In 1985 the new album got decent air play. On July 4th The played before a million people in Philly. That night another show in D.C. in front of 500,000. A week later did Live Aid show in Philly. I was up front for both Philly shows. A Great Summer.
I think it's the Guinness Book Of World Records.
Great interview/chat with David. He has so much background info and the ESQ issue on “85” is awesome. I bought “85” when it came out and was nicely impressed with its quality and consistency. I appreciate it even more now. As a side issue it’s so true, for me as well that I/we don’t know any other Beach Boys fans apart from online/podcasts and on UA-cam !😂 Sure plenty of my friends and my wife like the Beach Boys but are not fans. So thanks Giggens for what you and others are doing! 😃👍🏻
Thanks for watching.
We all exist online haha!
July 4th 1981 @Long Beach in Cali. No Carl on tour. So rough times.
Yes, that's the one. There were portions of the concert where there were no Wilson brothers on stage. I watched a little of it and couldn't watch any more.
Foskett began in 81 w/ Mike Loves Endless Summer Band. Toured Loves "Looking Back With Love" LP.
I love the Beach Boys 85' album. I bought the day it came out on cassette.
Awesome!
No matter if the Beach Boys had a so called weak album you will always find a song or two that you find enjoyable
so true
As a lifelong Beach Boys zealot I can say it's half n half; 14 killer essential BB albums & 14 mediocre/hit&miss (completest only) albums, the latter being mostly everything after Love You. Much respect to Dave, you sold me a few Jan&Dean albums years back.J 🎶
I remember the Beach Boys in Spain, who talked about them as a strange group... I think that everyone has that feeling with them
24:21 No, David Beard! Don't you dare question my irrational, nonsensical hatred for Mike Love!
LOL
Hi Giggens, just popped over from the basement with Steve Lewis and i am glad to see you and David there. Us BB fans will always regroup wherever . Best Regards
Thanks for tuning in
Maybe because it was on the BBs home turf, when I saw BBs and Chicago in May of '75 in SoCal, Chicago was the opening band.
Can you ask someone about why the 2021 Sounds of Summer was so bad and why it was even released? It sounds like a child used AI to remix the music. Even worse than those 2012 digitally separated mixes. It ruins the Beach Boys legacy if they are going to make those the canon mixes.
Absolutely love this conversation. I am a huge fan of KTSA and '85. goin' On and Some of Your Love are absolute classics. California Calli', Getcha Back, Crack at Your love...man ALL of '85 is just so comfortable. Except Male Ego...
It's great to hear you two chat. Good info and rapport.
🙂
"Everyone's favourite curmudgeon", ha ha ha ha! Spot on!
In fact I got freshly curmudgeonised by him just half an hour ago because I wanted to know a fact about a photo of Brian (not the first time and probably not the last, ha ha!) and instead of either giving me the info or saying "I don't know", I got curmudgeonated - Oops, silly me for asking!
Anyway, I'm glad it's a known phenomenon and he certainly knows his BB facts!
Ha ha, perfect! 😆
Also perfect is the bit about BB fans, "We don't exist in real life" - Ha ha, SO true! I don't have a single friend or know any other musicians (I'm in the "music world") who appreciates them to the level I do. It's a weirdly lonely but information-packed existence.....
Thanks for tuning in.
@@esqeditor229 - It's always a pleasure! 🙂
Just wonder if as fans our expectations just become heightened, I became a big fan in about 1975 with a build up of appreciation with Holland, In Concert and the whole back catalogue, I enjoyed all the albums beyond my first new release of 15 Big Ones but it always came with a sense of frustration most songs are great but had my expectations become unrealistic, now can go back and enjoy the quality on them.
I can dig that!
Love this talk, when will you load up pt. 2?
Thanks for watching
June 9!
I know your content is primarily visual. I wondered if you'd ever considered releasing the audio as a podcast? I totally get it suddenly becomes another full time job so I hope I don't sound petulant or demanding. You do enough already! The lack of BB pods always surprise me. There are like a million for The Beatles. Even The Monkees have around 5.
I'd love to do a podcast again, maybe someday!
Hi Giggens I love your channel. I’m a bb nut too! My new channel is concentrating on interviews with artists, but I wondered whether you’d be up for a chat on bb experiences and related topics. I live in U.K. but am currently living in Spain. I think it’d be great! Thanks so much! Best Jamie
Love the conversation. Now i need to get an ad blocker.
