The worst part about sindel’s reasoning for her change is that she doesn’t even look evil in mk11. Her eyes don’t even glow. I don’t even think her phantom is in a cutscene.

If she was just good then I would of then bored of her character very fast. I mean yeah, just have her under an unbreakable spell; that would of made everyone happen but evil mom was fine for me... by far not the worst think NRS has done.

Sindel being made a pure villain is the biggest worst moment in Mortal Kombat history it's so disrespectful and they continuing with this incarnation of her.
I’ll personally never agree with this sentiment. I’ve been with MK since back in the Midway early 3D era. Sindel was never a character I cared about. She was rather dull with a pretty generic heroic sacrifice background. Personally I had enough of those. When she was announced a villain with a deeper connection to Shao Kahn, I grew to really like her attitude and relationship with him. It was a bit more interesting, at least for me.
I like evil sinder atleast is not as boring as the old sindel 🤷♂️

One of the things that made her cool was that she looked evil but actually turned out to be good and without her sacrifice, Shao Kahn would have right away taken Earth. 11's version just makes her another generic power hungry villain and once again use Quan Chi as a scapegoat. I know its just an opinion to like the new Sindel but I'm sorry, its an insult to her character. Not just because it makes her the complete opposite of what she's supposed to be, but also completely contradicts everything about her including mk9 which is the start of the "new timeline." Also imagine that Sindel was one of your favorite characters before and everything you liked about her character gets completely changed for literally no reason other than her looks. Its horrible and they should never do this version again or treat another character like this either, especially if its someone really important to the story.

It's such a disrespect to the fans who grew up loving the character and liking her story and it's a disrespect to the character herself I'm not a big Sindel fan but I like what she represented she was a good character there is nothing so jolly about this retcon of her being evil it's tasteless and I didn't like how they rub it in our faces about her being evil I'll never forgive NetherRealm for this they really must've thought Sindel had no fans or think nobody cared about her story change and they really thought wrong.
The fact that kotal went from killing goro’s father and cutting his arms off to being a jober and a dumbass is deeply insulting because his design is very cool too
Kotal was my favorite new character in MK X. I loved his design and his connection to Mayan/Aztec culture. It was a perfect fit for something like Outworld

i understand the revenant part for sindel. making her evil there, it did it to everyone. but after the resurrection. the simple fact that she isnt under shao khan’s influence and she isnt bewitched, but just simply pure evil, makes me absolutely infuriated.
On top of that she is an idiot who trusts Shang tsung who DIES AGAIN in the end. She literally dies 3 times in this timeline 3 TIMES with 0 payoff

The thing is, even her revenant self was less evil than her "true" self in 11, because at least in X, she was HAPPY to be with her DAUGHTER again! And considering that her story in 9 was relatively unchanged from the original, that means that they SPECIFICALLY changed her for 11, making the change even worse because it was done last minute

I agree sure Sindel heel turn looked bad ass, but their was zero buildup into that moment.

She only gets her shit bcoz characters are changed to give a shit about her(shao Kahn never gave a shit about her at all in mk9 and even in mk3 for majority and now all of a sudden you care after how much you’ve seen her as a liability and obstacle for your plans of evil, Sheeva is literally just a stupid fucking fangirl,
all of a sudden despite the fact that she never any attempt to give 2 shots about her at all in the new timeline.
Only really gets wins bcoz of plot convenience (like how all the mainline edenians can somehow take on elder gods and kahns, sindel beating kung lao despite literally beating her murderer along with Shang 2 v 1, against geras who is essentially a timelord but debatable).
She ain’t even that bloody for a villain in aftermath lmao. All the punishment is essentially offscreen and she skins just 2 shokan as far most violence goes.
Sindel js essentially just forced plot convenience that is just there to make the story that long when she was never needed due bs needs of other characters (with the edition of making characters dumb just for the sake of her looking ‘good’ and ruining characters and making their plot lines convuluted)

Shao Kahn getting low-diff'd by Kitana after becoming a simp for Kronika for the totality of vanilla-MK11 was a lot worse, honestly. It's softened by the fact that Aftermath gives him a ton of wins and treats him as unstoppable for a while, but the fact that the most important villain in the franchise got disrespected like that in the first place is still crazy.

Those “wins” are only if you pick as him. It’s not confirmed as you can pick anyone to beat the character who he is opposing. That’s essentially saying he “wins” in headcanon and none of his wins have been confirmed in aftermath or if it’s sindel’s (not like it would do much damage to her since she is plot armored to hell in the NRS timeline but for shao, it’s fucked since he has no wins).
Aftermath shao as of confirmed wins is pretty much a kotal, who got shitted on by everyone and a liu kang (who FGLK purposely made him lose to so he can execute the plan against Shang tsung and if he can beat him now, then why tf did he not do it sooner in the mk2 section of mk9? They can’t even do powerscaling right on the villains side lmao).
Aftermath just does as much as damage to his character in base story, the shared chapter system literally disguises to make it feel he is getting respected
No matter what people say, Zombie Liu Kang with the chains and stuff was amazing! The story and atmosphere around Liu Kang's death was legendary. And at least it was consistent with the story.. unlike a certain edenian queen turned Thirsty, evil monster.
And he even got a bit of redemption in the end of Armageddon

How TRUELY naive I was because they INSISTED MK Special Forces was cannon; it's not, it sucks, get OVER yourself Midway, but they pulled the crap they did with Sindel and continue to double down.😳 STOP ruining things Midway/NRS. If we don't LIKE something stop trying to cram it down our throats. Learn from your mistakes and MOVE on!

Sindel being retcon to being always evil takes the cake of being the worse and horrible moment in MK history they really went there completely changing a legacy character backstory and thought it was great and it wasn't I hope NRS learn from this going forward.

Sindel’s retcon hurts even more BECAUSE she looks evil. Everyone upon first look of Sindel would say “yes, that’s a villain”. The dark purple, the grey and black hair, the menacing look. It makes the fact that Sindel is actually a loving and caring mother all the better and is a perfect example of “don’t judge a book by its cover.”
But no evil looking people must be evil according to Netherrealm soooo…
Sindel being totally rewritten just because she looks evil is by far the stupidest thing ever in Mortal Kombat history.
Also Tanya's look was changed in the 3d era; after MK4/Gold, because she wasn't evil-looking enough. I didn't like her other appearances until MKX and even than they went with pure white eyes to make her look more evil. Originally she didn't look evil. She was cute/HAWT, but had a PURE evil nature. She was a rose with thorns and THAT'S when she was at her best. They ruined her after that.
I didn't like the change of Skarlet story from being a creation of Shao Kahn to being a orphan abandoned on the streets of Outworld and taken in by Shao Kahn.
I feel like she still couldve been both but the developers didnt have a brain.
She could’ve easily been both and that’s the worse part, have the orphan backstory come first but make more violent and bloodlusted and then the mk9 backstory can come later as a way to serve her evil motive

The Netherrealm era games writing inconsistencies are honestly my biggest gripes.
The one that gets me riled up is how despite Scorpion being clearly defined as a Spectre (who retains his freewill) for decades up until MK 2011 was seemingly just reduced to another revenant being controlled by Quan Chi at the start of MKX.
It really bothers me they did that to this day lol
Scorpion's story is similar to the one from MK Conquest. He's under a curse that gives him his powers, but in MKX/11 has learned to overcome it. Essentially he's been changed from Ghost Rider to Ryu and the struggles with the dark Hado.
Really? I just assumed he was still loyal to Quan Chi and Sonya just made a mistake assuming he was under control.
I don't think Scorpion was intended to be portrayed as a revenant in MKX. It may have appeared that way on the surface, but I think he was still just a specter. Notice how he doesn't look like any of the revenants? I just think he was "bewitched" by Quan Chi, which explains why he acted similar to the revenants. When Quan Chi was defeated in his lair, it freed him from Quan Chi's influence.
There are a lot of dumb things that piss me off. But for me, it's mostly how much they butchered Kotal into oblivion. Never have I ever witnessed a developer like Netherrealm create a really dope character like Kotal Kahn with a great story, design, abilities, and voice (Yes, his voice is something I actually love) and make me hate him every inch, every fucking second he gets on the screen.
- Being punked by Kano in the dumbest way possible
- Getting kicked off a building by Rain like an asshole
- Losing to fucking Kung Jin like an asshole
- Being a dumbass and assuming D'Vorah works with Earthrealm and invading Earthrealm
- Trying to appease Shinnok like an asshole
- Genocide the Tarkatans (Even though I understand why)
- Losing to Jade, D'Vorah, Jacqui, Sheeva, getting his back broken and decapitated by Shao Kahn
- (Worst of all) Not using his many abilities in cutscenes and fights as he seems to forget that he can fucking TELEPORT and other types of shit!
And the list could go on, but fucking hell, let me stop right here. Netherrealm needs to stop trying to make me hate Kotal, I fucking love him, but my God!

You cant expect story and gameplay consistency from the guys that made jhonny and cassie green aura an one time plot armor power while using it constantly ingame or made striker go on and win against mileena, ermac,etc one after another (an lets not talk about sektors invisibility)
One of my most hated moments was from the Sindel massacre. Every character she does kill for the most part gets a pretty brutal death, but if you watch, sub-zero (cyber) literally just gets an uppercut and dies. not a hyper intense mega uppercut, just a regular uppercut kills him, meanwhile jax gets a heel in the neck, jade gets disembowled, smoke gets his neck snapped, etc.
And Don't Forget About Stryker

Actually, the section on MK3's roster isn't correct. John Tobias made a thread a few years ago explaining the decision to cut so many characters, and it literally came down to popularity. They built a counter into the arcade releases of MK1 and 2 that showed how often each character was picked, and that directly influenced cutting characters like Baraka, Sonya, Cage, and Scorpion. Mind you, this was based off data they got from the machines they could actually get to, so pretty much limited to the Chicagoland area. AKA: Chicago killed Scorpion
Kano and Sonya Blade have always been the most unpopular characters in the first games.
Even with that I HIGHLY doubt that Scorpion wasn't popular among players. He's like 50% of MK players go-to character.

@@ultraboombean It's been a minute since I wrote this comment, and upon further reflection there might be another, less pretty reason for the ninjas being cut, that being Midway's falling out with several actors from the first two games over contract disputes. Daniel Pesina played Johnny and the ninjas, and they're all cut in 3 vanilla save Unmasked Sub Zero, who's played by John Turk. The ninjas would be recast in UMK3, but Johnny would only be recast in MK Trilogy. Could've been a combination of popularity + losing actors + tight production schedules
The character assassination of Sindel, not knowing what to do with Kabal ever, the kombat kids, “he must win”, Kronika, the waste of Dark Raiden, MK11 and Aftermath, MK9, EVERY SINGLE MOVIE AFTER 95, just about all the shows, D’Vorah, Kotal Kahn, There’s been a lot of bad 😂

Tbh, my worst moment has to be the how badly Kotal was handled. He's a Kahn ffs. Yet he jobs to the Kombat kids in X, gets put in a wheelchair by the end of the main 11 story and just fucking DIES in Aftermath, no wonder Shao was surprised to see him as the Kahn when the whole time thing happened. Absolutely clowned on.

Not after mk9. They had the ingredients to cook up a good story (the ideas introduced in some of the mk9 ladder endings, such as Ermac being King Jerrod, Jade's ending, and Cyrax's ending), but unfortunately, the chefs (writers) don't know how to cook.
@@cosmicghost811 That Cyrax MK9 ending is meh. In the original (best) timeline; Sub-Zero reprograms Cyrax, while Jax and Sonya help restore his soul. In return he joins the OWIA, helps scout Outworld, and frees Nitara's home realm from Outworld. He even single-handedly defeated Moloch and Drahmin, not even Scorpion could do that outside of the Netherealm (where Scorpion grew in power).
Or, and here's a thought, they knew they were going to reboot the franchise, so they decided to just go nuts and do things they normally couldn't. When you know a series is ending or getting rebooted, you can take more freedoms with what you do before that happens.

Sindel being retconned is NRS basically saying "they're too stupid to understand a nuanced and detailed character, so let's dumb her down."
In Aftermath, I feel like Shang did something to Sindel to make her evil. He was being super sketchy during her revival. Wouldn’t be surprised if he put her under a spell.

I don't why couldn't they say that the evil sindel is from another timeline. MK 11 story is about time travel so wouldn't make sense that by going through time cause a negative effect on certain characters?
Hanzo's death in MK11 made me hate the entire story.
The moment Sindel killed almost the whole cast is even worse now when you take into account that most of those characters become these worthless revenant servants to Quan chi who ultimately just die anyway in the end making that moment even more in bad taste.
I honestly skip that cutscene altogether now if I see it because it just boils my blood every time
Being a Mortal Kombat fan since 1992, the retcon of sindel in the new continuity is beyond infuriating. I remember her being a hero and being a complete badass fighting for her Realm alongside her daughter and their allies. I can appreciate changing certain characters to fit certain narratives, but sometimes you just have to leave certain things alone and this was one of them

I never understood why Bi-Han just didn’t say “hey man I didn’t slaughter your clan. I mean I hate you true, but there’s a misunderstanding here” I doubt scorpion would have killed him, and who knows how the story would have went. The whole cyber initiative thing, with subzero, tundra, and smoke they could have stopped it.

If I remember correctly, I think the main character of Mortal Kombat: Conquest was actually Kung Lao, as in, The Great Kung Lao. I remember watching the show when it originally aired on Monday nights, every week after WCW Monday Nitro. Wrestling and Mortal Kombat were and still are my two favorite things. For reference, I'll be 37 in July, so I'm old enough to have watched this when it originally aired in the late 90s, early 2000s.
You're right. The main character was Kung Lao. Siro and Taja were the other main characters that Kung Lao that I believe he was training and living with. They were like that generations Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade.
Yeah, Siro was the third lead at best. But he was dull as dishwater, that part's true enough.
My exact problems with the Snow Blind ending wasn't that they went there. Is that they didn't use it to fix the mess they were living in. Not to mention the condition Sub-Zero is in at the end.

The Sindel retcon kind of annoyed me. She's such a generic villain now. Evil just for evils sake. MK2 movie is bad, but still had Sonya and Mileena fighting in the mud so not a total failure. :P
The worst moment in my opinion, which you listed, was the Sindel in MK11 thing. It's a plot hole big enough to drive a truck through.
Could argue the introduction of time travel in the opening scene of MK9 was the worst thing to happen to MK. Not only did it make the original timeline obsolete, it gave the devs the opportunity to make a ton of dumb retcons that have ruined most characters and MK history. It also lead to Kronika and MK11, which made things 1000 times worst. At least the game ended on by erasing the NRS timeline. However; time travel still remains so there is no point in getting invested in these characters or the lore any more because it could be erased or retconned at any time (either by time travel or by the incompetent writers who don't know or care about MK lore).
You kinda forgot Cassie Cage defeating Shinnok, I’m biased towards hating Cassie but I know a lot of people didn’t like that. Like SonicHaXD said “green glowy powers is the answer to defeating the devil?” 😂

I guess it's in the vein of "characters dying in their own endings" but dang, Jacqui's ending in MK11 was harsh as heck. Her changing the timeline creates a paradox that erases herself.
And no one else has this problem! Kung Lao upends his ancestor's defeat and it all goes great for him! Heck, Jax remakes the timeline again and again to ensure there's no slavery/racism, and it all goes great for him.
Jax's should of been him either destroying the hourglass or creating a world where he and Jaqui don't have to fight anymore.

I would have thought that including Shao Kahn getting his ass kicked by Kitana (twice!) would be a no-brainer for a list like this. Everyone in the fanbase hated seeing that; it completely insulted his character and was one of the worst ways to handle the most iconic villain in the franchise. They might've made up for it by giving him a whole run of incredible wins in Aftermath, but we haven't forgotten about it.
I kinda disagree here, but I see where you're coming from, like I do think Kitana could beat him and it's definitely satisfying to see Kitana get some revenge on Kahn for what he did to her and her family (which even then is kinda ruined with her uncharacteristically and stupidly not killing him ), but Kitana looks a little too strong in it like Kahn was on the same level as Kollector. The main issue Is Mk 11 took away Shao Kahn's mystique of being this cunning evil unstoppable monster that almost nobody but a select few could beat, to which Mk 11 puts him a henchmen role and teats him like a big dumb brute with some decisions he makes like him trusting Shang Tsung in Aftermath, and (in the context of Sindel's retcon) believing Quan Chi that Sindel put a barrier around Earthrealm to stop him from invading despite supposedly joining him willingly and being as evil as he is. Even with the wins he got in Aftermath, he still doesn't look good cause Fire God Liu pretty much let him win and have those wins (which definitely hurts Liu too with how he sacrificed his friends). Fortunately though Shao Kahn has gotten back on his feet from that mess with Battle of the realms (despite that films other issues )and onslaught with him getting his unstoppable mystique with him beating everybody in the film except Liu and his brain back with with him being ready for Kitana to turn on him, and already having a backup plan in preparation for Shinnok's betrayal.

@@abongilezolanipeterson5588 True the power scaling was off quite a bit in Mk 11, but Kitana is a strong and wise warrior , so who's to say she couldn't beat Shao Kahn at all. Another thing being in Mk Armageddon, Sindel was established to be Shao Kahn's arch nemesis, so going off that Sindel likely could beat Shao Kahn, and Kitana did defeat Sindel to free her from Shao Kahn's control.
The fact that he thought Siro was the main character of Conquest and not the Great King Lao is amazing.
Sindel being retconed, Kotal being disrespected, Hanzo destroying the chance for Liu Kang and the other to be brought back to life and I can go on and on but I won’t do it.
Sindel made evil just for the sake of it is pure absurdity. Definitively the worst part for me. Silver medal for mk11 ninja masks. Ok, maybe it's just a me-thing, but it really pissed me off. They reproduced at perfection assassins' outfits in mk11, those of MK2 and those of mk3...and they made a mess with ninjas ' oufits. No umk3 outfits, just MK1/2. And why the masks are all different? What 's the point? Even more absurd if you consider that they gave identical masks to Shang 's ninja transformations.
Single-handedly, the worst thing about Legecy was making Quan Chi a shape-shifter and stealing the most famous kill in MK from Bi Han (Scorpion's real murderer).
It's doubly-agregious because not only did Scorpion's Revenge copy it, but MK11 tries to imply Bi Han was "innocent" too.
And they thought the guy who wrote this rubbish should write the MK2021 live action movie. Is there any wonder it sucked?!

Kitana casually defeating Shao Kahn was so poorly handled. It really felt like pre Aftermath MK11 was trying its hardest to undermine him and show that he was never actually that strong. I understand Kitana beating him would be satisfying for her story, but the way they did it felt so forced and underserved. And it's not like it even happened at a significant point like the beginning or towards the end of the story, it's just treated as any normal fight. Regardless of the writers' opinions on Shao Kahn, they should at least acknowledge his importance to this franchise.

I binged MK onquest about a year ago after rediscovering it on HBO Max. It was awful, I expected it to be awful, but it still had some legit fun MK moments in it and sorta captured the spirit of the OG film, just don't expect excellent Koreography.

Same man I'm glad that fire god Liu Kang erased the entire timeline which I hope it'll be a perfect set up for MK12 and goes back to its roots from the original timeline of Mortal Kombat.
Discontinuing the MK X comics and rendering those events as non-canon was a poor decision. Kotal had an actual character development story there and it gave people a reason to want obscure characters like Reiko and Havik to return. The biggest reason why this was a bad decision is because these comics were supposed to fill in the missing blanks during the period between MK 9 and X, they even referenced some moments from the comics in character introductions like Kotal being a god and a new Outworld law named after Reiko.
I actually enjoyed Conquest. The show had some great fights (Reptile vs Reprile, Shang Tsung vs Quan Chi, Sub-Zero vs Scorpion, Rain vs Kung Lao), Shao Khan was a beast, The Best live action Quan Chi, and VORPAX.
Came here to say this, I was a 90s kid so I followed this show every week with some of my friends, great memories, take a upvote sir 👍
Also I think Vorpax is probably a precursor to Devoriah. If not she's probably at LEAST a Kytynn.
I actually loved the battle damage idea in Mortal Kombat 9, I wish they kept it going but advanced it and made it look better, it really could be a unique looking mechanic for them today given how bloody and gory the series is.
I remember seeing that in... it was either Deadly Alliance or Deception, I thought it was a great touch
@@RobCrowley85 most definitely, it gives the players something to care about whether they like seeing the battle damaged versions of the characters or keeping them as clean as possible if they played right they could do so, it also added a sense of realism to these characters getting the hell beaten out of them.
I genuinely have a special place in my heart for Mortal Kombat Conquest. It was incredibly cheesy, but it was also unironically the thing that got me into Martial Arts. Also, Zero was only one of the main characters of the show. The others being Kung Lao, and Taja
I grew up on the original port of MK3, it was my introduction into Mortal Kombat. So I had no idea who scorpion was, who kitana was, none of them. It was only until after I saw the first movie, and began to play some of the later games like deception I was introduced to a majority of the characters

That definitely is logical and would make sense, but NRS said Sindel's always been evil and is the real lore (which of course fans know is nonsense).

(I would also add it hurts Kronika's character but she's beyond repair in my opinion).

Dude, MK conquest was about the great Kung Lao 500 years prior first tournament, and he was the main character. There was some weird stuff like scorpion from future, and noob saibot but oveall there was a spirit of MK there.

D'vora is one of the worst moments in Mortal Kombat. She's like a DeviantArt OC marie sue pet character. She shows up, starts owning everyone and inserts herself into past events.

Kronika existing and has restarted the mk universe before MK9 many times and confirms one of the things I hate the most which is all of the characters we know and love have never had free will and were all basically robots.
Not to mention how it feels like nothing matters and any character can be retconned at anytime. Honestly I hope they just undo that and just say Either Kronika was created by the Elder God's as a safeguard to stop anything like Shao Kahn's victory in Armageddon happening again so the realms won't be merged to revive the One Being or she was only a pawn of the One Being in an attempt to get free and he just made her think she's been around for centuries and that happened. Like how can we take she's done this before and won seriously when she's so dumb she causes her own demise by bringing back normal Raiden and Liu, being so weak even Kano can beat her, and being so lame they need to bring in Shang Tsung to take over as the main villain (even then I hope they undo Aftermath due to it's flaws as well like Liu for no reason and the obvious one of Sindel's retcon).

Agree on almost all of your picks ... and 'bout the last one : SnowBlind is truly an awesome Mk movie (something you can watch over & over again without getting sick of it) ... pretty much everything was set so good in it ... BUT the ending ? It was so dumb I was like WTF ! It's sad that the movie ended like that , cuz I believe they could actually use the idea of more* new timelines and the hourglass itsef to make more movies like this one (that just gave us all a new MK exprience and a whole new vibe of this series)

You're telling me that an elder God, a literal undead machine, 2 - 3 of earth finest assassins, earthrealm champion, 2 capable fighters, the battle princess of Outworld and 2 Umgadis and more, failed to defeat this alternate version of Sindel, who killed Empress Sindel, and then she manages to lose to Mileena?
I know that scene was a reference to mk9 Sindel's macsacre but at least can't they make it a little bit more logical?

For me the worst part of that web series/movie trailer was that there was either a TON of people or just a very vocal minority, who kept heaping praise on it for being "realistic". It was one of the most visceral moments of disdain I've ever had for popular opinion. I almost felt like people were trying to gaslight me into thinking it was good, but it was missing the soul of MK for me.
To me any time where king Jerrod is mention getting killed off in the comics the cartoon and the games
Mk Vs Dc was my start to the game series so it will forever hold a special place in my heart🥱🤷🏾

What i want in this timeline:
1. Mileena redemption arc - a storyline where Kitana and Mileena end up joining forces because, at the end of the day, it wasn't Mileena's fault that they made her the way she is.
2. Kotal Kahn and Jade wedding - I feel like those two deserve a happy ending to their story and a big would be the best.
3. Sindel's original story arc - everyone agrees that MK11 Sindel has the worst story line ever. We love and miss heroic Sindel. We want her back.
4. Cetrion - I want her back. She's probably not gonna come back as a playable character but I love her so much, I hope she comes back.
5. D'Vorah gone - I hate her so much. She should be deleted permanently.
Only one I don't really agree on is Kotal and Jade getting married, cause that relationship was pretty forced and came out of nowhere (on a personal note I'd like to see Kung Lao with Jade instead). Besides, Liu and Kitana are the ones who need to get married already. Everything else though 100% , especially the real Sindel retuning and Mileena being redeemed so she can finally be apart of a family that would love her.

Both characters are kinda similar where they both have huge confidence (with Lao sometimes a little too much) and they'd both do anything for their best friend (plus like I said their friendship with Liu and Kitana makes the likelihood of them seeing each other alot likely).

Kung lao is in no way serious and Jade is very serious so as we know opposites attract.
