We install solar panels on the roof of Emily Aisling's cabin with a power bank located inside to provide electricity to her cabin.
Afterwards, we take a few days off and head into the backcountry of Algonquin Park in Ontario Canada to camp, canoe, hike, forage and fish. We cook all of our meals on a campfire, including beef tacos, fish tacos, beef rib steaks and braising ribs, bacon and eggs, pancakes, fried white and sweet potatoes and more. I make herbal tea with fireweed, cedar and spruce, a much needed warm drink after dealing with intermittent rain and incessant strong winds. Cali, our Golden Retriever, spends most of her time swimming, chasing squirrels and has a run-in with a mink after it steals one of our fish and hides it in the rocks in the lake.

My dad was a huge outdoorsman. It was him who instilled in me my love of nature and everything the outdoors has to offer. We would fly with our canoes into the back lakes of Canada to fish. He had me whitewater rafting down the Colorado River by the time I was 10. He was a pilot and as soon as I was big enough to be strapped into a seat he had me doing barrel roles in our old bi-wing Stearman biplane.

They say the apple don’t fall far from the tree. In Emily’s case that’s absolutely 100% true. I love how you two bond through the outdoors, nature and Cali of course! What a blissful wonderful father-daughter camping trip. Thnx for letting us be a small part of it! 🙏🏻

My dad is a very handy guy too, but I live in an apartment and i can't afford a house in the next 5-10 years. I'm afraid my dad will be either too old or just plain dead before I can buy a house and invite him to help me fix it up which I know he would gladly do too.
That is life, I still get to hang out with my parents which is more that a lot of people can.

While I was growing up we spent our summers at our lake house. Had two pair of Loon’s on the lake. Love that every year they came back to hatch their babies. So wonderful to watch them care for their young.

I've seen comments from people that live near his little cabin he uses. They said he's an unfriendly, larping asshole. All the neighbors. Not just one.😂

Most people would have finished them & just told God they died.
He HAS no neighbors now & hasn't for 2 years. If you associated with them it doesn't say much for you, and with that comment it seems you may be of the same stripes. Maybe even one of them.

This warms my heart! I am blessed to still have my dad. He is 83 and works three days a week. We love doing projects together, laughing together, and enjoying a Bourbon together! He has been the most influential person in my life. I’m so glad to see you enjoying your dad’s company. I pray you have many more years together!

I lost my dad to cancer when he was just 62. I’m 66 now and still camp with a tent and canoe. I will cherish all those adventures with my dad forever.

I can only imagine how refreshing and re-energizing that was. It is gratifying to see you are enjoying the lifestyle you have chosen while you build it into a sustainable situation. I know you are anxious for the day the work slows down so that more "free" time is available. I also appreciate the immense effort you are giving your extended family.
I had only wished for moments like this with my dad...he passed away in Alaska when I was 7....you are such a wonderful father and teacher to your family!! Unlike most kids Emily's age their parents enable them...I watch Emily also and tell her how proud I am of her and her accomplishments, she blows my mind at what she does at her age!! It is amazing how we are made strong by different things. The best way is through love and patience and teaching . The bond and love between you and your daughter is so heartwarming and uplifting. It brought tears of happiness to my eyes for your daughters. My dad was lost to intense mental illness and had no ability to give love or teaching to his children due to this illness. My heart sings with happiness when I see the love in families.

I’m Canadian living in Japan for over 11 years now. I have a lovely home and small farm here in the countryside, but am preparing to return to the west coast of Canada within a couple of years. I sure miss the Canadian wilderness and camping! You had such a great trip with your daughter and Cali. You inspired me to get out for camping more often. 😊

Affordable solar will mean so many more properties are opened for either full time or cottage living (especially if coupled with a back up diesel/petrol generator). Great info. Also good to see you enjoying the outdoors with quality family time.
I couldn’t come close to justifying it in the past. Grid electricity is not an option for me at the cabin anyway but I’m still happy it’s come way down in price.

I grew up camping with my Grandpa. That time taught me so much and made me who I am. If the power goes out I can cook over a fire with no problem. In fact I prefer it! Lol Food is always better over a fire in the woods! Food becomes a central thing while camping. But food has always traditionally been a celebration of life. What better time to celebrate than with your daughter in the woods!!! Beautiful! I miss camping!
This was absolutely beautiful!!! I only wish my father had done this with me. Emily is just like her dad. So wonderful to make these forever memories. Cali so cute, so protective of Emily, and played hide and go seek, fetch, and shoe thief! The meals looked amazing. Listening to the wind, nature and waves while enjoying a book with nature tea! Dipping in the water, fishing and canoeing at any desired moment! How peaceful and total bliss! Thank you for sharing and Im happy you got to enjoy this time together. Enjoy your back up solars.
It's been a while since I've watched you and your daughter and something just told me to watch this episode, and so glad I did 😁 I wanted to thank you for your knowledge because it is helping my husband and I as we are starting to prepare ourselves for a more self reliance lifestyle! Here in the states, we are really looking at what the future holds and how to sustain if things get turned upside down. A wonderful episode camping with your daughter. The location was epic. It seemed like such a peaceful campsite right by the lake.
This video brings back memories of my dad and I doing the very same thing. In a week, he will be gone a year. We fished, hiked, hunted, foraged, made tea and coffee, and had lots to eat on the fire. His example taught me to spend much time with my own kids, and still do. And they in return take time off their lives to want to spend time with me. Good thing you shooed Cali from that Mink. Nasty critter. I'll be interested in coming episodes on how the Ecoflow system is doing. I am quite interested in this system after seeing this video. Thanks, Shawn. This was an excellent video.

Reminds me of my dad and I fishing on Mc Kenzie Lake, Armstrong, Ontario. Brings me right back to 1975, brings tears to my eyes, happy ones. I can smell the lake, the trees, feel that NW breeze on my face, nothing like it.

Your Algonquin Canoe solo trip videos are what first brought me to your channel years ago, long before the first cabin build. I always found them to be peaceful. I love that you are out there with your daughter now. I'll be going with my own daughter in a week or so, too. Thanks for sharing this with us.

This was great watching you fish and camp with your daughter. At camp we would only fish as a family. As far as stuff like this I never fished with my dad. Would have loved to but, he didn’t really know how to do things with me. We would watch the rain together and he would drive the boat for me to waterski. Love the sandy bottom and watching Cali. She is a beautiful dog. Love her with her toy when laying there it was right there.
