This may sound like a silly question to be asking given how many championships the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Williams have won, but I genuinely believe there is a case to be made for Red Bull Racing being the most successful F1 team ever.

People may not realise or want to admit it, but RBR is among the most influential teams of the past decade. While young talent has been brought into championship teams before RBR took over Jag, signing on Sebastian Vettel and particularly Max Verstappen to the Milton Keynes outfit have been the greatest push for F1 teams to look younger. Even Ferrari, which traditionally have looked for established drivers and world champions to field the team, are currently running their youngest lineup ever. Its probably thanks to RBR and its junior programme that nowadays most of the well known drivers in lower categories such as Oscar Piastri or Liam Lawson are affliated with an F1 team, the current F2 championship leader Drugovich stands out as he is completely unaffiliated.

Nope, Mercedes has been more efficient, they came in in 2010 sat in the mid field till 2014 and hasn’t lost a constructors championship yet. Red Bull started in 2005 winning its first championship in 2010 winning 3 more and then got smashed when the turbo hybrids came along. I feel Because of Mercedes’ partnership with Mclaren during the 2000s and the constantly shifting of teams names during the 2010s people forget that Mercedes as a team has only been on the grid for 12 years.

Mercedes AMG wasn’t built from the old Mercedes team and none of the old personnel was involved in its creation. It’s not like Ferrari or McLaren that have been a singular entity since they’re founding.
I usually distinguish the two when talking about them both by calling the modern team Mercedes AMG or just AMG and call the old team just Mercedes.

Everything about Redbull just fits. They always advertise with extreme sports and F1 fits right in that catalogue. And even the way they conduct their bussiness in F1 fits the image of the brand. Their driver is known for his aggressive overtakes, their team principle is known for being a cut-throat person, their pit-wall is known for taking risks with their race strategy, their pit crew is the only crew in the sport that has achieved sub 1.9 second pitstops, even their cars are known for being difficult to handle but very fast. It just fits the image of the brand, it's perfect advertising for RedBull.

    David Coulthard

I've been a huge Red Bull fan since 2013. This team is just legendary. They come into the sport buying out a failing backmarker team and in a short few years they turn into a championship force. If we're talking success as a broad term, I don't think it's that straight forward. Bruce McLaren wanted a race team that could become very successful in and out of F1 (and go on to build road cars), while Enzo Ferrari wanted to build the most recognisable brand in motorsport. Both their teams achieved their goals. In terms of statistics though, I actually calculated the race starts to race win ratio quite a while ago. I can't remember the details properly (and this was before the 2022 season started) but I think it was Mercedes (48%), Brawn GP (47%), Red Bull (27%), Ferrari (24%), and McLaren (20%). Yes, Mercedes has a higher win ratio than Brawn.
What I find really amazing is the fact that Mercedes literally has more podiums than race starts, a feat which Red Bull, Ferrari and even Brawn GP haven't achieved. They literally have a 105% (or that was the case when I checked last) podium to race start ratio. Love them or hate them, Mercedes-AMG stands as the most successful F1 team in stats when you consider ratios (which eliminates the advantage that Ferrari, McLaren and Williams have in their extra years). They even stand second in title wins (8/12 constructor's titles, and 9/14 driver's titles including Fangio in 1954 and 1955). The only team ahead of them is Brawn GP.

They basically get paid to advertise their brand for the next 3 years, just by two sponsorships alone they pay the budget for the car and upgrades. Throw in the smaller sponsors and they have pretty much all expenses covered. It is already quite surprising how RedBull have been dominating despite Honda officially gone, and having to battle the engine giants - Mercedes and Ferrari. I have a feeling midway in the season it might bite back, when their engine finally starts to have troubles thats beyond RedBulls Intel and experience.

And a highly competitve with giants such as Ferrari and Mercedes on the pitch who by the way have great hybrid technology both on and off the racing Motorsports. The Intelligence it requires is exhaustive. A full commitment from the engine manufacture would certainly make a lot of difference. Even with Hondas full commitment in the last 3 years , they were still just about enough to remain competitive. Now especially Mercedes finally having figured out a major part of their problem, its going to be tougher to remain competitive. Also should the engine fail or degrade miserably, Honda no longer have the obligation to commit.

Great Video but I do disagree. Even though they aren't my favourite Team in F1. Ferrari are the most successful not only by the numbers but as a business. There is no F1 without Ferrari. And they are the only team that can say that. Plus they also earn the most money every year regardless of how they do due to the ridiculous amount of money they receive each year from sponsorship, commercially and from brand revenue.

I'm a massive red bull fan and as much as I want to agree with you I cant. Saying their the best team because they won a race every year but Mercedes has won 8 constructors and 7 drivers championships just doesn't make sense. But are they successful? The way I like to look at it is percentage wise, because honestly Ferrari has been in the sport for 71 years (since the beginning) and Red bull has only been here for 17 years. You cant compare their totals in my opinion, but you can compare their percentage's. Ferrari has won 16 constructors and 15 drivers championships in 72 years. This gives a drivers win percentage of 21,13% and a constructors win percentage of 22.54%. Red Bull have won 5 drivers and 4 constructors championships in 16 years. This gives a percentage of 31.25% and 25%. With this logic Red bull is a better team on average. Also Mercedes have 15 total entries with 9 drivers and 8 constructors championships. This gives them the monstruous averages of 60% and 53.33% . That's insane!
You could argue that this isn't valid because maintaining high performance over 15 or 17 years is a lot easier than maintaining it over 71. And to this I say... yes, absolutely. This argument has flaws! By this measurement of performance Brawn GP would be the best team ever with a 100% average for both. However I think its interesting to show how insane both red bull and Mercedes have been to the modern era. And overall I just hope for close racing. I thing the one thing we can learn from Schumacher, Hamilton and Vettel's years is that its never fun if there's absolute dominance
Sorry for the rant... Just thought its interesting. And I know this video is more focused on the way red bull market and their influence on the sport in total. And yeah that's also very good. Hell they have a video of them changing tires in zero-G!!! Their marketing is insane!

Saying Red Bull has been competitive every year since 2009 is just inaccurate. If you’re considering this year a “bad year” for Mercedes than surely 2015 was a bad year for Red Bull; in fact 2015 was downright atrocious if Mercedes’ performance this year can be considered poor. 7th and 8th in the drivers standings, only three podiums the whole year with an average finishing position around 8th place and scoring a quarter of the points the constructors champion scored. That season was on par with Ferrari’s disastrous 2020 season which was their worst in thirty years.
