  • NEW YORK CITY - NY SALTWATER SURF FLY FISHING for BROOKLYN STRIPED BASS - April 2020 NYC. Time is stopped right now in the city that never sleeps - New York City, NY. However, the striped bass keep moving on. I went to look for stripers on the fly. I had a few hours to saltwater fly fish for striper next to a low lying Brooklyn bridge. It was a windy day but the wind breaks were perfect for my presentation. I decided to stick with a 3/0 Clouser minnow with medium eyes. I repeatedly flung, sank and danced the fly where I thought a striped bass per chance would come wallowing by. After about an hour of no signs of life the rod took a wild bend and here we go! This is a small snap shot of life going on in these NYC times. Please all stay safe and well. Have fun out there and we are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it and remember always - Fish Your Way!

      Thanks as always for the kind words Theodore! I love fly rodding even when the fish are not biting. The way I see it at the least every trip you come out that much more of a better caster. Plus its fun, I kinda like watching the line, kinda feels like hitting baseballs to me.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  4 роки тому +2

      Hi South Shore Angler good question. If conditions are right I prefer to use the floating lines they are just more fun to use and you can do more with them per presentation. However if I am getting a steady (15mph) rod side to frontal wind or a condition that creates heavy chop on the water I will go with the sinking lines. They are thinner and cut wind and water better. It varies but I do like and prefer to use the floating lines. If you have any question as to what you would like to use the line for msg me anytime

      Sure thing ST Richards, I tie my own. I like using about 6ft 50lb to 5ft 30lb to about 4ft of 15lb mono. I prefer the berkley big game plain monofilament line. They are about 7.99 a spool and you get hundreds of yards a spool and they straighten out nicely too. the bottom piece can get sorter when I change flies so I may start with 5ft and change when it goes below 3 feet and tie to the 30lb with a loop to loop. The 50 I nail knot on my main line a drop a bead of aquaseal and use a connection knot like a uni to the 30lb. they last a long time too like that

      @@ProstheticsandOrthotics So much welcome thanks Steve. Yea you pretty much got it 5-6ft, the front thin section I cut way down. About 3ft left first cut. Use it till it gets beat then I will take it down further next time. If I feel I dont like how the big flies are trailing on the 3ft section I will take it further. some lines I go right to the belly which in most case the way to go but always feels funny when you cut a new line any case!

      @@ProstheticsandOrthotics I find I can really bully the flies around much better line pushes and not lags around so much. Small unweighted flies if your using #4-#2 on 8/9 your just fine with the original taper
