    Your videos are always so interesting. They really inspire me to make these kinds of contraptions and experiment. As a way to pay this back, here's a little trick that you don't know about. When you have to empty a bottle full of water/liquid quickly, give it a nice swirl just before pouring. This way you create a vortex or whirlpool inside the bottle that lets air rush in at the same time that water comes out. Hope you at least find that interesting!

    This is why I love physics, just looking at the device my head is brimming with questions, how big it would need to be in order to for the water to flow non stop for the whole day? Would it still work if the fountain part were bellow the reservoir? What would happen to the water flow if you change the girth of each pipe individually? And so many others.... I should build one myself =P

    Bruce Yeany, at 3:41 I understand your point. Some people claim that putting the two lower water containers at the same elevation is the "solution" and that it will run forever. What would you say about that?

    • @YeanyScience
      @YeanyScience  4 роки тому +1

    I came across this looking for ideas for a birdbath/fountain that did not require electric or solar power. With that being said would this work with PVC pipes as tanks in a straight verticle set up with a shower head at the top, or would that mess up the flow? Also with it also being a birdbath with the increased amount of water, other than evaporation would I need to fill it often?

    • @YeanyScience
      @YeanyScience  5 років тому

      Hi Tony, My mistake on posting this video is not showing the length of time that the water flows. the fountain will only flow as long as it takes for the top water supply to drain down to the lower bottle. We are talking about up to 10 minutes, which means that you would have to constantly be switching the bottles around. I'd like to have the same thing, since birds are attracted to the sound of splashing water and we have enough trees that solar panel is not a good option.

    • @velvanae
      @velvanae 5 років тому

      @@YeanyScience Thank you for that information I looked up other ideas and seen your video on a fountain in a bottle and thought about combining the two setups but came to the conclusion it would not work due to air pressure not being correct. So now I am working on a ram pump design for this purpose If I come up with something I will for sure let you know.

      Not water as water conducts electric potential. The only thing utterly harmless to electronics would be mineral oil, and you would need significantly thicker inner diameter for the tubing. Still, yes.,The setup of a liquid cooled pc is feasible a and even commonplace for artists or people interested in higher computer power. Cool trick is having a fish tank of mineral oil sealed airtight in a fish tank to give the illusion a sunken computer tower.

    • @seanregehr4921
      @seanregehr4921 5 років тому

      It is continuous in the sense it continuously flows without any external forces. Place it outdoors and it will operate will almost no human effort as rain will refill any lost water from evaporation etc. Even in colder climates the water can free and as soon as it melts it will start back up as long the water level is sufficient.

    • @timhallas4275
      @timhallas4275 5 років тому +1

      @@seanregehr4921 Wrong. The "external force" is gravity. The water had to be lifted to the upper container in order for this action to begin. That is applied potential energy.. Once the upper container is empty, there is no longer potential energy available. The idea that rain filling the upper container is adding energy. The point is, this is no more perpetual motion than is the water cycle .... evaporation...condensation...precipitation. It requires energy from the sun to work.

    Muy bueno que corra el agua sin bombas..... Pero tengo una pregunta..... Me gustaria hacer lo mismo pero para un bebedero de gallinas.... El bebedero se compone de 1garrafa de 80L con una manguera que va a un tubo de pvc, que dentro del tubo tiene una bolla que segun se va gastando el agua se va llenando este mismo tubo esta abierto para k puedan beber las gallinas.... Mi pregunta es si yo pongo al final del bebedero una manguera hacia la garrafa de 80L haria lo mismo que lo que as iventado tuuuu con las garrafas espero su respuesta lo antes posible gracias y un saludo

    Just hook up a hydro generator and get electricity for water.

      Scale this up 100 times put genetator in front of flowing water and you can run half kv generator and produce electricity without burining fossil fuel

    So this could not run indefinitely because the water will reach equilibrium and it will stop. I heard claims of this running forever

    Dosn't the lower bottle run out of water and then you must refill and reprime it to start it up again?

    I'm feeding the birds in my garden and providing water for them. However, the water is often contaminated with debris, making it dirty. I appreciate the suggestion and will work on implementing this idea to keep the water consistently clean. Thank you!

    Bruce if we make this system on a massive scale, essentially fitting it with the size of water stream that can propel a dynamo (the ones that are used in a water reservoir, in principal we can have 'free' energy.

    I understand there's a time when the fountain will stop but I am wondering if the flow could be started and stoped by plugging / pinching the end of the top fountain section? This would make a great hand free camp sink / shower system or a children's toy kitchen sink. Surprised the concept it is not used more in our everyday lives / products.

      A valve could be placed in the fountain neck, but used/dirty water must be directed to the lower bottle, not just discharged. As a practical matter, just raise the source jug and put a valve on the drain to wash your hands & face.

      it will continue until all the water flows from the top bottle to the bottom bottle, the time depends on the size of the fountain, setup shown lasts about 2 minutes. If I use the small hoses from the small unit and the large bottle it will last up to about 15 minutes

    How about if the lower jag bottom is cut off or open, and submerge it just above a free source of impound pond to suction water and let excess water above as source of irrigation. Did you tried it so that concept of heron fountain can be useful for agriculture irrigation without using irrigation pump.
