry I’m just a lightning nerd lolll
Nah keep going bro, plus the camera becomes more personal and less static, drawing you into the characters internal conflicts, it's also another technique to shift the tone of the scene.
no no its fine man. I actually learned something from cinematography for once. Thanks!

This is a character development episode that ties in amazingly to the last episode, gives us the sense that the characters have much more depth than a highschool crush and video gaming. Ki is not always in control, Ted is much more than a goofy guy that does comic relief, Jenny is much more than her FPS career and Brian is much more than a talented fps player.
Contrary to the comments I fully love this episode and I really hope we'll see much more character development alongside amazing VFX stuff.
And the actors are sublime, I honestly didn't expect these guys to be able to act this fucking good.
Well done guys, well done.
true
how did you find second season?
Completely agree, now we have that link that connects the viewers to the characters. Maybe you know someone that's going through what Ted is going through. Maybe you're going through it. Or maybe you're the support.
For me, it is the best episode of VGHS :)
Totally agree with you. People don't understand scenes with a lot of emotions is very hard to do. All the cast did a great job and Jimmy Wong props to him!
Is it just me or are ki's parents the only parents that actually care for their child?
Ki*, her full name is Ki Swan
ki is short for kimberly, they said it in the episode
no
Isa Me bla bla bla the dad said kiwi and the mom said kimberly
Luey Garcia lmao so true, but Jenny's dad that we never see cared for her
All these years later and this is one of the greatest explorations of grief that I've ever seen in a television episode.
This show truly did something real.
I do not know why, but after coming back to this show after not watching it for years... It is literally still in my top shows. for a low budget youtube show, it is INCREDIBLE. Jimmy Wongs performance in this is AMAZING, and it brought tears into my eyes.
The first 10 minutes i couldn't stop laughing... well, funny how fast things can change...
Yep
They had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
ikr
goosebumps!!
Brian does it all the time he goes from 😃😐
I think I started to figure this show out. Each single parent represents a different type of domestic problem. The main character's mom represents neglect. Jenny's mother represents control. And Ted's father represents abuse. All of which are represented in an extremist addiction or obsession from our generation of gaming. I think this whole absurd comedy is based around the flaws and addictions of our generation set to an extreme, to create this society that is completely centered around that addiction. The whole point of the first two seasons is to set up this comedy for us all to laugh at the silly and impossible nature of this show, only for the third season to respond with "yeah, it is absurd, this is fucked up."
Dude, that's so smart!!!!
O_O
Do you have a brain that is bigger than average?
Probably reading too much into it; however with what you just said - it makes VGHS even more epic - but im sure freddie wong didn't set out for that agenda
Steve Williams I don't know, I find it hard to believe it's not intentional. Regardless of the societal implications, I think that the parents and the type of abuse they represent was intentional at the very least.
This makes sense, VGHS represents video games as a whole because the reason lots of people play video games is to go to a place where you're free from any issues that you're having such as control issues, neglect or abuse. Where people with similar problems can meet and become friends.
ki's parents actors are so amazing and talented.. they truly give such comforting parent vibes
One of my absolute favorite scenes in cinematography! The abrupt twist from sitcom to the reality of the grief of Freddy’s death, and the epiphany of Ted that he’s been robbed of a loving family is done superb. Great job RocketJump
This is the best episode so far.
Yeah, it didn't have any action in it, yeah, no shootings or explosions...
But there's the emotional side of VGHS as a show. I loved it. I finally saw some dramatic depth in the show.
Beautiful episode, and every actor did a great job. I didn't expect to see them as drama actors.
Beautiful, fucking beautiful. Hats down!
And you're goddamn right!
I was about to type the same thing, but you sir, save me the time.
This is so fucking true, the intensity of the situation and the tenseness of the atmosphere was executed to a film industry standard, I shed tears over this.
Beautiful
If you thought this was good wait until episode 6. Its an hour long finale.
It better be a season finale cause if this doesn't go to season 4 I will die inside and be really depressed no joke I just started watching this and I love it so much and I do not want it ever to go away.
DubstepGaming HD I'm pretty sure they said season 3 is the last one, sorry dude.
No matter how much someone doesn't care for you. There is always someone there who still loves you!
Preach man, Preach🙌🏼🙏🏻
Nope. Not for everyone.
+Levitbert Rovitikus yeah tell that elephant mutant to SHUT UP
like gaben
+Joe Jackson like harambe
My respect for Ki’s parents📈📈📈
And also well acting Ted
“good morning, or should i say... good MOURNING”
You little shit you got me laughing on Ted's dad
This episode deserves some kind of award, the ending was breathtaking :( Poor Ted and the fact that Brian was almost in tears as well was just..wow
the acting in this episode was top notch for a web series. a lot of shows try to cover loss in some way but a spin like this, how freddie's character was. i know some people out there can relate and in a way i hope it was for them.
Agreed
+Devin Koks I agree with u so much. People hate it for all the drama but it makes it so much better
To everyone complaining that VGHS has turned into a "teen drama," I find it ridiculous to believe or assume that just because the main characters are teenagers that means that the topics of love, death, or human relationships are any less significant, dramatic, or providing of substance to the story. Seriously, how else do you expect the show to wrap up? They play in a championship match or a big game the end? That's the past two seasons right there. We've already seen that. If you want to talk about shortcomings, the only small beef I've got with these four episodes so far, is the lack of Law. Other than that, the show even has it's same kind of humor that it established in the first two seasons so I don't see what there is to complain about.
the? I'm interested to know what happened....Did law find you while you were typi----*dies*
Edit: Nvm, i couldn't see the other words but now I can. Google Plus. *dies again*
Thank. you.
This comment was what i was trying to say to everyone but i just couldn't get these words. for that, thank you Joseph DeMille
DICK BUTT Haha, no probs bruh
it's also hands-down the best crows funded tv show of all time
Going back after all these years to watch this, I'm still struck by how 0:00 to 1:30 is truly a masterclass in the art of showing without telling.
No exposition, no dialog of any kind. We don't even see the accident, but we know . . . we know, we know, we know.
The close-ups of his face that show he's not wearing a helmet, the sudden lack of any music as he's riding, the shaky camera, the shots from his perspective showing blind curves at a dangerous speed-everything's perfectly calculated to make us extremely uncomfortable. To this day, that scene makes me cringe inside the way I'd normally respond to scenes with explicit blood and violence.
Wow. . . forgot how impactful this episode was, seeing it from an older perspective makes me really appreciate the whole series, cast, script, everything
I’m so glad the series still gets views. This is my comfort show. I’ve watched it so many times.
@@Spooon10 same, I watch it about every 3 months
@@Spooon10Good media always leaves behind legacy, we'll be watching this in 20 years
For some reason I expected the damn robot to laugh when they told him Freddie died LMFAO
you saw ki's dad turn the robot off
Ayy we all got that dark sence of humor
I actually laughed out loud on a bus while reading this. They probs think im crazy
Tyler I mean I saw the guy turn it off before then, too, but...I wouldn’t be surprised if anybody forgot that.
"oh, you though it was going to be a comedic fun episode because of the beginning and the thumbnail huh?"
Writer's were absolutely incredible in this episode, love it.
I watched this for the very first time around 2016sh and man, after my father lost the battle against cancer in 2018, this episode just seems to really connect.
When I had to face the loss of a father, I remembered of this episode and in some way it helped me a lot.
I love this episode but so much more by knowing that Ted has always been phenomenal at the guitar games, only he would purposely play bad so that Freddy wouldnt hate him for being better than him. The fact that he kept this ruse up for so long is heartbreaking and explains so much
TheM1844 holy shit. I never thought about it like that. Damn that's some good writing
TheM1844 gggv
Maybe that's why he hated his son, he knew that his son was better than him, and he is.
Wait Ted was actually good... Holy crap I've watched this about 8 times and never realized (^.^)
Caden Rolland hence the " he stays where he belongs, in my shadow!" line
"How's your dad?"
"Alive"
FUCKING HELL Jenny...
Jenny y did u sy dat?
She meant it like, "It doesn't really matter in comparison to Ted's dad and what Ted's going through"
I loved the acting in this ep and is easily one of my favorite VGHS episodes as it delves into such dark and serious topics without breaking the narrative or feeling unnatural.
With all the fun and silliness of this show, it delivered truly astounding moments and insights. I’m rewatching it after some years and it still holds up.
Goes on youtube. "Oh, Nice! A new episode! Time to sit back and watch a light-hearted relaxing show with some gun fights!"...... (30 minutes later)......O-O :'''(
Exactly! But then...
D; *leik if you cri every time*
I know dude like, its stomping all over my feels to be honest.
Wow...
Never thought watching VGHS would make me cry when I began watching this.
You literally made me thankful for having such great parents, even if I often have some dispute with them.
I thought about taking more advantage with them because every second could be the last...
These 39 minutes touched me more than all I've seen, heard and experienced in the last years..
GREAT PROPS!
I wish more Guys would make films like this...
(PS: I'm sorry for my bad English, I'm German ;D )
Too long did not read and do not respond plz
Loser
+This is, a tasty burger Uncalled for.
Nice! (Sry so mch 4 b@d 3ngl1szh)
your country sucks...
this ending makes me cry every time even tho I seen this show 5 times, powerful stuff
I recall this episode being slow, boring, and forgettable when I watched it at age 14. Was definitely not expecting to bawl my eyes out today.
I am still in awe of season 3's genius compared to seasons 1 and 2, and how little I appreciated it when I was younger. You will forever be the best, RocketJump!!
