One of the greatest evolutions of a tennis game was this man. From slow, blocky, old school swings to a NEO federer with perfect modern swings and beautiful movement. What an absolute legend and talent of the sport.

The difference between the GOAT and Djokovic is that Federer understands that the game has to be fun for the audience too. You can't just play boring tennis and win titles for yourself and complain about people not liking you. You want their affection, you have to deserve it and earn it. It's not something you can demand
Federer and Djokovic played 19 tournament finals and Federer couldn't even win a measly 1/3 of them. Federer is so far from the actual GOAT that he's not even in the conversation. Even the baldy Spaniard is ahead of him.

Fed was a frontrunner but lacking in the mental chops when tougher opposition was about or the pressure was on. Federer played 10 tournament finals across his career with a deciding set tie-break. He won.... 1 out of the 10...
Yes, different also in form development was his backhand, serve, and backhand overhead, although the foundation is there, and still high shot making accuracy when in balance! I remember reading when in youth, he worked on strengthening his forearm for the serve, and his first main coach, Aussie Peter Carter (who sadly passed less than 2 years after this by an accident) helped Federer develop his backhand, so it’s invaluable to get to see this!! He didn’t just immediately become the amazing unparalleled dominant No. 1 of tennis 4.5 consecutive years with full and perfect full versatility of all main tennis shots especially led first by the forehand, but early on he had a simpler foundational form to calibrate and optimize later through hard work!
It reminds me of Sampras , Federer definitely adjusted his game through his career. Man I wish I were a bandwagon fan, I enjoyed rooting against him but he was really a joy to watch. Plus he was classy and respectful!

lol, his footwork is sooooooo a lazy 18 year old. He always talked about wishing he'd taken things seriously at a younger age and I see why. The fact that he could win matches with this footwork speaks to some next level hand eye coordination

But Kevin Curran, his finalist at 17yo was #8 in the world. And he was no Federer, and never felled a giant of Sampras's stature at Wimby, tho Lendl was no slacker of course. And Djokovic was at the tail end of his career too and visibly not at his best, despite reaching the Final twice, but that says more about the field when Carlos won, altho his wins were laudable for sure. So, not sure what your point is. Chang won a Slam too at 17. We know about Becker & Chang. We'll see where Carlos ends up. Doubt very much he'll end up anywhere close to Federer, altho like Fed, he may take a while to achieve his best.

Curran actually had an incredible serve: in 1983 he ousted Connors from Wimbledon with 33 aces in the one match. 33 aces against the best returner of serve in the game.
I think it was the opposite haha, no aura, pimples, ugly technique in some shots, still solid win even making many mistakes, he was able to make 3 winners in a row and turn the game in his favor out of nowhere.
Fed is a phony and all he wanted was to sell more running shoes and watches..No fight, weak backhand, weak mentally, sqaush game..Thank god nadal and novak came along to save tennis from the sqaush player
I think this is the first time I see Justin Gimelstob plays. And the first time I saw Fedster played(on TV) was 2001 when he beat Sampras at Wimbledon.
