Youngsang Cho is Organic Farmer. Cho learned Natural Farming from his father Hankyu Cho(Korea Natural Farming, KNF) who advocated environmental agriculture since the 1960s. Anyone new to this and confused on what the fittings used are called, here it is:
• 3/4” bulkhead union fitting
• 3/4” hex nipple MIP (male in pipe)
• 3/4” ball valve FPT/ FIP (female pipe thread/ female iron thread)
• 3/4” compression fitting
I think he uses 1inch bulkhead on bottom for drainport. So adjust size and adapters as needed if you want it similar. It doesn’t have to be exact! Use this as an idea, it could be made in so much other ways. Hope this info helps 👍🏽😊

I bought your book and absolutely love it. I'm trying to get all of my supplies together to start using some of the JNP recipes. I really appreciate you sharing all of this valuable information. I noticed in the book next to your photos of this JWS barrel, there were photos of something else you made either a filter or an alternative to the barrel style JWS using a large PVC pipe capped on both ends - I wasn't clear on which it was. Would that work as alternative style water softener or would there be issues with it not holding enough of the cation?
There are many different styles of water softeners. You just need to softe well. Thank you for your interest.

I have used them extensively in hydroponic and different applications, they are convenient and reduce leak potential.

Im confused... is this a pressurized system? what do we do with the resins, I'm assuming they go in the bottom of the tank but how deep? and what do we do with the salt? This is not a pressurized system. Resins are responsible for adsorbing cations such as calcium and magnesium. Salt regenerates its adsorption capacity when the resin loses its capacity.

I think it has a bad effect on the activity of soil microorganisms. When making JMS, chlorine-containing water delays incubation time, but incubation is possible.

Thank you for information. How many Kilograms of resins you put in the barrel? and are the resins only cation adsorbing? how about anion adsorbing like Al-?
Put 25-50 leaders of resin in 15 barrels. Anions cannot be adsorbed.
Where do place the cation exchange resin? In the barel or inside the filter?

Thank you for the valuable information, I had two questions-
1) Does flow rate matter when choosing a barrel, if the flow rate is 250L/Minute what size barrel does one choose?
2) For a 200L barrel what is the minimum amount of cation exchange resin required for the barrel to produce soft water?
Based on tap water, 1L of cation exchange resin is about 1000L (1320 barrels). There is a lot of difference depending on the water. When the resin loses its water softening ability, salt water regeneration can restore the resin's function.
Can the resin we buy be used immediately or does it have to be activated first?

Regarding the ion exchange resin, I found to buy Polyphosphate Crystals, but there is a warning that the result will be undrinkable water! My question would be: if the resulting water is not recommended for humans, can I use it for plants, so can I use this resin to reduce the hardness of the water and then make the Jadam wetting solution? The water from the well that I have access to has 330 ppm!

get an EC meter/pen to check the PPM's of your water.
U can also put a couple drops 💦 of JWA in a glass of water. If it fogs up it is hard water ….🚿
If the color of the water does not change by adding a few drops of natural liquid soap to water, it is soft water.

In Malaysia, the water pipe was add chlorine. So, can I used the calcium sulfite (CaSO3 ball) to dechlorine the water?
You just need to leave the water out in a bin for 1-2 days or you can use aquarium air pump bubbler (RM8-15 on Shopee) and leave it overnight for faster result. Also Malaysia tap water is consider soft water (below 60ppm) anyways.
Leave the water in sunlight for 24 hours and it will disappear naturally.

Sir, Your techniques are highly usefule for farmers world wide, my only observation , that too for the farmers benefit, is this one, Why sir, is not considered , most important aspect of farming, i.e Earthworms, it's role, how earthworms & Microbes can be useful in the field. Earthworms , will move up and down in the soil and bring all nutrients even from 15 feet beneth the soil and then microbes job seems easier.
