That St George vs Norths match was one of a batch of double header matches during the ANZAC Day long weekend in 1977. 3 sets of double header matches were played over 3 days on Friday, Saturday & Sunday all at the SCG, on the ANZAC Day long weekend in 1977. The following year in 1978 there were 2 sets of triple header matches over 2 days over the ANZAC Day weekend at the SCG as well.
It is a shame the Leagathon concept didn't last on the yearly calendar . Yep on this double header on Sunday, 24th April, 1977 at the SCG , 21,051 fans turned out to watch Parramatta Eels 18 depose the Western Suburbs Magpies 10 . Don McKinnon made his First Grade debut for North Sydney on this day when the Bears played St George for a Dragons victory 25-8
@@kurtflahavin5994 Too many clubs complained about losing their home-ground advantage. South Sydney and Eastern Suburbs used the SCG as a home ground sometimes, and other teams felt that they got an unfair advantage at the so-called "neutral" venue.
A great year in League. Good to see Norths and big winger Mick Healey scoring a cracker.

@@robbrown7343 I like that Leagueathon name. Disappointing it didn't continue in the long-term.
