A great old show that actually discussed Rugby league...not like today's ch9 Footy show circus. Nice to see the old SCG hill...
The Footy Show is more like The Brady Bunch Variety Hour these days.....occasionally they actually talk about the games but its become a joke. The shows on Fox are much better.
AFL and Rugby Footy Shows
They are cheap attempts at comedy .... and seemingly refuse to discuss the FOOTBALL
To this day, I still enjoy listening to the panel discuss the football of their time. The discussion about spitefulness and violence in the game during the 70s and 80s was a major topic in the game during that era.
Legend Rex Mossop and my favourite alltime centre Steve Rogers awesome
Wow! Blokes in the media actually talking about footy. Clarko also wrote about the game and not the what "former first grader was seen eating sushi at Westfields" sort of crap. Proper journalism!
@JG-bw6lu and yet here you are watching a clip of a 40 year old tv show of people talking about rugby league
Great to see Alan Clarkson there too, great journo who left us yesterday, vale Clarko
I used to read his match reports in the Sydney Morning Herald. He seems a decent sort of individual compared to the bourgeois shithead twits he was working for, the Fairfax media. But I'm long since over the sports hype crap even by the time of this. I was living down the road from the SCG, cashed up, and didn't even pis on any League Test going in '79 - or any other year.
The great thing about youtube is that something will for no reason or prompted by a discussion as happened to me today on a radio show Rex's name was mentioned and that is why I am here to remember.
Now I remember why this was must-see viewing for me as a kid on Sunday mornings. Real conversation with a TV camera happening to televise it.
Interesting listening to some of the comments and how they relate to today's game, particularly the elbow in the tackle (Tino from the Gold Coast) and the slowing down the ruck.
Rex Mossop said things go in cycles and just because the 1979 Lions were crap doesn't mean that the GB side will always be. While he's right that things tend to go in cycles, I doubt anyone back in 1979 realised that 38 years later (2017) the Poms would STILL be crap. While the Poms of today would probably smoke the 1979 Aussies (despite the Kangaroos having greats like Eadie, Cronin, Rogers, Boyd, Peponis, Price etc), it would only be superior fitness that would get them over the line.
@J G it's not important here so piss offfffffff
@J G obsessed 😂😂😂
Alan Clarkson , Noel Kelly , Steve Rogers, Rex Mossop , Col Pierce and Ferris Ashton.
All deceased now.
"A punch in the nose never hurt anyone" : )
Let me punch you in the nose and tell me if it doesn’t hurt
@@gregwhalan9606 Not my words
Wasn't sure that it was Noel Kelly until he uttered that, then I was certain. ;)
A slower less skill full ball moving pack hahaha how good are the days when these boys played and commentated telling the cold hard truth
I loved Stevie rogers and am still a sharks fan
Great player steve rogers
The only one of these guys that's still alive is Noel Kelly.
Vale Noel Kelly
Not anymore.
Noel Kelly is the only man on that panel alive today.
Not anymore.
They're all gone now, a golden age of rugby league characters.
Come back 😢
Rex is 51 years old here. He always seemed like a product of a by gone era, even then.
Episode of 'On the Buses'
Sounds like they have a little vodka in that orange juice (hehe). Steve rogers looks a bit stunned. Fancy blamming the poms for the elbows, bringing it to Australia. The game has been going on since the 40's hasnt it.This was recorded in 79 correct me if i am wrong and all the crap started in 78 with the western suburbs roy masters telling his players to go and maim some manly player.Hence the fibros and the silvertails dvd thats out today. I dont understand these guys reasoning.
This has been a long downturn in the cycle
6:12 or a stiff arm to the jaw?…
Sludge looked innocent lol.
He was - he was an elite player who focussed on playing within the rules. Imagine how much better he could have played without the knees in the back, late and high hits, etc.
I wonder what it is they are drinking here. It looks like orange juice with mint leaves in it.
It was Patra orange juice
@@jugheadsrule Oh okay. Probably sponsors of the show.
@@stupendous1068 Yep, they used to give away a bottle, I think it was 2 litres, of Patra oj and a hamper to the player who won the pass the ball competition every show
Real footy show not like the garbage today
I find this corner very controv ...
The irony. Steve Rogers commenting about foul play, unfortunately his great career ended prematurely by a cheap shot from Bugden that broke his jaw. Grubby coward.
Rex Mossop looked more like Julian Clary dressed like that.
Rex Mossop getting shown up by Julian Clarey was all-time hahaha
Hahaha the games more feminine now hahahaha
Vale
Unfortunately Great Britain started going down hill from 1975 - Current with the odd glimpse fliar the only time I've seen Great Britain show any real passion and coming close to Beating Australia in a Series is 1988-1994. They need Sam Burgess and James Graham need to get under current lot of Great Britain/England players next time they play the Kiwis and the Kangaroos if they want to win a series and possible World cup because the Kangaroos the Kiwis are the Benchmark in Rugby league. Yes they can bet France and they should be betting alot the other Pacific nations even thou they will make it a Physical game and a close one very rarely a Cricket score
Bring back the biff!!!🤕
