How much "courage" does it take to scream lies and abuse at scientists working in fields you know little about? Tour is an ethically challenged zealot and an utter disgrace to academia.
That's a very sad thing too. Imagine that you are a scientist that truely wants to further science, and you really believe studying abiogenesis is a worthwhile endevour. Now imagine that you need funds to do your research, if you want funding you need to promise results, even if you know you will not achieve them. Who would want to fund a project that starts with "we will, in all likelyhood, not produce anything revolutionary". Now you have to willingly lie to do what you believe is the right thing.

There are people in the origin of life field who are trying to build things in the lab, and there are people in THE origin of life field who are trying to show how it happened 4 billion years ago. It's a subtle difference between origin of life and THE origin of life. One deals with synthetic life, and the other deals with the actual ways it could have happened. For example, building a cell in the lab would be fantastic for OoL researchers, but it wouldn't validate abiogenesis.

Dr. Tour spoke once about the love God has for those that love and help his Son just like we love the people (teachers etc. that take interest in and help our own children grow. Beautiful example. I love Dr. Tour for what he has taught me both about science and faith. How he finds the time to do it I will never know. Great man of God!

Tours angle of fraud here is to always whine about the complexity of modern cells...which are around 2 billion years of evoution apart from what is considered first life. It's one of his favourite misrepresentions on that subject.
Consider the process that takes place when sperm meets egg. Initially they are essentially dormant...until they meet. Then an amazing process takes place. The cell immediately starts to divide. After several rounds of cellular division, some cells KNOW to start turning into various tissues and organs. Think of the sheer volume of information needed to direct this orchestra of life. Some cells turn into the skeletal system, some into the digestive system, nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, muscular system, etc, etc. It's an amazing thing. All of the previous does no good UNLESS it also has the spark of life within it. This WHOLE process is guided by INFORMATION. There is no way unguided chaos is going to ever produce this kind of complex, cohesive, integrated, INFORMATION driven system. This goes to the whole idea of irreducible complexity. You have to have most, if not all, of the needed elements AT ONCE. You can't just incrementally assemble this stuff, it's never gonna happen, it's just too integrated and codependent on the other elements. THAT is WHY it's called a SYSTEM.
A great example of a biological system acting strictly on the laws of nature without any influence beyond the natural world. A patter which is 100% present with all biological processes we ever investigated, not to mention every other natural phenomenon that has been under scruteny in the history of science. None naturalistic influences are strictly a baseless assertion solely proposed by religous people.

I wouldn't have such faith in Tour. So far, he's only been right about one thing - we still don't know exactly how abiogenesis happened. But we do know for a fact that the simplistic account in the book of Genesis is just plain wrong if taken literally - even the Roman Catholics accept it as purely allegorical, and you just don't get holier than the pope.

I think this lecture is brilliant. I have been waiting for some time for a material that will be somewhat understandable to ordinary people like me. @jeffg4570 The focus has switched significantly in the last few decades. There are people in the origin of life field who are trying to build things in the lab, and there are people in THE origin of life field who are trying to show how it happened 4 billion years ago.
It's a subtle difference between origin of life and THE origin of life. One deals with synthetic life, and the other deals with the actual ways it could have happened. For example, building a cell in the lab would be fantastic for OoL researchers, but it wouldn't validate abiogenesis.

Consider the process that takes place when sperm meets egg. Initially they are essentially dormant...until they meet. Then an amazing process takes place. The cell immediately starts to divide. After several rounds of cellular division, some cells KNOW to start turning into various tissues and organs. Think of the sheer volume of information needed to direct this orchestra of life. Some cells turn into the skeletal system, some into the digestive system, nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, muscular system, etc, etc. It's an amazing thing. All of the previous does no good UNLESS it also has the spark of life within it. This WHOLE process is guided by INFORMATION. There is no way unguided chaos is going to ever produce this kind of complex, cohesive, integrated, INFORMATION driven system. This goes to the whole idea of irreducible complexity. You have to have most, if not all, of the needed elements AT ONCE. You can't just incrementally assemble this stuff, it's never gonna happen, it's just too integrated and codependent on the other elements. THAT is WHY it's called a SYSTEM.
A great example of a biological system acting strictly on the laws of nature without any influence beyond the natural world. A patter which is 100% present with all biological processes we ever investigated, not to mention every other natural phenomenon that has been under scruteny in the history of science.
None naturalistic influences are strictly a baseless assertion solely proposed by religous people.

I like your challenge mentality but this challenge needs to be done in an even more formal manner. In saying this I mean an advertisement in Wall Street Journal, Premier Science Journals and other very public forums offering large sums of money to these chief proponents to sit down with James Tour and debate this topic in a national forum. I think this lecture is brilliant. I have been waiting for some time for a material that will be somewhat understandable to ordinary people like me. This video should be a reference point for all who take the subject of the origin of life on Earth seriously. From the chemical sciences point of view at least.
