Brady: I've been in a good mood
86: let me fix that for you

How did you accurately breakdown Shin in just couple seconds of his appearance? wtf
EDIT: Damn your discussion with grief is literally the whole theme of the first and mainly second part of the anime(first 3 volumes). The steps forward doesn't end there of course. Essentially the entire novel series is heavily character driven by tackling grief and purpose. It's a great series. You also definitely hit the nail on its head that his 'responsibility and honoring' is also a burden and caging him in.

That's why this show is so damn good!! The writers know just the exact amount of character to show and how much restraint to show, and they truly understand the psychology of their characters to portray it in such an accurate and nuanced way. It's amazing to see a show that is just so confident in its storytelling that it trusts the viewer to pick up on these things.

Notice the difference between the para raid devices. The 86 have essentially ear tags like you would tag livestock. The handlers para raids are detatchable more human and comfortable like a necklace.

The class room exposition worked for me specifically because it was in a class room. Presumably some of those students didn't know that information because of all the propaganda. Also Lena is the best.

Its always fascinating seeing what you pull out from what the story is portraying.
Like with Episode 1, we're told a lot about what the Republic's social construct of Shin is and even his expressions and voice lean to uncaring, but that is the furthest thing from reality. Shin carving out and keeping mementos of all his fallen comrades isn't something someone uncaring or detached would do. He throws himself into the thick of combat against the most powerful enemies, not just because he's skilled but he puts the greatest burden on himself. Shin is the one who takes it upon himself to bear the trauma of putting down his friends when they're unable to continue. We also know that the Republic doesn't care about them. We see the limited supplies for their mechs and even the only food their given is synthetic rations. So the 86 have to scavenge for supplies and repurpose fallen units. They have to search, grow, and catch the main portions of their food.
It also serves as a great compare and contrast with Lena. They both have so much compassion, but Lena is criticized for hers while Shin's has earned him a reputation and respect among his comrades. Shin is looking out for those under his command like Lena, but Shin has destroyed (according to the Republic) other Handlers because as we see, some of them will just lead the 86 to their deaths with zero regard. Lena as well tries her best to keep her squad alive but never really tried connecting as she is now. So we see Shin constantly gauging her abilities and intentions. He sees Lena is willing to listen to his experience as well as tactically sound while also be willing to pull rank and reprimand him for his shortcomings while trying to aspire him to more.
They are both people who take their role incredibly seriously. But that devotion has kind of alienated both of them. We see Shin constantly at a distance from others as his role has left a rift. The rest of the 86 are his friends. They respect and trust him with their lives, but there is that distance in almost every scene. Lena is the same, but somehow even more isolated. She's constantly having to fight off the narrative of her nation, as well as everyone else in her life. Her best friend and her uncle are the only people who somewhat see things her way, with her friend trying to help her relax and her uncle covering for her when she is disruptive.
Its easy to see why Lena feels a connection with them because the 86 are people her age living her truth. Lena also comes from a military and noble family, with great respect and admiration of her father. Its not hard to see why Lena would connect with Shin, who is a soldier that's "got his shit together." and is highly competent but is also willing to hear her out and take her assistance.
Glad to catch these live and commenting to boost the algorithms.

I'd argue that the lecture scene does tell us some new things. We learn that Lena underestimated the rot in her nation while get to see just how bad and widespread it is.

I watched the vod on twitch (couldn't watch it live) and I gotta say I really love your reactions, some of the best I've seen. You have very interesting things to say, focus on small details that are easy to miss for many people, make very good predictions (not always 100% spot on, but surprisingly close), and are also funny and charismatic when appropiate. Really enjoying the ride and can't wait to see you get to the final episodes.

Sawano Hiroyuki is a master of anime soundtracks. The atmosphere of the anime for which he composes music is different. When it comes to Sawano, it's hard for the anime to be that bad. While writing the music, the man is so sincere, so intelligent and so intimate with the story of the anime that it is impossible not to be impressed. He made a separate soundtrack for each episode for this anime. I have never encountered this ability in anyone else. Also, this is a good video for the episode 2. I liked it.

Damn, 7 minutes in and you're already grasping Shin's entire situation in the show very well. I wish you do get to the second cour fast, because these all come together in a magnificent build up for the iconic ending. Shin is a very broken person, it's actually very sad to see. And us viewers gets to experience how he really views things slowly coming out throughout the show, especially on the later part of the second cour.

Hi. I'm from Argentina and also a pshycologist and psychoanalist. We can't assume in terms of grief or any pshycological situation that our patients have the "skills" that they need. You can't missinformed like that. Is really important to understand that each human been have their own minds and backgrounds and unfortunely not all of them have the mental resources to deal with traumas, loses, grief, mental disorders and, basically, life. Grief is really something hard to work as a proffesional, and hard to live as a pacient and as a human but not everyone can work it out in the best way possible. We need to be there to help them but not by saying that ALL of them have the "skills" to deall with it because is not true, Brady.

My favorite first anime episode is from To Your Eternity, such a roller coaster of emotions. I never felt so attached to a nameless character in a 20 smth minute episode. Oh, I was terrified as well, but that's probably because I own a dog and read too much in the horror genre.

1:11:00 I find it very curious that you mentioned specifically "right wing" conspiracy theories. I personally think the very same thing can be said of people that are anti-conspiracy.
About the pizza gate specifically, I do not know about the whole conspiracy, but as someone who was at that time in a very unhealthy place with my p*rn addiction, I checked the accounts listed. Most went private, some were emptied of any content, but by looking through them long enough, I found some of them that were open and I saw myself cp and even rcp that were on them. After everything went viral and their accounts were given for public knowledge. So at least that part wasn't just a theory.

    • @Shinigami00Azael
      @Shinigami00Azael 5 місяців тому

I thought about it quite a lot and I think it is very ironic. Because literally what Lena said would be treated as a conspiracy theory. For a brainwash society, every attempt to bring them to truth would be a conspiracy theory. Holocaust for an average german during ww2 would be conspiracy theory. Don't you think it is quite interesting how not only our cognitive abilities, but also our bieses are causing us to believe some total nonsense (like flat earth or young earth creationism) or not believe something that could be easily proven (for a sake of argument I will use holocaust to not debate any actual unproven theories)?

  • @Iangamebr
