  • Here is a very easy exercise that will help tone. It can also be used to work on improvisation, phrasing, and intonation.

    Would you consider doing an embouchure video? I'm currently having difficulties with my embouchure and I love your sound and the concept you teach in this video. I'm sure many others would find such a video a blessing. thank you for your time :).

    That song you played was beautiful! It's so frustrating...one second I get the perfect breath, embrochure, and placement then the rest of the time I can't figure out what I did to get it and it's a mess!

    I am in a marching band, and I'm a freshman so it was my first season. We have three seniors who are leaving us (who are really good), and two Jr's, (one of which is leaving us for Drum Corps), and 3 Sophomores, (one of which is leaving to be a drum major). I'm very used to playing the third part, since there are plenty on first and seconds, but since we have our 4 best players leaving, I will have to be on second, maybe first part. I cannot play above a high c on command, and I'm terrible at sight reading, and often times, I'll try to play a note and it'll come out as the note higher. Do you have any tips on improving note range, overall Air support/ tone quality or sight reading? Thanks!

      I forgot to mention, there are 5 freshman including myself who will be sophomores next season, and two of us, (myself and my friend), are capable of playing at a high-ish range on command.

      There are so many factors that make a great trumpet player. Find a good trumpet teacher. Watch youtube videos of good trumpet players. Spend a majority of your practice on fundamentals. Practice every day. High notes are over-rated.

    When I first started on the euphonium I had the very bad habit of tensing up. Learning to keep and use relaxed posture and practicing long tone exercises to improve my lung capacity and tone quality and developed a mellow tone

    Many comments are probably students trying to get better. The best thing you could do is ask your band directors. Watching videos help, but band directors can tell you what you’re doing wrong. They may seem scary, but as soon as you break the ice with them, they’re like your parents.

    There is no "trick" that will get you a good sound. It simply takes years of practice. Get yourself an arbans book and a good teacher. Also, your approach in this video is way to general. More trumpet specific advice would help much more. Also, free buzzing works for some people and others don't like it. Everyone needs to find what works for them because we are all different.

      Correct. Daily practice of fundamentals, etudes, and solos combined with participation in high quality ensembles is the key to good tone. This is simply one exercise that I like to do to continue to improve on my tone.

    i play on the side of my mouth because i have one tooth that is a tad out of place (i don’t want to get braces cause that’ll make my tone go to shit lol and my teeth rly aren’t that bad). i would say that if you can, play on the center of your mouth but playing on the side isn’t bad! the top trumpet player in our school plays on the side of her mouth.

    Hi, I recently got a trumpet with a 7c mouthpiece for Christmas. I want to learn the trumpet to try and audition for a drum corps my senior year. I'm a freshmen now, and I've been playing the clarinet. It's been difficult for me to create a perfect embouchure for the trumpet, and I have trouble with tone and certain notes (sometimes my notes either sound ugly, or I play a note way higher than what I was going for). Could anyone here please give me tips to become a better player on the trumpet? Thank you.

      I would find a private trumpet teacher outside of school that excels on the trumpet.

    too many trumpet players use a to big mouthpiece i can tell by listen to the airy sound they have their lips doesn't fit correctly in the cupp because the cup is to big

      I never thought of that so thank you so much!! I always felt like my sound was very airy unless I just put a ton of air into the horn and it still didn’t sound very good so I guess I’m gonna go and try a couple of other mouth pieces now

    I want to differentiate sound vs tone. What do you think is the difference? I would argue with trumpet its less about tone, but more about sound. It's also more about singing through the horn and using your air properly.

    • @kuntel1
      @kuntel1 7 років тому +1

      Owen Wu you can have sound (wich is pretty much a noise comming out of your horn) and it be the right note. But tone is playing the note with an verry accurate to perfect note. Preferably with out ur note sounding like its choking or your note bairly comming out. Nice/excellent tone is haveing a clear smooth note come out of your instrument with no un-even sound with in your playing.

  • @owenwu7995
    @owenwu7995 7 років тому +1

    If you check out some of the recordings on my channel, its not just about tone. Its about articulation, musicality, rythm and more. Good playing is a combination of these things.

    • @tylernettestad
      @tylernettestad  7 років тому +3

      Rhythm for sure. Many notes are missed because of bad time. Keeping good time will ensure more accurate notes.
