Thank you so much for all the lovely comments everyone, I'm blown away by the response! If you have any Qs about UA-cam or making better videos, head to my community tab and leave a comment on the post there - I'll be answering them in an upcoming video 😄
Don't forget that being a UA-camr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing your channel of course, but patience and hard work (with a little bit of Famester to help) will always pay off at the end. Good luck to everybody, we are all going to succeed one day!!
@@tomrenegadefilms Yeah, sadly I had to give up the growth aspect and focus more on the freedom aspect. I just don't have any energy at all to make videos if i'm more focused on growth, because I often have to sacrifice what I loved about doing UA-cam in the first place, which was making whatever fun videos I wanted and putting all my effort into making deeply meaningful and important creations that i've always wanted to make. If I picked growth, it feels like i'm kinda dragging along. Trying to muster up the smiles and energy to do the content that other people want. I also hate to admit it, but I kinda don't want to make content that others want. It feels like I am faking a smile, trying to act like I love what my audience wants, but in reality I kinda don't love it. It's like I had a vision when I started my channel to make all the content I've always wanted to make, but now people say I have to make content for other people instead of myself. I don't know, that just doesn't sound viable for me. And maybe it is for other people, but to me it just kills my creative soul if i'm always putting others first. I just want to create whatever I want, first and foremost. I want to create my own fun creative videos without the pressure of needing to conform to others expectations of what they want out of me. Y'know what I mean?
@@WeaklyStarsI know that feeling and it's really hard top admit that what we do is usually not what people need The mindsest I'm trying to pull to solve this is answering this question "how can I make peoples want what I love to do ?" And I sometimes find it : add something people want to package the thing you really love An example. Here in France people don't like the fish I like the most, but to make it popular I packaged the video with a concept "Everytime I catch a fish, I change my lure"
I have been doing this for 10 years, went through rebranding 4 years ago and have now passed 26k…this game is not easy nor quick. This was a great explanation of what is needed to move forward. I will add, not everyone will make it…just the way it is. I had TON of people that were UA-cam friends over the years …most quit because they realized it’s not easy, and maybe they were not cut out for the work it takes to do what it takes. Great video.
After 2 years and 200 fully edited videos I had gotten only 500 subscribers. Every video I made I had the pressure of being the viral one, the one that pops off the channel into the stratosphere. It never happened. I though about giving up so many times, until one day I decided to change my mindset from "I want to be the next big poke tuber" to "When everyone else gives up, I want to be one of the OGs who was there from the start." That mindset shift allowed me to work at my own pace, be more creative now with less pressure to conform and be someone I was not, and somehow that led to me hitting 10K subscribers this year. So if I've learned anything, it's that you don't hit a target with an arrow by shooting in every direction hoping for a hit, and you don't keep shooting in the same way that's been missing. You recalibrate your aim and make incremental adjustments so your aim is controlled and inch by inch you get closer to your target... but you'll never hit it if you give up.
I started UA-cam earlier this year with no actual aim in mind, just a way to upload videos that would otherwise sit as collections of short clips on my phone never to be seen again. I then thought maybe a need to have a niche and adopt a style, like all the successful UA-camrs I have watched over the years. That's when I started falling into the trap as you said of shooting arrows in random directions hoping one will hit the target. It's made even harder as with few subscribers you don't get the valuable feedback that can help direct the focus and so continue the random fire. Congratulations on the growth of your channel, it's so inspiring to hear when others manage to break through.
You've built the skills, no one can ever take that away from you. Your voice is nice, your presence is nice. Maybe start a channel about something else than pokemon cards. Something a lot more people want to see. I know you want do something you love, but maybe, just maybe, you love making youtube videos more than you love pokemon cards.
Yah and his simple Way of doing UA-cam videos with no much editing makes him so relatable. Cause we see he's natural and human just like us . I'll apply this in my next video thanks G
I’ve been thinking about how UA-cam help channels are always so glued to analytics rather than actual perspective of running a UA-cam channel. This video was a breath of fresh air, focusing on the outside world of UA-cam and not just YT Studios and "if your screen isn’t moving 24/7 you’ll lose viewer retention" not to discredit those videos, they’re very helpful to people beginning the early stages of UA-cam. This was a great video, I’ve never looked at UA-cam that way, it’s funny because I’ve always made those connections with cars. There’s Cheap, Fast and Reliable and you can only ever have two 😂
MY MAN. This is a behemoth video of great advice. I'm in your camp, now. Looking forward to making great choices via creative output and connections. Thank you so much!!
Honestly, I can't thank you enough for this amazing video. Simple and easy to understand. Out of all the many MANY UA-cam education videos I've watched, this video hit the nail on the head tenfold. Now, I've seen the error of my progression. I keep coming up with gaming idea videos that will shoot me right to the top instead of making content. MY AUDIENCE wants to see. Or retro gamers in general. I've been on UA-cam since 2009 on various accounts, and im still stuck in my old ways of content creation. I'm going to keep watching until this sticks in my head. I was simply uploading videos, hoping for the best coming up with different ideas. Hoping for the best. Granted, I slowly adapted to creating a better hook, better thumbnails and better titles, but none of that matters because of my or the way I approached videos in general. I always struggled with doubling down on videos that actually worked on my channel. I REALLY want to grow. Work towards becoming a bigger youtuber and earn from my craft. And yes, I won't deny that due to my own lack of awareness of what I was doing. My journey has been very tough, frustrating, and disheartening. It's like for many years. I have been putting in so much hard work tiring myself out. IM getting more frustrated with the lack of growth. viewers in my comments. Section of one of my videos even asked me why I am not a bigger youtuber because I make good content. I was confused myself at first but after doing much youtube education videos I found out why and yet I still didn't apply everything I was learning because again I was stuck in my old ways of content creation. So thank you very kindly again for this amazing video
I’m a trucker and educate to inspire and document my personal journey. It’s a passion I have and enjoy it - some helpful tips here so thank you buddy - and happy new year to you all 😊
This has helped me out a lot. I was and probably still will be stuck in that rabbit hole, but I do have a better understanding of what I should be doing now. Thank you for this!
A helpful reminder thanks. I also wanted to do the cinematic type videos but wanted the other 2 circles as well and realised all 3 wasn't going to happen. Cinematic is parked for a while now to return later.
Great insights. I am just getting started with UA-cam and have already run into a lot of problems related to these ideas. Still working on getting a niche down or even figuring out what kind of videos I want to make. Right now just seeing what works and seeing what gives me joy while making and trying to do more and more of that.
Thank you for what seems like the most honest video I've watched about filming videos for UA-cam. I'm about to start filming next week and this reality check was just what I needed.
Well done Tom, some great advice from someone so young, well done. I say that cos I'm 66 + years old and a photographer now just on UA-cam, I have two channels the eldest being just over 3 months old, struggling for views on both, am I impatient. What you speak about make perfect sense to me. Have now subscribed to your channel. Thank you. Colin Devon UK.
Thanks Colin. It does take time for sure, most of the people who grow a new channel very quickly have had previous experience. I hope you will find the upcoming videos helpful!
Amazing video, really liked the graphic/drawed assets and being down to earth and honest about this yt journey, I also really agree about the "choose 2 out of 3"
I did never see anywhereelse such a perfect, wunderful, loving great advice for us - the people. You nailed it. I agree 100%. Go on with making this world a better place - that's it. That's success.
Another great vid Tom! Fully related to the cycle of putting out content and that flip flopping between wanting to make something successful by following those measures and then doing what makes you tick personally on any given day. Something to think about for me on the next few vids, especially the importance of just picking one pathway and putting that focus into nailing one thing!
Thanks Connor! Yeah it's a tough one for sure - and I still wrestle with a bit myself but nowhere near as badly as I used to... This video is a little reminder for me too!
Great advice, enjoy the content you make instead of focusing on numbers. Thats a reason ive seen a lot of small ytubers quit, just cuz their views were low. All you small creator, keep going, hopefully all our channels improve.

So relatable, and love the drawing! I used to try to upload what I thought/hoped people wanted. Then I grew up and started a full-time job. I’m only a musician, and not a great one at that, so have recently started filming my busking sessions and uploading easy tutorials, which I really like doing. Have no choice but to leave the growth/fame etc to others, couldn’t grow anyway 😂
Thank you so much for sharing the video, I really like your idea, I'm trying to understand it because I’m Thai, my UA-cam channel has very few subscribers, but I feel encouraged by listening to you, I feel that you have a good way of thinking, thank you.😊😊
This video is exactly right for new creators and a great reminder for myself. Some videos are for me but most need to be for the audience if you want growth. You need to figure out what others want to see then make a lot of that, like a lot a lot of
Super exciting to see other people grow. It’s amazing. I love this app, and I know you will succeed, brother, because I know I need to succeed on UA-cam, and seeing channels like yours gives me inspiration and maybe you can be free and still grow I feel like that’s what I’m doing rn
I am a new creator as well. The trap hole is so relatable but I believe that we can all have our share of success on this platform. Small channels out tgere, we got this !
Very good video mate, I have just created my channel last week and been sharing some stuff. I really appreciate the drawing and efforts you have put in this video. You`ve earned one subscriber !
Hi Tom... You shared a side of the 'mindset' aspect which is not often talked about on YT wrt (with respect to), making videos/being on YT. ''Chapeau'' to you. great advice and thank you for sharing. 🙂 keep going...do'nt change:-)
Thank you for this video, very uplifting! I'm very motivated to continue my silent vlog cottagecore channel! It took me a few years to realise what kind of content I wanted to share & I feel this is it ❤✨
I don't like that there is a slew of youtube how-to's and stuff. Like everyone and their mother decided to cash in on the topic. But I think this specific issue you address is very well presented and a message that needs to be made to people. I like it.
This is a video that every youtuber should see before they start their journey into the Tube. I shure have some stuff to think about.. Thank you for the tips!
Good video and one that any starting UA-camr needs to hear. I run a channel with over 350k subscribers and almost 300m total channel views, and even I noticed that the trilemma you proposed is actually very accurate. As long as you start your channel with the intention of keeping to that niche, you'll be fine. If you love what you do it's even easier.
Fantastic video explaining the reality of UA-cam content creation; while also asking the viewer to think about why they create and what really motivates them!!! Great artwork by the way 😉👏👏
Great video i was definitely stuck in that rabbit hole more than once and times i wasnt able to work on my channel and a couple times i burnt myself out and stopped cause i lost sight of my goals or vision and my mind set for my channel. But this year ive been getting abit better and learning about myself and figuring out my goals my skills and focusing more on my channel and im full heartly going to continue to improve so bring it on 2025

Nice breakdown. As someone who has been on UA-cam for a while, you've hit the nail on the head with the diagram board presented. Cheers! :)
Thank you!
Fantastic presentation! . You ARE an artist. Thank you!
NGL when you said “to help explain it” my first thought was that you were reaching for a puppet 😂. Great video! And the diagram is spot-on!
After a couple of months i have definitely learned a lot with this current channel. Like most things, consistency is key on this platform
Thanks for this, Tom! Lovely to hear an East Mids accent too (hi from Nottingham!)
Hi from Leicester!
One of the few honest videos on how UA-cam "success" works.
As a fledgling in this YT universe, this video is a life saver. Thank you, you earned a sub.
Love your presentation style! This explaination really clicked. Thank you

What a deep insight, can't believe you got just 1k subs .
You are going a long way not just in terms of subs but in terms what you just said 🤗
This is awesome, thanks Tom!!

Thank you I really appreciated this video. This gave me alot on insight not only on the UA-cam process but maintaining my own happiness and health!
Amazing video, really liked the graphic/drawed assets and being down to earth and honest about this yt journey, I also really agree about the "choose 2 out of 3"
Thanks dude, really appreciate it!
I love this. I'm trying to find ways to convey the ideas in my videos more visually, this was a great inspiration. Keep up the great work :)
I did never see anywhereelse such a perfect, wunderful, loving great advice for us - the people. You nailed it. I agree 100%. Go on with making this world a better place - that's it. That's success.
Your camera and lighting is fireeeee
Another great vid Tom! Fully related to the cycle of putting out content and that flip flopping between wanting to make something successful by following those measures and then doing what makes you tick personally on any given day. Something to think about for me on the next few vids, especially the importance of just picking one pathway and putting that focus into nailing one thing!
Thanks Connor! Yeah it's a tough one for sure - and I still wrestle with a bit myself but nowhere near as badly as I used to... This video is a little reminder for me too!
Thank you Tom!
Following alongside the doodle was so fun! And all your thoughts behind it were really insightful and grounding. 🤩
This video came up on my feed so you are doing something right
Great advice, enjoy the content you make instead of focusing on numbers. Thats a reason ive seen a lot of small ytubers quit, just cuz their views were low. All you small creator, keep going, hopefully all our channels improve.
You said Next Big Thing ???
Dude Love your chart, can I use it for one of my upcoming video? I really want to add my pov to that table too ✨
Kudos to the videos and the art/chart.
Fine by me, just tag me or something :) the one in the bundle is high resolution if you want a good version but feel free to use screen grabs if not
Mind blowing..... 😮
I really like your illustration ☺️it looks amazing and you did a great video with a lot of value and valid points
Thank you for sharing a simple insight with such clarity and relatability that makes all this make a lot more sense! 🙏
This is great, Tom! Really clear and insightful info 🙌
Good advice, You're on the right track. Niching down and sticking to a plan for your videos is important, this way people can see what your video is about. But you also need to think of the (5T's) Topic, Title, Thumbnail, Tags and Trends. Now people claim tags don't matter, but they do if you want Google search traffic. Plus I like to put my tags into sentences inside my description to encourage this. Now, The Topic, Thumbnail, and Title are without a doubt the most important things. Get that right and you will get views on UA-cam.
Trends are really a short term thinking way of getting views. But it's good to help you get started, but it also must stick within your niche. Honest Sensational and Clickbaity titles are also important, as well as visually apealing Thumbnails. If your topic is off the niche, then it is not going to be promoted by UA-cam, because you are confusing it's AI when it comes to it suggesting your videos to people. Trends are a okay for short term growth, but really hard to maintain long term. That's my two cents worth anyway.
HEY! GREAT VIDEO! Your video offers some of the best advice for influencers I've ever heard on UA-cam! Thank you for sharing.
I fully concur!
Hey, if you're enjoying it then why change? 👌🏼
Great video mate! VERY relatable for SURE!
Tom you nailed it man. Very refreshing this view in the world of UA-cam advice. This is finally helpful for most people. Thank you
I really enjoyed this video. Very valuable advice. Thank you! I think having a sincere, kind heart and focusing on giving does make you special!
Video needs to blow up! This is fantastic advice
Thanks dude, really glad people are getting something from it!
You need to figure out what others want to see then make a lot of that, like a lot a lot of
Thanks for this , really opened my eye I can’t lie 🗣️
This was very nice and refreshing advice to hear. Thank you for sharing. 💕
You are totally correct 👍 ❤
This was a great video, I really liked the drawings and your explanation was clear and concise, appreciated. 💙
Hello, thank you for all the insights! Subscribed and I wish all of us creators good LUCK!

Cheers mate, all the best with the new channel!
💯 Wishing everyone great success! This video is a gem in the world of UA-cam content creation.
Hi Tom...
You shared a side of the 'mindset' aspect which is not often talked about on YT wrt (with respect to), making videos/being on YT.
''Chapeau'' to you.
great advice and thank you for sharing.
🙂
keep going...do'nt change:-)
Nice to hear from someone who has been through it and explains in simple terms
Really well explained and thought provoking. Glad I found you. 🙂
Thank you for this video, very uplifting! I'm very motivated to continue my silent vlog cottagecore channel! It took me a few years to realise what kind of content I wanted to share & I feel this is it ❤✨
Good video Tom
Really well made video!!! I agree with this all the way
Outstanding perspective on making videos.
Thanks for sharing this video. I've started my channel recently for fun, as it was something I wanted to try for a while.
New creator here! Thanks for the gems - wishing everyone continued success
It's always great to get concise advice from other creators who have been in the game for awhile. Wishing you great success also!!
Great video! We have just started out and finding our way. Great advice thank you! Also your drawings are really good!
One of the best UA-cam tutorials I’ve seen
I just hit reset on my channel and am back on the grind, this video is giving me the motivation I need! Thank you!! 😃
Great video and super helpful
I don't like that there is a slew of youtube how-to's and stuff. Like everyone and their mother decided to cash in on the topic.
But I think this specific issue you address is very well presented and a message that needs to be made to people. I like it.
This is a video that every youtuber should see before they start their journey into the Tube.
I shure have some stuff to think about..
Thank you for the tips!
Great drawings and thanks for your reflections on UA-cam!
such a beautiful explanation, thanks for sharing the light on this topic. It does help me clear the doubts about going forward with my UA-cam career.
I subbed to support you and your channel! Good luck.
The triangle is the best explanation of what you can do as a creotor basically. Great video. Thanks
Thanks dude, I do love an engineering triangle!
Great stuff man! I’ve been more on UA-cam but trying too much
Wow! This explanation of how youtube works is so true...
Great video and inspiration for new/small channels 👍
Fantastic video explaining the reality of UA-cam content creation; while also asking the viewer to think about why they create and what really motivates them!!! Great artwork by the way 😉👏👏
Thank you! Glad the video is doing what I hoped it would!
I REALLY LIKE THIS VIDEO: WELL DONE... I GOT A TON FROM THIS!
Crazy! Well done with the efforts you've put in. Definitely not easy!
Thank you!
That freedom vs being normal to grow drawing is genius!
This video is actually so helpful thank you bro 😊
Thanks.for sharing your thoughts and process.❤
Great video i was definitely stuck in that rabbit hole more than once and times i wasnt able to work on my channel and a couple times i burnt myself out and stopped cause i lost sight of my goals or vision and my mind set for my channel. But this year ive been getting abit better and learning about myself and figuring out my goals my skills and focusing more on my channel and im full heartly going to continue to improve so bring it on 2025
This was so good. Keep going please
Brilliant summary 🙌 thanks for making
