This is the perfect song for the ending of this movie--one of those rare end credits songs that the movie is not complete without, like "My Heart Will Go On" for Titanic. An Education is my favorite film. Jenny grows up, learns, becomes independent. Dear God, what an important theme An Education has--never depend completely on a man, and never ever ever sacrifice your personal development for a relationship. Never throw your independence away, especially when you're not even twenty yet. Because at any moment, that relationship could crash and burn. The only person you should ever completely rely upon, the only person you can trust without reservation, is yourself. And that's why your most important commitment is to yourself as a human being. And if anyone ever tries to make you lesser, pettier, lazier, more ignorant, or having less integrity as a human being, then you kick that loser to the curb.
+Marie Wasson Never depend on a bandit either man or woman. No gender question. If you want to gender it, ok. It's your political view, biased. So please teach your kids to completely trust any woman they see. And wait.
Her voice is amazing! The reverberations wow, that’s great, a great singer, I never hear about , and her knowledge of R&B wow ! What a big big surprise, also the arrangements.
I first heard this song over the closing credits of the movie An Education. I've been listening to classic R & B from the 40s 50s and 60s for quite a while, and I was floored I had never heard this tune before. I was totally convinced it was from around 1958, sounded like a young black soul singer, trained in church, arranged by a Motown studio. I was absolutely shocked to discover this is a young Welsh girl who wrote and arranged the song herself in the 21st century. Awesome.
I watched "An Education" the other night and what a wonderful movie it was, beautifully acted. As for Duffy, well what can I say...an amazing singer/songwriter with a uniquely incredible voice. I love her to bits!
I watched it last night and immediately had to look up her name! So fitting for this movie. Her voice is exquisite! So haunting and mesmerizing, loved her spacing between notes. Beautiful creation, Duffy‼️ ‼️
So... I admit, I was watching An Education and heard this song, so I thought it was actually a song from the 1960's. I was totally amazed when I learned that it was a modern song, she has killer vocals :)
Just watched the film. And while I listening to this song I googled "baby, baby you're a liar" and I found that. So easy. So charming. So touching. Simply great. And great movie. Gotta love that!
I watched this movie yesterday, and when this song came on I didn't have to wait for the credits to tell me who was singing. Duffy has a really distinct and beautiful voice, and this song is perfect for An Education :)
my Bride and I just watched 'An Education' ... a very unsung movie (to my recall) ... ending credits - this song bursts out, I grabed my phone of Shazam...as I was hooked after the first bar !!!!
I agree- but her story is quite appalling. Check it out on Wikipedia...if you want to go down a very ugly rabbit hole. I had no idea of how horrible it was until I googled Duffy to see why she disappeared from public view. Now I don't blame her at all for avoiding publicity. It's a shame that such a great talent was crushed.
Just watched the movie tonight and when the closing credits rolled and I heard this song, I had to jump on it. We need more from Duffy. The girl can sing her butt off.
I am sad I didn't know Duffy before 'an education' but am glad to say after watching that film I was able to hear all her tracks and i am a big fan now! she brings back that 60s glam for the younger audience! i wasn't born during that period but listening to her makes me wish i was! ;)
knew it was duffy straight away when movie end credits started rolling but still waited for her name and the name of the song to come up. beautifully sung :')
I needed to comment on this so bad, that i had to use my sons account...lol Movie! Good! Song Great! I fell asleep watching the movie initially, only because i was tired, and woke up to this treasure!! After hearing it, i had to go back and see what i missed in the film!!!! Great songstress!!! Never even heard of her before now, but in the last 24hrs, we have become very well acquainted!!! Simply Refreshing!
Smoke Without Fire If I'd known you were cheating me, I would have saved myself and set you free. If I learned you weren't the loving kind, I would have saved some peace of mind. My friends told me you would break my heart, And never last, we would surely part. There's no smoke without fire, Baby, baby you're a liar. People talk in this little town, Rumours keep spreading all around. And now word has it you've been foolin' me, I'm so blind that I cannot see. My friends told me never to believe in you, You never loved me you were never true. There's no smoke without fire, Baby, baby you're a liar. No there's no smoke without fire. Baby, baby you're a liar. You're a liar You're a liar You're a liar Baby you're a liar. There's no light without a flame, There's no use in having you to blame. No There's no smoke without fire. Baby, baby you're a liar. You're a liar
I heard it at the end of AN EDUCATION and to find this track on youtube was the first thing I did after I came back from the theatre... It is soooo amazing! Her voice, the music... the lyrics!!! Amazing!!!

What a beautiful comment. We have to trust in ourself first 😉.
+Marie Wasson Better expressed ... impossible! I agree with your comment from start to finish!

Duffy is phenomenal, I wish she made new music.
@@leylimammadova7514 She isn't the same person, so even if she did, it would be so different.
Some bad things happened to her so she probably won't comeback. AT this point you can only hope she finds peace and happiness.
her voice is incredible

Its about time Duffy got back to the limelight....she is a real talent.
I agree- but her story is quite appalling. Check it out on Wikipedia...if you want to go down a very ugly rabbit hole. Just watched the movie tonight and when the closing credits rolled and I heard this song, I had to jump on it. We need more from Duffy. The girl can sing her butt off.
