Received my new Hornby black 5, 45157 "The Glasgow Highlander" last week. Looks absolutely fab. No glue marks or any issues with this model. Well done Hornby. Keep up the good work. Yes if I'd put it under a microscope and studied it for a while, I'd fine some thing wrong. But I've got better things to do with my life and I'm really not that sad 😂
😂😂😂love it. Yes I think that's what it must come down to...like people are desperately looking for faults....they are models at the end of the day and for absolute 💯 they wouldn't want to be paying the price then 😂😂😂
Thank you for this excellent video, which is another blast of fresh air in stark contrast to another I no longer watch who seems to have the most awful bad luck with virtually everything Hornby purchased.😢 Please keep going, the lady modellers on You Tube are all doing a brilliant job, with the emphasis on enjoyment of the hobby.
Welcome back. Nice one Jen and congratulations adopting a new Black 5. She sure does look great. I have seen a few reviews that were quite critical of the quality, assembly and running but your example looks great. Slow running tended to show possible loco to tender connectivity problems on DC but your new one did very well at slow speeds on the curves. One day I'll get off my bottom and design and build a layout but I have little time at the moment. One thing for sure it will have a Black 5 on it assuming that you don't purchase every one of them in every single scale. Many thanks for sharing.
Thank you ❤️ it's difficult I know to find time. hopefully you do start one day as I can't promise there will be any 5's left if you leave it too long 😂😂
Thank you for sharing this superb model. I personally think the critics have become too fastidious. Lets not forget its a mass produced product and most of my experience e with Hornby products is that they represent good manufacturing quality. Any way it great to get a dose of your wicked smile, enjoy your loco!!
It’s great to see you with a new locomotive. I’ve just been buying sets and locomotives recently to store. Undecided whether to build another layout or build a new one. Thank you for a lovely video.
If you love it, that is all that matters. Good for you. I’m glad you are having fun with the hobby and the real steam engines. I am glad I am one of your subscribers. I get to experience everything through your adventures. Thank you.
Mouldy Raspberry has just done a review of his Glasgow Highlander. The lamps and the gap between the cab and tender which weren't to his personal taste, but no running issues with his either. Glad you got a good one too.
Great to see you back Jen..fantastiche…recieved mine the other week ..absolutely wonderful model …& so pleased with it ..can’t wait for Glasgow Yomanary …to be picked up from grimy times …both getting a bit of the Steve treatment to the Riley twins looks ..kinda ex works finish …to many people knit picking Enjoy Jen .its just a fantastiche model & looks a perfect 5 to me & to you l bet …simply Awesome ..😊❤️❤️😊X
❤️thank you ❤️ glad you are happy with yours too. Sad news on Steve closing the shop! Where do you think you will use then? As I know he is doing some weathering from home for a while but I wonder how long for.
Very good. What you need is to DCC them with Hornbys Bluetooth sound decoders. It’ll add a whole new dimension that you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
The valve gear mechanism is really quite simple, made the casting patterns many years ago for Comet models Black 5 Caprotti, it has not got the rotating valve shaft, so all we are looking at is a standard GWR valve gear loco, in operation, looks ok, but not worth the huge price these things are now..
Unfortunately the more details and more accuracy people crave...the higher the price goes....at the end of the day they are models and down to the individual to decide if it's right for them i guess
Hi Jen, lovely models of the black 5,(or"hikers",as they were known here in the Highlands of Scotland), one of the guys at my club has an "O"gauge model, and it looks superb, thanks for sharing, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Hey Jen, looks like you got a good one there. Varying reports around YT. I got the LMS version sort of NYMR style. The lamps are black and seem smaller or at least less obvious more in keeping with the loco scale. Running has been fine although crawl can be a tad jerky at times. Over all very happy with it.
Hi Jen nice to see you back in the model room.A new Black 5 😃👍 looks a great model to me,awaiting mine with sound and steam generator not due till Sept/Oct...very nice and honest video😊
I've heard the crank pins come loose causing the crank shaft to come off the wheels. I don't know why this happens but it happened on two test samples. I'd say just to check the loco before and after you run it and use a little oil around the crank pins and valve gear pins.
Hi Jen im not into steam but that 5 looks good, I only run deltics, Peaks, Brush 2s etc, I do remember black 5s coming thro Mansfield they scared the daylights out of me, I was only small.
Have seen recently, more favourable reviews of the Hornby Black 5...'Mouldy Raspberry' UA-cam channel got a Glasgow Highlander and it was fine too... Your layout is looking good....
I follow Mouldy Raspberry on instagram and have seen the 5 running well....i think there are now as many favourable reviews as criticism which is good 👍
Get mine a few weeks ago LMS liveried versions. Ran it in both ways and saw no issues. It's now been put away for Christmas so hopefully won't fall apart in the mean time 😂
Even Hornby are saying they have had some issues with the new black 5. Anyway you carry on collecting black 5's your have in model form everyone that was made .😂
Nice model very unusual with the caprotti gear and double chimmney, and the pipes at the front of the loco but seems to run very well I agree with you about keeping new locos as they are nice review will you be getting the Glasgow Highlander????
Nice Black 5. There's a GWR Manor on the platform. Correct me if I'm wrong, but she looks like she might be 7812 Erlestoke Manor, preserved on the Severn Valley Railway in real life. Could you give the Manor a run pretty please? She is my favourite type of Great Western tender engine in general. Show me a GWR Manor hard at work, and I'll show you how much I truly love her.
Good to see you again, Jen. Missed your smile! The model looks great and runs well. I think some people are too fussy. The more detail, the more expensive the model. Fine for a static model but how much detail can be seen when models, even 0 gauge, are operating on a layout?
Absolutely ❤️ totally agree with everything you say there. They are models at the end of the day and my thoughts exactly on the more detailed and quality and mimics added on...up goes the price....then the complaints on too expensive start...they can't have it both ways
Hornby have missed a massive opportunity to produce an accurate Black Five and to all of those people who say people are being negative, Hornby still make basic mistakes many with the new Black Five. There is a massive amount of research material available to get the basics right. Compare the standards and accuracy that Accurascale have achieved with their Manor class.
I've been looking forward to someone doing a review on the Caprotti model as my pre-ordered model also arrived last week. I'm a big fan of the Caprotti black 5's and also have a Comet kit built loco of last built 44687. Like you my model is absolutely fine. I do believe there have been problems with some of the other class 5's released earlier. Back in my day my local model shop (CDS Models of Warrington) had a test track in the shop so it was tested before taking it home,no online shopping in them days! Don't believe half of what's put on UA-cam as some people either have it in for Hornby or are just unlucky when it comes to recieving models to test from online shops.
That is the beauty of in store purchasing over online. Both Chester model centre and TMC offer that which was a good job with Rapido 1501 as TMC went through their stock trying to find a good model on the first batch of them. If that had of been posted to me then it's the hastle of returns etc
I find now that people are only happy if they can find something wrong . If you want perfection then you are living in dreamland I am afraid . Nothing in this world is perfect !! Model looked great to me , except as you say the lamp . But really !!!!
Great too see you back Jen and with a Black 5 to boot. It looks immaculate, and the illuminated lights and firebox look the part too.
Thank you ❤️ I'm pleased with it

Thank you for your lovely comment. I am hoping to make more model videos during the Autumn Winter months so thank you for watching 😁👍

It’s great to see you with a new locomotive. I’ve just been buying sets and locomotives recently to store. Undecided whether to build another layout or build a new one. Thank you for a lovely video.
Thank you ❤️ have you decided what you are building yet? I'd say go new lay out 😁
Nice to see you back Jen, good to hear that yours is fine. I have the Sound/ Steam Generator version on pre-order.
Thank you ❤️ when do you expect to receive yours?
If you love it, that is all that matters. Good for you. I’m glad you are having fun with the hobby and the real steam engines. I am glad I am one of your subscribers. I get to experience everything through your adventures. Thank you.
Thank you as always ❤️
What a lovely surprise, Jen.❤ This is one of my favourite black 5's. I'm old enough to remember the full size ones and that's a good one. 👍
Thank you ❤️ I'm very happy with it.

Yes I think more favourable reviews are about now which is good.
The lamp seems to be unpopular with many though 😁

Hi Jen. Have missed you!!! As for other peoples comments....as long as your happy with a loco thats all that matters. Enjoy and stay happy.
❤️thank you ❤️

Thank you so much ❤️
Him nice loco and a very useful companion with the O gauge lamps. Never knew there was 5s fitted with that valve gear. Cheers Mike
Yes there were a few 😁👍
Lovely to see you back again. I thought the model was brilliant, think I might order one for my yet unbuilt layout. Cheers
Thank you ❤️ did you order yours?
Good to see you back Jen👍✌️💜😊
❤️❤️❤️
Very good. What you need is to DCC them with Hornbys Bluetooth sound decoders. It’ll add a whole new dimension that you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
A few I have are DCC which i just switch controller when I run those 😁
I like to think i have the best of both worlds
The valve gear mechanism is really quite simple, made the casting patterns many years ago for Comet models Black 5 Caprotti, it has not got the rotating valve shaft, so all we are looking at is a standard GWR valve gear loco, in operation, looks ok, but not worth the huge price these things are now..

I'm patiently waiting now for my Eric to arrive 😂😂
Hi Jen nice to see you back in the model room.A new Black 5 😃👍 looks a great model to me,awaiting mine with sound and steam generator not due till Sept/Oct...very nice and honest video😊
Thank you ❤️ have you received your model now?
@_j_loco_ No not yet 😞Should be soon though fingers crossed 😀

Hi Jen im not into steam but that 5 looks good, I only run deltics, Peaks, Brush 2s etc, I do remember black 5s coming thro Mansfield they scared the daylights out of me, I was only small.
😂😂 big scary 5's were they...that made me smile. Is that what sent you to the dark side of Diesel? 😂😂
She looks very nice J lovely model glad you're pleased with her,how many Black five's are your fleet, lovely class enjoy your railway
Thank you ❤️ i think it's in excess of 20 now 😂😂😂

Get mine a few weeks ago LMS liveried versions. Ran it in both ways and saw no issues. It's now been put away for Christmas so hopefully won't fall apart in the mean time 😂
😂😂well I hope not 😂😂
Can you really wait until Christmas though before you run it again 😂😂
@_j_loco_ not long to go now. And preorders coming in left right and centre now will keep me occupied till then 😉
Even Hornby are saying they have had some issues with the new black 5. Anyway you carry on collecting black 5's your have in model form everyone that was made .😂
😂😂😂 well I certainly am trying 😂😂😂
The Western Diesel Hydraulics are my equivalent to your black fives I hope to pick up a Western Diesel from my next visit to an exhibition
We all have our favourites 😁👍
Nice model very unusual with the caprotti gear and double chimmney, and the pipes at the front of the loco but seems to run very well I agree with you about keeping new locos as they are nice review will you be getting the Glasgow Highlander????
No probably not as I'm now waiting for my Eric to arrive which I'm hopeful maybe towards end of year if I'm lucky 😁
Lovely model runs really well. Some people just can't stop moaning about things
Afraid so😁👍
Don't you point that finger! One who forgets about us😂
Ooooops 😂😂😂
Nice Black 5. There's a GWR Manor on the platform. Correct me if I'm wrong, but she looks like she might be 7812 Erlestoke Manor, preserved on the Severn Valley Railway in real life. 😂😂😂 perhaps a Christmas special 😂😂😂
Nice to see another woman who’s into the hobby other than us men
Thank you 😊 ❤️

Some people ae a bit too fussy IMO, I care more about the fact that the model looks presentable and is a good runner.
Absolutely....me too. As let's face it if everything was perfection then the price would go even higher...then they would complain about that 😂
It's a "keepa" 👍
Absolutely 😂😂👍
Hi sweetheart nice to see you again ❤🚂
That black 5 runs nice 🚂❤️
Thank you ❤️
Your welcome ❤️🚂
Can't wait to see your winter videos 🚂❤️
Hiya 👍🏼👍🏼

I will await judgement on that until the Eric Treacy 5428 Black 5 arrives.
Looks and runs fine, if you read every review you wouldn’t buy anything.
This is very true! Thank you ❤️
@@_j_loco_ my pleasure

😂😂absolutely. And as you say they are models....for 💯 perfection the price would be ridiculous which then they would complain about 😂😂
