  • This video is part of Lorrie Popow's collection of how-to demo videos from Pysanky at the Gardens, an annual event held for egg artists. This video was recorded at the October 2015 event held at the beautiful Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Featured in this video is egg artist Carolyn Trout, who demonstrates how to use a craft lathe as an egg lathe to mark circles, ovals and other lines on an egg. This is a very useful tool that produces beautiful results on your egg. Craft and egg lathes work great for Easter time, or any time of the year!

This is so cool! I have a metal lathe and an indexer for clock making. Can't wait to apply some of this. 👍

Thank you Lorrie, I have listened several times and I got its name is the allcraft lathe made in Ohio but that's all. I have tried the ostrich egg in the plastic one but it touches the bottom. 😔

+Martha West Since I don't have these lathes I had to go back and listen to the video to hear Carolyn say Allcraft. Martha, if you are on Facebook there's a fantastic pysanky egg group called Incredible Eggs. In this group you can asked such questions and get great answers.

How can I get an AlCraft lathe…I tried calling them on the phone that is on their website and it’s disconnected and you can’t seem to order one on their website.
Does anyone have one to sell?

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been able to connect with Alcraft. I would suggest a search on egg lathes.

I purchased the lathe you show in the start of this video and the egg will not stay put because ONE side of the lathe will not stay in place. I find this very, very irritating and a waste of funds I despise losing eggs trying to use this thing.
