Thank you for the update, The Infographics Show..!! I recently learned what really happened to Medusa before she turned into a hideous monster. May she rest in peace.. 🙏
fun fact, Prometheus and Epimetheus mean foresight and hindsight, respectively. Prometheus actually warned his brother about Pandora (since he had foresight), but Epimetheus ignored him and accepted Pandora anyway.
@philly2548 what's wrong with that? Maximises watches. I've not seen these, but I'd not have time to go hunting through the historical archives of this huge channel.
a quick note to Asclepius's story he was a god he was a doctor he used to heal people he also acquired a staff of two snakes that would whisper the patient's illness and how to heal them he did not have the power to resurrect but the snake's venom did there is a story that he resurrected someone's child and it angered zeus he was warned not to do it again which he did do and Zeus smit him with a thunderbolt out of anger but his father grieved so much Zeus made him constellation to ease his pain
20th century adventurer Richard Halliburton decided to follow the voyages of Odysseus in his book, The Glorious Adventure. IIRC, he thought the whirlpool Charybdis would have been quite the threat to ancient boats/ships.
I never interpreted Medusa's transformation as a Mean Girl punishment. Why can't it be a gift? "No man - God or mortal - will EVER hurt you like that again. I grant you freedom from foul and lustful gaze. Enjoy it!" But nooo. "Pretty is the best and only thing a woman can be. Take that away and she's just garbage." Stop thinking of women as man-toys and the story takes on a different tone!
@@TheDramacist You'd think she would've done something like this to the guy, but no. The version I had heard, a long time ago, was that Medusa was a beauty, with a magnificent mane of hair, and compared her own beauty to the goddess Athena. Goddesses don't like that. Still, overkill.
um, the "medusa as beauty being cursed" thing was a later version of the myth written by Hesiod, who liked to portray the gods as petty tyrants and was a bit of a misogynist (hence the Pandora thing). Medusa was ALWAYS a monster, period.
According to the book of Greek and Roman myths and legends that my parents gave to me when I was nine, death was a sort of beauty and that's what was in the box Psyche was bringing to Aphrodite.
I heard several versions of this. This was well researched and really cool. Thanks for putting in the time to make this.

The literal embodiments of foresight and hindsight
What would be the use of hindsight? Lol

I sourly note that both Greek mythology and the Bible blame women for humanity's woes.
@annnichols3091 don't most mythologies?
@@Jacklone-hg8lq I can't recall if the Norse myths did. I'm not familiar with others.
Still rocking with the Infographic show til this day 😮❤🎉💯👍

Pandora's box is featured in the "Boxed Up Fury" episode of the "Danny Phantom" cartoon.
Also the cartoon Billy & Mandy's Adventures.
Perseus and Oddeseus and Theseus come close as Heroes.
Given the way the ancient Greeks treated women, I don't consider them to be truly civilized.
Ah, that was Awesome: I Am The Moon is a reference most people won't get, but it is from The Mighty Bush ;)
Also, Medusa was one of the seven faces of Dr. Lao in that movie.
And it was Merlin that reversed the petrification.

Asclepius has one snake on his staff.

Don't forget the 1964 horror movie, "The Gordon," which has Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Barbara Shelley.
Yes the mortal Medusa is immortal like her sisters.
Come to think of it, sphinxes and Perseus also play a role in Fletcher's Stoneheart trilogy.
Have you read Arthur Machen's novella, "The Great God Pan"?
Excellent simply excellent.

Not cool Zeus. That's assault.
How about Eris' appearances in "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy"?
Also Pandora, Nergal and Cthulhu.
Heracles is the strongest Demigod.
Medusa's head plays a big role in the Stoneheart trilogy by Charlie Fletcher.
38:28 The mother of Helen of Troy in some versions of the Greek myths. ❤
So, Athena blamed the victim? That's where we get it from!
Victim blaiming? Martyrdom?

Ovid was a hack. He hated Athena / Minerva and let it colour his work, no time for him.
Medusa is also a character in the old cartoon, "Porky's Hero Agency".
Compilation, your welcome 😁
when extra history does a compilation, people are happy. when infographics does it, people complain. I"d love to know why

My apologies but you’re thinking about Ovid. Hesiod’s Medusa was a monster since birth
And she may or may not of had 2 sisters.
