There is something about Maserati that is just worth the premium. It's the looks for sure, the quality of the leather, the sound, the rarity/oddity of it, the way people respond to it....and I can know because I own a 2009 Quattroporte 4.2. This engine sounds exactly like the one in the Stelvio Quadrifoglio. And I mean exactly. On paper they’re different power units, but even the engine cover looks the same…
The 2.9 QV and the 3.0 "Nettuno" both have a *very* similar architecture - I'm inclined to say they share the same block even. However the Maserati 3.0 has completely revised heads, higher compression and more displacement, resulting in (close to) 3000ccm. It also features pre-chamber ignition, which enables a compression ratio of 11:1 in a turbo engine in combination with loads of boost, without causing engine knock. And yes, they're both related to the 90° Twinturbo Ferrari/Maserati V8 family (dubbed the F154).

The Grecale is indeed beautiful, but when Mrs. Legouix stood beside it, the car “disappeared”….. The price isn't optimal but the hardware seems up to the task. Somehow I doubt that German Macan-producing company is sweating too much though. When Porsche starts beating you on price you might want to bring in the green eyeshade brigade.
I just discovered that Maserati is now owned by Stellantis. This means that while it was once a subsidiary of Ferrari, this is no longer the case. Perhaps Autotrader can delve into this as to why Ferrari offloaded Maserati ? do they still share engines and other hardware
Great engine, great interior ... but the exterior (including the wheels) is a big let down. The biggest competitor is not the dull looking Macan but the cheaper and much better looking Stelvio Q.
I think this is too small to be a "midsized" crossover. Usually when "midsized crossover" is mentioned, we think of the Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz GLE or BMW X5.
@Afraz_9n3 it depends on where you are, but in most parts of the world (particularly in Africa) where we majorly use cars designed for use in America and the Middle East, the X3, GLC and Q5 are regarded as compact crossovers. If you call those midsized, then what would you call something like the Lexus LX570?
@@damilolaakanni in Europe and UK the Q5 X3 and glc are mid sized. We don't have the road space of America or the middle east and so we don't have those oversized American style SUVs. All new Maseratis are excessively expensive due to the fact that the brand fails to create sufficient synergies with the rest of the Stellantis brands, which is why increasingly insistent rumors in Italy say that it will be sold to Ferrari, let's hope so.
Neither BMW or Mercedes can be compared to Maserati, yes you might get a GLE for the price of a Gracale Modena, but when you get a Maserati you don't get to touch oe see the cheap and scratchy plastic by the door handle in the GLE. That's what you can call a premium life style
