New vintage car - for 56 years in Brazil - the VW T2 | motorTVee

Old VW buses, like the T2, have legions of fans. The last one rolled off production lines in Germany in 1979. But in Sao Paulo, Brazil, production of the T2 continued right up until the end of last year.
It was a huge success during its lifetime. For a whopping 56 years, an average of 20,000 rolled off the assembly line every year. Now it's the end of an era. The van got all dressed up for its swansong with a limited edition model.

actually the only reason for the discontinuation was the lack of ABS and air bag, wich became mandatory in brazil in 2014, emissions wasn't a problem, cause the most recent years the bus used a modern watercooled 1.4 engine

They really can't fit ABS and airbags in there? The steering wheel is so small on the latest Ram ProMaster vans that I was surprised they could fit an airbag in it.

@@jeromeglick ABS probably would not be a problem, but i'm not so sure about airbag, the structural design of the Bus is too old to safely fit a functional airbag that actually make a positive difference in a crash, probably would be a safety hazzard....
VW of Brazil tried to make a deal with the government to make an exception for the Bus, since the sells was still high cause was the cheapest non-chinese van in the market at that point, but no deal was made

У нас в России тоже такой авто выпускали, UAZ 452, выпускался с 1958 вплоть до 2021 года... Ещё бы 1 год и он обогнал бы Жук по количеству времени на конвейере, не изменяя конструкции. Выпускался потому, что ему никак не находили более дешёвой альтернативы в трудно доступных регионах, и просто заводу Уаз было выгодно гнать хрень, которую и так покупают, ввиду своей некой "душевности", "суровости авто для настоящих мужчин". Хотя у них было немало интересных проектов, которые могли бы заменить её, но управленцы все загубили на корню, из новых только Уаз патриот, и тот с французским двигателем, корейской коробкой.
