    Hello FramesTM, You are so right about how a camera feel. It is one thing that I tell people on me workshops, or any one who asks how to choose their first camera. I say for get all the reviews and go to their local camera store, skip all the sales man and pickup two or three different camera make, see how they feel in the hand and remember to check the menus as if you can not under stand the menus it just make thing that much harder. My I love my Nikons from the old film days up to me Z9. I did not like my D750 and got ride of it in months. I also love the Hasselblad X system simple the best camera in the hand I have ever used and owed. I have both the X1D and X2D but saying that they are not action or wildlife cameras that why I still love Nikon.

    When I grab my D850 the feel is on point plus I added the grip with better batteries. Very comfortable for 8 hours and heavy duty as I shoot in the rain.
    I'm hoping the Z8 brings the exact same when I move to mirrorless. I feel like Sony is to small and would be very distracting after an hour.

    Hi Frames, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think your video is not merely about handling, but more about the entire ergonomics and build as well. While I don't have any of the bodies you showed here, I believe that I have some comparable ones from Sony and Nikon (as of this day, I still don't use Canon mirrorless). I have an A7III and a Z7II, the former is really comfortable to hold for shooting and the buttons are very well-placed all over with a good level of customization. I see how I can shoot with it for a whole day without having any inconvenience. The latter, that is the Z7II, makes me feel tension in my hand when I'm holding it. I tried to hold it in different ways to feel more comfortable, I even bought a grip so it feels better, but unfortunately nothing worked. It's the only body I have ever used, where comfort in handling does not come naturally, but I need to 'develop and learn' how to get comfortable with it. It was quite the disappointment. Yesterday, I bought a Lumix S1R, and man, the difference in handling is a day and night! Beautiful design, great build quality, superior ergonomics... and the list goes on! It'll be my favorite new body DSLR or mirrorless until I try something better! You should try to get your hands on one, I'm sure you'll love it👍

    As you mention that you liked more customizable buttons - nice video btw - I never felt that and so I wondered how come. That's not critical of you. When you think so, that's fine. The question to me was, is there a solution or workaround. What about adding a battery grip? I did not Read The Fine (*) Manuals on this - it may add nothing except size and weight.
    Now Nikon released a movie grip too. That thing does not add power but probably adds a bit of power consumption instead.
    Advertised for the Z 9, primarily, it is also compatible with Z 6ii, Z 7ii.
    This adds several buttons, but again may not give what you are looking for. That said, if you have a movie cage with an Arri compatible grip mount, then this adds a very nice handle. Talk about "handling" - Nikon could have mirrored this grip into a left handed version, maybe.
    (*) My British friends imply the F in RTFM to mean something else, but don't want to tell me what it is. Apparently it is not for gentlemen.

    Any discussion about camera build quality always reminds me of Don McCullin's Nikon F stopped a Khmer Rouge AK47 bullet in Cambodia, saving his life.
    While there are plenty of cameras survived from drops and abuses, but one can often depend on the flagship models being the toughest. So, it isn't an exceptional account when I heard about photographers continued to shoot with their Canon 1D series DSLR in a downpour for hours, while the 5D series already failed.
    As far as best handling cameras, I think that depends on each individual. Just look at how difficult people from different countries/cultures may have in finding the right sizes of clothing in another country.
    Then there are minor points don't get mentioned often, such as left and right eye/hand dominant, issues resulting from long term (decades instead of years) usages, lens combination relationship, etc. That's how to kick the tires in my book after 45 years on this journey.

    I haven't tried the Fuji X-T and Z9 bodies, but the grips of the Olympus E-M1ii and E-M1X are better than that of the Canon R6, Sony A7iv, and the Nikon Z6, imo. The widest Olympus lenses don't sacrifice space for fingers from each hand, and the grip of the E-M1X fills the hand in the same way that the Canon 5D does. The grip of the E-M1ii is the right shape despite being shorter than that of the E-M1x. And of course, the camera bodies feel weighty and are renowned for their resistance to the elements.

      Very interesting. Thank you for this insight. How are these sensors for well lit street photography at night?

    • @RyougiVector
      @RyougiVector Рік тому +1

      @@FramesTM if you're exposing for what's lit, I think you'll find the images usable, even at ISO 6400. Exact tolerance for luminescence noise or ISO grain is individual, of course, but it's not too bad if you have to use it. If you can find RAWs online of such shots, that would help you get a better sense of how the output fits into your workflow and style, in terms of how you push the file around.

    A pretty unbiased view Frames but it certainly a topic that will always be debated. I agree that the build quality and build of the Nikon Z's are superior to the other big brands, the Sony lacking and Canon in between. Where l disagree is the ergonomics when l got the R6 it made me feel like my Z6 was a 10 year old camera. The Z9 is the best built camera out there for sure but it is simply too big and heavy for a lot of people. I use my R6 for wildlife and daytime and the Z6 for my night photography which is about 40% of my work. Since l use the R6 about 60% of the time and Z6 40% l got a fair idea how they compare and l would use the R6 100% of the time as the layout, feel and ergos are far superior for me anyway but at night the RF L lenses don't compare to the Z lenses my RF night shots are often unusable very disappointing so l lucky l kept the Z6 but honestly that is the only reason l use the Z6 is the lenses.

    • @FramesTM
      @FramesTM  Рік тому

      Oh interesting. Good you kept the Nikon. In fact the more I use multiple brands the more I realise that it makes sense to use different brands considering different situations. Yes, it is expensive and not everyone can afford it. I see the Nikon line shaping out to be an incredible system. Used the Z9 with latest firmware and it just blew my mind despite having the R5 as an option to shoot with

    Frames opinions are valid but can vary among individuals and are up for debate. After hearing discussions about build quality a couple of years ago I set out to investigate. I looked up warranty claim rates for all the major brands and all of them were in the 5-6% range, except for Fuji which was over 7%. What that told me was no 1 company builds a better camera than the other brands. The next set of numbers I have are from using my A9 and 200-600 for wildlife for the last 4 years, in rain , in snow, strapped to my back while riding a motorcycle off-road. When I see something worth shooting I hit the switch and start shooting, I almost always get 9 out of 10 in usable focus. I am also a big fan of Steve Perry who has been a long time Nikon shooter, if you go watch his A-1 review ua-cam.com/video/fnN2IhsYK_M/v-deo.html , pay attention at 9 minutes in when he compares the ruggedness to his Canon and Nikon, you will be surprised

      I have dropped a Sony from knee height. It’s fine. But doesn’t change my feeling that I fear rough handling my Sony far more than I do my Nikons, because it’s my money I have spent on it. No gift from any of these brands
