We often hear people say start the downswing with your hips, but what we should be doing instead is thinking about our feet. In this video, we talk about why we should think about the feet, and how we should use them!!!

Finally a teacher who knows what he's talking about.
First time I watched this video was about a year ago. I didn’t know who Larry was. Amongst all the UA-cam golf instructors I watched, Larry didn’t come across as an experienced and trustworthy type. And quickly I disregard it. And it was my own mistake. I came across Larry’s channel again last month. And I paid attention this time. Oh boy, after a week of practice “Swing with my feet”, things changed. Quickly. I’m a 12 handicapper. I never felt the swing this way before. I have never strike the ball this pure, this far, and this straight ever. So thank you Larry for making the difference in my game. I will do two things now. Unsubscribe from all other UA-cam golf instructors. And keep on putting in the practice from your easy and simple tips. Keep up the good work mate.
You know how you say you have those “ah-ha” moments? This was my “ah-ha” moment. What you just showed is a complete different feet movement and weight transfer feeling in the golf swing! Great tip and many thanks Larry!

Larry you do realize as you age your body has internal conversations “You wanna do what?” “I don’t think so” and usually the next day it’s “See I told ya”. I’m going give it a go despite the communication however. Thanks Larry definitely appreciate the work you put into your channel! 👍
A fuller hip turn should actually be easier on your body than the “fake” turn with restricted hips.

Well explained Larry, such a key part of the golf swing and important to understand how the feet play a crucial role. More golfers need to pay attention to this area and they would definitely see some solid improvement in their golf scores.

Nice explanation keys to the real role the feet need to play, and actual movement of the legs-hips in the downswing. The only key swing thought is pressuring the right foot then open the knees, and the rest just occurs naturally... Brilliant

Excellent video! (Kind of late to the party) The focus always seems to be on the hip swing for lower body… but in actuality it appears to “start” with the feet. I guess that’s why we have “spikes” on our shoes? I’m binge watching all your videos while I think about the upcoming season. Subscribed.

Such a great drill to get the feeling of using the ground power and not your hips. I have been taking lessons for years and no instructor gave this great tip. Well done.
Wish the teaching was this evolved when I first took instruction. Seemed like it was not as accurate and articulated as You Larry. Thanks for sharing and not using a click bate title. I am looking for how to fix the hip rotation , and you delivered.
This has helped me a TON! I’m only 24 and have started to get a ton of lower back pain while golfing. I did this and it’s all but gone and my ball striking is better. I’m getting 1/2 to 1 club longer. Only bad thing is I’m slicing especially on my driver now (not so much on irons but still there)
removing backpain is much more important than removing a slice, now you can focus on keeping what you've done and working on removing the slice =)
I did that few years ago and hit driver so far, but after keep watching other youtubers and forgot this drill then lost feeling. Thanks for your remind.

Despite all the on-line coaching I've engaged with, and the advances I've made in my swing this year, this drill is a real revelation thanks Larry. It turns out I've been 'pushing' into the ground by twisting my trail knee in and down and that meant I'm shifting my weight toward the target too soon. The drill also showed that I'm anchoring my weight on the ball of my right foot in the transition move rather than keeping it in the heel. During the drill the front of my foot remained in place while the heel slipped out away from me. This is a great drill for exposing real vs feel. All I have to do now is unlearn what I spent this past 6 months learning :( but thanks :)

Very very good. You're right everyone is telling to "rotate" but you are actually demontrating that turning without pushing is futile, it make so much sense and it explain well how to use the ground. One comment here is that by using the ground like that how do you prevent yourself from creating swaying on the lead side?

Wow this might be a breakthrough with my swing! I’ve noticed now that I am trying to activate my body through the swing but just like you showed I’m just turning my hips and not using the ground, just saw it in my slow mo’s. Definitely going to give this a try at the range tomorrow!

So glad I gave this another look and try...finally got this programed into the downswing mapping....at first it felt like the old rub the belly and tap the top of head trickery...feels better with each session. Very good video, for me thought, to get my right foot to twist clockwise I have to keep my club arms unit to stay up there, if I let the arms club unit drop then my right foot will turn counterclockwise. thank you very good drill

Awesome insight. Thank you for this lesson! I'm restructuring my swing from 15 years ago(just got back into it at the beginning of this summer) and this video came at the perfect time for me and makes SO MUCH SENSE. Straight ball flight only happens with me when I feel it in my feet and this is a wonderful drill for me to utilize and make it a permanent par of my swing.
Richard Gibson I’m the same, but twenty years ago. Back then, I was a powerful hitter of the ball. Videos like this set us on the correct path to recapture our form.
@@robertpage4991 Absolutely! I'm not so much looking for more power but being able to have access to this youtube channel, while I rebuild and simplify my swing, has made it so much more consistent amd easy to replicate.
That’s so reassuring. I too took a 20 year break because of career. I got back into it 2 years ago when I retired. My swing has slowed considerably but I’m finally taking the time to learn how to properly put a swing together
Great video! Tried this in a round yesterday with great results. Almost unreal how quick the right glute will react to the rotational tq of the right foot and get the hips moving.

Ground reaction! Our only leverage for movement is the ground. Feet training becomes so important.

This is because we have always been taught to transfer our weight to start the downswing hence spinning onto the front foot and getting no push of the trailing foot.

How about on the backswing? Could you adapt the same principle with the lead foot to stop the knee kicking in too much and trigger hip rotation?

The toe (of my trail foot) is the one moving towards the target. How do you get the toe to move AWAY from the target if my hips are turning towards the target?
Today before watching this video I was doing that thought/motion in my foot to start my swing, kind of like screwing my foot into the ground as the club went back.. Is that too early if so why?
this should not be happening in the backswing, not a good way to move =)
