+Mary C. I certainly hope not. It was pretty hard to miss considering it was called "Pauleen's Kitchen" and had an older, pale-white woman with silver-white hair and a Southern accent who dumped a pile of sugar in her food and made a racist reference. It would've been literally unbelievable if you _hadn't_ noticed it.
Loriana Mesia honestly, I think we shouldn't be so harsh towards misinformed people. It feels like you need to be educated on every single thing in the entire world or else corporate America will capitalize off of you. Some people just can't be arsed. It sounds tiring.
Brown sugar has a caramel-ish taste to it. Other than that, I don't really know the difference. Brown sugar is unrefined and therefore healthier, is what I've heard.
I've noticed that nutrition labels always point out and highlight carbs, fats, calories, and sodium, but you have to look into the fine print on the back of the box for sugar unless it's specifically a low-sugar product. The daily allowance of added sugar is only about 25 grams, but a single serving of juice, soda, or a protein bar usually tops that off. I don't know why people aren't more concerned about it.
dragontatoes that is... not true at all lol. I'm sorry, but dude, if you go to any Nutrition Facts label, there is a sugar tab just around the Fats, Protein and Carbs section in the middle that'll clearly tell you the net weight amount and daily recommended percentage contained in the product.
Sugar is on the label, but it's harder to find. Fats and such are usually bolded or bigger, so you have to read everything (sometimes slowly) to find how many grams of sugar there is.
Manek Iridius I'm looking at a food label right now and the sugar label is tiny and hard to read, exactly as I have described. So obviously it's just different depending on what kind of soda/food you get.
I always get a kick out of food packages that claim it's a fat-free food. Let's all just ignore the fact that it has twelve kilos of sugar in it and will literally make your pancreas explode. Perfectly healthy!
I had a friend who was eating twizzlers and was told by her aunt "those will make you fat!" She argued that they wouldn't and pointed to the "fat free food" on the package. Nevermind that you're eating sugar tubes.
The cancer levels are OFF THE CHARTS. "Refined sugar is a problem you don't think about and so is shifting the blame to fat" = "you should be stuffing your face with pork rinds at all times" apparently and therefore the video is "wrong"
My grandparents are dietians so my mom grew up in the 80s & 90s knowing that fat (in the right quantity) is good for you and that sugar is the root of obesity in America. So glad this information is being spread!
I love you, Adam. You gave me back a bit of hope in humanity, and really made my day. Thank you for spending so much effort on actually spreading knowledge.
Joshua Nuss Your counterargument doesn't even counter what they're saying in the video. They're claiming that sugar makes people fat, not that it's the cause of heart disease. He never claimed anything about heart disease, that was a small segment in a video about obesity. Also, the "baseless claims" are backed by the sources that appear in the top corner whenever he says something.
Agent Fuse he creates this false narrative about science popularity contests, and makes it seem like the sugar industry is the only one lobbying. Do you have any idea how much the meat and dairy industries find biased research? They even fund environmental organizations so they won’t tell people that animal agriculture is the largest contributor to global destruction. Our brains run on glucose, and we need it to function. Now obviously processed sugar is bad but natural sugars in fruit paired with fiber allow the body to slowly release that sugar rather than a sugar spike and crash that you get from processed sugar. Just watch Vegan Gains’ video on this video by Adam. Just because there are sources doesn’t mean the video is credible.
Ders JuanPablo You don't remember the low fat food craze of the 80s and 90s? There were Low Fat varieties of every popular food back then. They've been disappearing over the past two decades because the public has finally turned against the sugar industry.
I am 100% addicted to sugar and literally experiences withdrawal symptoms, once upon a time I kicked sugar to the curb. Weight fell off of me because my diet truly wasn't awful save for the fact I was eating three desserts a day. I've dealt with other addictions that are typically more recognizable and sugar is psychologically identical in my experience. Its just harder to quit because its literally everywhere.
Sugar isn’t what makes you fat btw, that’s a lie too. It all comes down to energy balance, calories in calories out. The correlation between cutting out sugar and weight loss is due to the fact that you have just put a restriction on a lot of the foods you use to eat and by doing so you have cut down a huge portion of your daily energy intake thus relating in weight loss. Nothing to do with the sugar.
@@Quantumz9 I mean, yeah pretty much. I can't control myself around sugar, I cut it out, I lost weight. It isn't rocket science or new information that I lost weight because I was eating fewer calories. In my case, the fact that it was sugar did have a psychological impact, and I'd appreciate it if you don't reply with fucking basic information assuming i'm a moron who doesn't know.
@@Quantumz9 It has a little to do with the sugar. Some foods have more sugar than others, of course. Diet isn't as simple as "calories in vs calories out" because you DO need to be getting vitamins and minerals, and fiber. If you eat less, you may be taking in less calories, but if you're not taking in enough nutrients you're going to have a problem. You need to eat good, high nutrient, low sugar/calorie/energy foods. But completely cutting sugar from your diet isn't good either. There are plenty of healthy foods that contain sugar, such as apples and MOST other fruits. Sugar isn't evil. Excess sugar is evil.
People here are trying so desperately to one up Adam and this video. Just accept that there are good fats in things like walnuts, almonds, olives, and salmon and stop eating so much processed sugar. The End.
You can get fat on good fat too. In the end, the studies clearly mark that people who are and remain below unhealthy BMIs eat very low fat and high (complex) carbs. Both the refined sugars and the fat increase weight gain in general. Not saying sugar is good, but its a lot easier to have a healthy weight with low fat. Fat is also important, but everything in proportion: gotta keep that fat low.
That's hard seeing as everything prepackaged is laced with tons of processed sugars! They pay billions to market to people healthy alternative because "fat is the problem" not sugar. It's called manipulation through images and sounds!
Alejandro Gangotena That could be due to the simple fact that fat is very calorie dense, not a property of the absence of fat itself. As a result, it would make sense that they stay lighter, because they are simply eating less calories. I think the real problem with the low fat obsession is that it tricks people. They think they are getting a low calorie product, so they think they can eat more than they could of the regular version. Problem is, the sugar used to flavor it brings those calories right back up, so you end up eating more calories than you otherwise would have.
It's also worth keeping in mind that the chemical make up of fat in the human body is Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen (C55H10406 on average). Most of your fat leaves your body via your breath due to multiple metabolic processes in the form of Vapor and Carbon Dioxide. Most waste H is flushed via urine, however traces can be found in water vapor within your breath. In regards to CO2, most of the stored carbon in your body not part of an integral part of your anatomy is stored in fat, and a majority of those carbon atoms are lost from the aforementioned exhalation. When your caloric intake is below the required threshold for normal metabolic functions, fat stores are accessed to supplement additional energy requirements. This brief explanation does not take into account moving into Ketosis, potential acidosis if you are victim of a few medical conditions, and other varying genetic defects that would disallow normal metabolic functions, however for all but the most miniscule amount of the population, this information holds true. I do hope if not from this video, then via another source, that this information becomes widely public knowledge at some point in the near future. The correlation between carb intake (type of carb is very important, simple vs complex, and its amount ingested and with what other foods) and negative health effects is very obvious. Sugar (and other carbs in general) in and of themselves are not bad, and is the preferred method of ATP energy conversion, however when supplemented in excess produces a toxic effect on the body. Take it from a recently diagnosed type 1 diabetic, who has to understand his own metabolic functions during low carb intake or risk falling into a coma. Sources for the above informations are easily found in recently published scientific journals, or self experimentation (if you're allergic to learning via text). Sorry for the book.
I don't think everyone is quite understand the message of this video. He never said "sugar is bad." There are tons of minerals, proteins, vitamins, blah blah in various amount of food and most of them play a relatively important role in human diet. The message of this video was "TOO much sugar is bad and it's the sugar industry's fault." In reality, fat doesn't equal a fat person. Fat is what our body burns for energy. Carbs, too, but fat does the job better. When we eat too much fat, yeah it's bad. Too much of anything is bad. Y'all can have your cake and eat it too, just don't eat the whole damn cake. That's all this video is!
Glitch Steam it's really sad when you that people only ever deal with extreme. there is always a happy middle ground where you can enjoy yourself as long as you don't enjoy yourself too much I think they call it discipline or self-restraints the words have been lost to time
The body doesn't use fat for energy, it only uses it for hormonal balance.... your only healthy of energy is glucose which can be from carbohydrates or proteins not fat... using fat as energy source literally kills the brain, no wonder people on keto or paleo diet are retarded.
Ryan Curnow That's because they aren't meant to be toys. They were invented for stimming or self-stimulation which is something that people with ADHD and autism typically do (but people who don't have either can still stim). The popularisation of fidget spinners lowered the prices and made it easier for the people they were invented for to get access to them
+clefairy The Buff Saturated fat isn't bad for you, either. Read the recent research. Also, the biggest, the Framingham study; which told us in 1999 that fats were okay to eat, but since it didn't agree with what the researchers wanted it to say, they simply ignored it. Instead, they keep on doing more and more studies, trying to prove that saturated fats are the problem. And they keep coming up empty. Why? Because their hypothesis that fat causes heart attacks, is wrong. +S. R. Vest Most yogurts are flavored with tons of sugar, too. Few eat plain yogurt. They flavor it with sugary stuff.
No one's telling you you can't have your steak and yogurt, but just know that high fat, high protein animal based foods will increase the risk for cardiovascular and other chronic diseases. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just trying to save your life.
+Tyler Palazzo They've been trying to prove that for 70 years, and haven't been able to. Yet, they keep doing more and more studies, desperately trying to prove their hypothesis. Dietary intake of fats have no correlation to heart disease. Or, how do you explain the huge Indian vegetarian population with high incidence of heart disease? That's the kind of thing that Ancel Keyes decided to leave out of his study, because it didn't fit with his hypothesis.
D.E.B. B it's actually been quite proven that the more certain countries, such as India, increase in overall intake in animal proteins such as eggs and dairy, their levels of chronic disease rise almost completely parallel. Check out the China Study if you're curious to learn more, because they've definitely looked into a lot of this sort.
Clyde, actually most obese people *do* believe that fats cause obesity. Either that, or genetics. Most extremely healthy people I know focus on reducing sugar intake instead.
Yes, processed sugar makes you fat, but sugars from fruits or starches don't. Why? Because the sugars in whole foods are not as concentrated as 1 tsp of processed sugar... Not every type of sugar is bad, just like not every type of fat is bad. One must be careful not to generalise it and take it out of context!
Also, fruit is full of fiber that makes you feel full faster. It's hard to overeat sugar when you're munching on apples, but once you turn them into apple juice...
First off, calm down. Second off, your body needs sugar to survive just like it needs fat and carbs (I'm aware fructose and glucose are types of carbs. I'm putting sugar in its own category for explanation purposes). The issue is people consume too much of those nutrients and they get them from the wrong places (i.e. getting fat from fried foods instead of nuts, sugar from sweets instead of fruits and carbs from processed flour instead of whole grains).
+Centrioless Well... carbs are only useful for energy. We can obtain energy from fat or protein as well. If we don't consume any carbs, we can convert fat into ketones. We can also convert protein into glucose anyways. - Fats are used to synthesize cholesterol and hormones. Cholesterol repairs damaged endothelial cells; it's not as bad as everybody thinks it is. - Protein is used to synthesize pretty much everything! They're broken down into amino acids which can be used to make a variety of cells in the body. -Carbs... They're only used for quick energy... So theoretically, carbs are in fact worthless.
Artificial sweeteners are bad. They have a negative effect on insulin sensitivity as well as increasing the body's acidity (which makes the body gain weight in fat).
+icopyninja Citation needed. C0nc0rdance made a good video about the lies spread about artificial sweeteners. And he mentioned that there were no problems with insulin, quite the opposite. Uhm, body acidity was a scam by health gurus.
During Lock down I cut out a lot of sugar (not on purpose but because I was staying home and not going out for snacks) and started walking to get out of the house and lost a ton of weight.

It was pretty hard to miss considering it was called "Pauleen's Kitchen" and had an older, pale-white woman with silver-white hair and a Southern accent who dumped a pile of sugar in her food and made a racist reference.
Manek Iridius
I'm looking at a food label right now and the sugar label is tiny and hard to read, exactly as I have described.
So obviously it's just different depending on what kind of soda/food you get.
25g carbohydrate = 100Kcal. 25g fat= 225Kcal.
Protein bars, really? There are a bunch of different kinds you know.
Also, drinks that are below 5 calories are allowed to claim they’re 0 calories. ALWAYS READ THE LABELS!
Exactly: also things can say no sugar added but have sugar in them. It just means they didn't add any more sugar.

Cookie The Third This video is all lies!!! Baseless claims and no evidence. Cholesterol and saturated fat lead to heart disease :((
Joshua Nuss Your counterargument doesn't even counter what they're saying in the video.
Vegan gains absolutely destroyed this retarded video with real science

3:39 I don't feel so good Mr Conover
What a way to sugar-coat that Adam!

People here are trying so desperately to one up Adam and this video. Just accept that there are good fats in things like walnuts, almonds, olives, and salmon and stop eating so much processed sugar. The End.
lennycrew3 UHUH
You can get fat on good fat too.
In the end, the studies clearly mark that people who are and remain below unhealthy BMIs eat very low fat and high (complex) carbs. Both the refined sugars and the fat increase weight gain in general.
Not saying sugar is good, but its a lot easier to have a healthy weight with low fat. Fat is also important, but everything in proportion: gotta keep that fat low.
lennycrew3 That's not the point Adam was making. He didn't distinguish between fats.

The message of this video was "TOO much sugar is bad and it's the sugar industry's fault."
In reality, fat doesn't equal a fat person. Fat is what our body burns for energy. Carbs, too, but fat does the job better. When we eat too much fat, yeah it's bad. Too much of anything is bad.
Y'all can have your cake and eat it too, just don't eat the whole damn cake. That's all this video is!
Thank you! At least someone else understands that.
Glitch Steam it's really sad when you that people only ever deal with extreme. there is always a happy middle ground where you can enjoy yourself as long as you don't enjoy yourself too much I think they call it discipline or self-restraints the words have been lost to time
It's hard to not find sugar in things you eat so it's easy to over do it.

The popularisation of fidget spinners lowered the prices and made it easier for the people they were invented for to get access to them
I KNEW IT!!!!! Just let me have my steak and full fat yogurt. Damn.
S.R. Vest, in the same meal? Sounds interesting.
The root cause of the problem is that people desperately want an easy, "one simple trick" way to lose weight/be healthy

Ezekiel Goldberg 😂😂 oh boy, you knw abt biochem but you also say carb are worthless? You arent that much different from those 1980's ppl 😂😂
+Centrioless
Well... carbs are only useful for energy.
No wonder you bitches are skinny fat, its all about calorie intake. You dont magically increase weight if you eat less than you burn.
