Scotlands best result in years was against Spain and Gilmour never played. Starting Gilmour last night would have made zero difference.
@@Charlie_Nice Kept the ball and then what?. There was no out ball and then he would have passed it back to the defence and it would have been launched forward and possesion over turned. Gilmour is a good player but he would have been chasing shadows like the rest of them last night. If he is the best player the manager would start him every game.
Since when did Gilmour become prime Luka Modric? LOL. An average player at an average mid-table Brighton side. Would have made no difference against Kroos, Gundogen etc. These guys are levels above.
Why no press from the Scots. Tactics to stand off the German players was never going to work.
Did the same against croatia in the last euros and let Modric dictate the game.
To be honest, they dont have the personnel to press. They needed to play a 451,cram the midfield, and play a low block. Take a chance on the counter or a set piece. We have a player playing at norwich, watford and southampton. They have two or three playing, both for real madrid and bayern munich who were playing on the home ground.
@@brawrecords Pretty sure we pressed against spain and that worked out ok. We arent good enough to defend and let better players dictate the game. If they play through the press then so be it.
Two goals came because McGregor insisted on pressing. If they would have pressed they’d would have still have been picked apart through the gaps. Scotland couldn’t keep the ball and when they did they had no clue as what to do. They are a poor team with evener poorer tactics and mentality.
After the first goal, they should have adjusted and man marked Tony Kroos. At least attempt to cut off Germany's oxygen supply and try and break forward when they recycled possession.

I've got no affiliation to Scotland and couldn't give a fcuk how they get on, but that performance for their travelling fans was a complete disgrace they've had an opportunity to go to a massive tournament and falter like that

There is one positive we can take from last night & that is Ryan Porteous won't be kicking another player I mean ball this Tournament, hopefully ever again! Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw his name in the starting line up, what TF was Clarke thinking??
Felt sorry for Scotland, Clarke doesn’t come across as the most charismatic and inspirational character, a bit like Southgate. I’m worried both countries will get humiliated at this tournament.

We lost to england, france,holland, northern Ireland in test matches and gave away 2 goal lead against Finland there was no way we were gonna get any result against a good germany side reality check here. We cant defend against good opposition i dont see any better results against Switzerland or hungary i can only hope but i dont see it sadly.

We were absolutely awful. By half time it was done. I wanted them to at least put up a fight, we didn’t even do that. Germany looked great, hard not to look that way when the opposition js clueless.

Tony has got it spot on with his analysis of Scotlands performance. Tactics were terrible resulting in too many players doing nothing. I wouldxalso agree with 4-4-2 formation as we need some form of threat up front. Adams and Shanklsnd to start for me. Gunn , McCrorie, Hendrie , Tierney , Robertson, McGinn, McTomenay, Gilmour, Mcgregor , Adams , Shankland.
I was thinking 4-4-2 aswell. or lets say more of a 4-1-2-1-2. Decisions about which CBs, go with guys that play premiership every week, so similar level experience, or what. I would have to dig deeper. CDM is Gilmour.... stability, good hustler/tackler off the ball, and creative to move and if we have 2 up front, be direct with passing skills. McGinn & McTominay in mid midfiled, now.... I'd use Forrest as the wildcard behind the strikers, can be the link to midfield, covers middel and both sides, support link, quick, good in the box, can score... I rate him highly! Adams and Shankland to start. Adams make presence felt in oppo half, with shankland they can play on each other, gives long balls from Gilmour, more chance to come to fruition in creating decent attack. We got Morgan, Conway, and decent midfielders on the bench, like Christie can play the same role as Forest, infact he plays well in that free role, but Forrest is waaay more accurate and sometimes deadly 🙂

Who was mcgregor playing against as him and miginn were holding hands and Ralston everytime he got on the ball panicked and made constant basic error throughout the whole game

I only recognised 3 players in the Scotland starting 11. Where do the rest play football?? The days of Hanson, Souness and Dalglish are long gone. I will be amazed if they reach the next stage. Brilliant fans having a great time. Still, Cmon Scotland.
Are you surprised though? The game in Scotland has been ruined. We used to be a great team in the 60s/70s, look at how many great players and managers were produced then. Different times now. It’s rather upsetting.

Get used to this Scotland, because when you sack Steve Clarke, David Moyes is coming in & he’ll play exactly the same way, I’m a West ham fan & we suffered this for years.
I'm afraid 90% of last night was down to the manager, he absolutely got it wrong in formation and tactics, and even some player selections.. The Scottish lads looked so disorganised and looked completely unbalanced and that's down to the management team. Now give it to the Germans, they played well and have some very good players and let's be honest their team is much better but man they were given a free pass. If Clarke doesn't get his ship in order Scotland are going to be ridiculed out of the tournament. I couldn't watch past 70 mins it was dire.

Gilmour never played aginst Spain and we won.

Nah, this German side isn't average. They beat France and Netherlands recently. Scotland didn't 'make' Germany look like anything. Germany are on a higher level. Though Scotland could have done things to make the score line smaller and the game more competitive.

I can't understand why Scotland didn't sit in really tight for the first half and frustrate the Germans. You're playing the host nation in the first game of the tournament, playing a team that had a training ground bust up during the week and a team who's manager had previous issues with the goalkeeper etc. Frustrate the Germans and come in at half time nil nil and straight away the crowd is on their back and the pressure is on. Then come out and play in the second half.
No doubt it wouldn't have been pretty and people would have gone in on them for being too defensive. But You're playing Germany in Munich, you have to be somewhat pragmatic.

Scotland had an awful day at the same time Germany had an excellent one. But Scotland compounded their poor performance playing with what appeared to be complete confusion. The commentators were seeing the issues but the management and the players did not.
Reality check for Mctominay and Robertson. They are so used to being helped by the referees and VAR when playing in the PL Here you have to prove your true qualities....
I'm not even a liverpool fan but VAR hasnt helped them one bit. Dont really think you watch football with that comment.

We looked like nervous little schoolboys facing a harsh talking to from the headmaster… I cannot see us denting Switzerland. Possibly (if we come out on fire) we could… scrape a draw against Hungary… but it’s unlikely. Just enjoy the party my friends, it’s probably going to be a long time before we get to another major finals 😥

Clearly the guy that phoned in praising Germany has a chip on his shoulder about the fact that England have won nothing in the last 58 years. I don't know what these idiots are on about? There's nothing Scotland could've done to change the inevitable outcome of this game. Germany was not "allowed" to do what they wanted. Scotland simply does not have the player to stop them.
disagree completely, are you saying that there are not players that should closed down quicker, are you saying that they had no chance to push Germans out when entered their half. it is not that they lost but manner of this defeat that put on Clark's tactical set up.
Even if a team has better players, you can set up the team to make it difficult. Clark’s tactics to play 5 players a the the back and to not press the German players was ridiculous because they gave space and time to Kroos and Gundogan to find all the holes in their defence.
When it's eleven against eleven, there are team strategies which should be passed down from the manager to attempt to put your team at an advantage or put the opponent at a disadvantage. 'Inevitable outcome' is a nonsense cop out. Yes, there was a good chance they were going to lose. But you don't just fold up and let the opposition walk over you. You close down space, hold up the ball and release intelligently, control the tempo, disrupt the other side, win set pieces etc.

Got caught with our pants down and we got pumped! First goal the Scotland defence needed to move across one as Ralston had a player on his inside and the defence didn't move across leaving Ralston in no-mans land and it wasn't his fault. keeper had a off day which did not help either. Putting that down to nerves. But the way the Germans pressed the Scoland players, we should have had a answer to that. But we didn't and that was worrying? The issue now is how the Scotland camp reacts. If we start the other games to defensive and play for a low scoreline, thats not for me! Hope Steve Clarke says F*ck it lets be Scotland the Brave and have a go! If we get beat at least we had a go and played like lions. How many manager have the experience to set the team up to stand in the tunnel before a big game for about 20 mins while the opening guff is completed? Very few, because that 20 mins is time for fear and nervousness to creep in, how do you prepare a team to handle the mind games that will go on and on and on?
