I turned 21 during the 2nd set of this show. They started late and played well past midnight. 👏
Who the hell had a portable VHS recorder in July 1979? Kudos to getting that thing in there and getting the job done.
someone filmed van halen in 1978 with one to
My question is why make it impossible to actually see anything with the ridiculous effects on such a gem of found footage. They ruined the video. Great audio. Would have been nice to see something. Why totally destroy the footage??
@@Jeff-S There's isn't much actual footage for first ~35mins.

79’ is one of those carefully kept secrets.
Incredible audio quality. Great presence! You can hear every single detail. Amazing!!
The hair on my arms went up at the beginning of Half Step just as it did that day. Glorious....
inspiration. move me brightly.
I love 79 reenergize.
Great audio! Nice mixing. 💯👍🏼👌🏼🎶🎸
Great show thanks, Brent’s rookie year
Nice audio thank you🎉
Kevin Tobin - that's all I needed to see. Thanks!
Thanks 🙏👍
This show is amazing, my first show was Glennfalls ny 79 I was 9 years old , my dad had contract for regulating hockey Ice under floor.Best sounds I’ve heard from 79 congratulations 🎉🍾🎈🎊 to Kevin’s hard work to make this happen. May the mighty spirits keep you well and strong 💪 bro 😎 👍✨🔥💥🌈❤️🔥🤪😝🎉🌺⚡️☄️💫🤩😍👍✨🌈🎸🍀❤️😂
Glens falls yes !I live Iin lake Luzerne. Saw the dead w dylan at spac
Woah! These vids just keepa comin out of nowhere. Never seen this one before. Brent's just over 2 months in and they're just exploring, deciding, colliding and riding on whatever comes next. It's hard for me to imagine that the sound of a Hammond was actually a new sound in the pallet at one point. You don't see much '79 video. Thanks for giving my eyes something to accompany my ears when I listen to this era.
This is the first year I saw them. Thanks for the vid
Thanks for posting this nugget
Audiophile expertise of highest caliber, ahead of its time. A precious gem and perfectly documented technical lineage. Awesome early Brent like this is a true gift. You have made my day and blown my mind! I'm quite impressed with the fine work you've curated here. Thank you!!
thx for all of the uploads Kevin. they help get me through the daze. 😊
The Wolf!
Great Peggy O!
Fantastic sound, thanks so much. My little Bose speakers are throwing me back in time and space with the crisp, crunchy riffs and beautiful vocals. Spectacular Brown Eyed Women! Jerry, wow. A good reminder of his gift and the band's power and precision.
Thanks so much for your work bringing us these amazing shows.
Thanks for posting! Jerry is phenomenal, the whole show🔥🔥🔥
thanks ET Benson and everyone involved !
angelic! Thanks to everyone involved with recording and producing this!
The Mark Severson audience source from this show is one of the best audience recordings you will ever hear. I have been listening to this show for years from this source. So happy others are hearing this one. A superb upload for the masses, my friend.
Late summer, 8/27/83 from the Seattle Coliseum is also a very hot performance w/ a great audience capture from D5 Scott and DaWeez. One of the absolute burliest Jack Straw set 1 openers of all-time. Phil just carpet bombs the Seattle Coliseum!
Well ... the bad part of youtube is you only get 1 audience track - I use the Mark Severson audience as the back channels for the 5.1 version and mixed with the soundboard as the matrix versions and it is a great audience. You get the you were there feel with it as part of the mix. You can torrent them at www.shnflac.net if you like
@@BrokedownHouseProd I just DL'd your MTX at the IA. I check daily there and get SBD's & MTX's shows before they quickly (ahem) become "Stream Only"
cosmicharlie - the liberator haha!
Sweet sounds too my
Ears !
Kevin ! Thank you
From ohio , Kentucky and Tennessee and yes Florida ! All the states I’ve rested my head Sir . Thank you 🙏 !
Thanks for this, so cool... This is how they looked and sounded when I seen them in Billerica Mass 79
That was a fun show!
Was that at the hockey rink or something funky like that?
@@larrydee9265 Yes, known as the Billerica Forum. A local rink with plywood covering the ice, which, by the end of the show had been largely taken off so people could slide around. One of the more informal shows I attended.
@@edwinhurwitz6792 That's what I thought....met some folks at UCONN from Billerica and they were talking about what a blast it was....just started my GD journey around that time and what a great story this was to hear...
Didn't remember if it was a rink or a HS gym...
Thanks ✌️
Oh man! I listen to your matrix mixes on the archive. Thank you SO much for all the material! You're a legend.
Thanks so much a rare treat..the sound mix is interestingly amazing..u can hear bobby crystal clear
I was there - it really was that crystal clear, the separation was incredible
Thank you Kevin, you're like the OG of Dead uploads !!
Always a pleasure to listen to your stuff Kevin. The sound quality on this one is excellent. Thank you so much for doing what you do.👏
thank you for supplying several days worth of those "daily needed miracles" 😌 just what I needed to sooth my soul! much love
Nice viddy!!! Great sound!! Someone will likely stabilize the shakiness with new AI software. So great these are getting out to the masses!!!
Cheers and thanks to Kevin Tobin for all his work...
Thank You Kevin I have watched many a video thanks to you, my kind Friend!✌🌞💯This one sounds particularly well mixed! Phil is thick! Thanks again!
unbelievably good sound, and this show is a firecracker // NFA \\
Oh how lucky we are. ✌️💙
Ooh yeah crazy frikin wild ass video HELL YEAH BROTHER 😎
Amazing!
...from a time when Northwest Dead was greeted with the same anticipation, special event feeling and belief for many of us : the good ol' GD was our own west coast Rolling Stones. None since have come close to the live Dead rock and roll experience.
Killer Kevin!!! love this
Passenger is a highlight to be sure. Great upload
That song was waiting for Brent. I'm a 1965-1979 or so guy at heart and love the 77-78 versions but Brent's presence really made Passenger cook a little more. Hot version.
Nice Sound
Brent was such a powerhouse.
When he joined, the Dead went from standard definition to high definition!
Their video did not, just kidding of course I’ll take what I can get.
About a month before Jerry dropped Tiger on us.
Best Sugaree ever!
Mamma Mia what a monster show , mucho apreciado
Wow!
Why does this video feel like it's from a time machine that went back magically to 1979? Thank you so much!!
Wow Brent and Bobby on passenger are smokin!!!
There's a tracking feature that exists within Davinci Resolve that I believe could be used to lock down this shot so it doesn't wiggle! Might be worth a shot. (Great Great Stuff here!!!)
This was recorded on a dirty white Converse All-star with a russet potato microphone powered by a starving grey squirrel...GOOD GOD!
So you just discovered the grateful dead? Just a Heads up on a very rare occasion Jerry Garcia(lead guitar/vocals/beard/glasses) will fuck up the lyrics of a song too...
in the best way!
@@r00tb0und You mean the FAT guy?
samson and delilah is ridiculous. weir is sublime, and jerry...is well, jerry!
This was the conclusion of a brief 3-show West Coast tour after Sacramento and Portland.
Bobby is so weird...lol. love it!
HAHA totally
Thanks for the recording it's great but just to let you know, the transcript lyrics are way off but it was funny when I read peggy-o " the captain fell in love with a lady like a dog" and on brown-eyed women it says " and it looks like the old man is getting known " nah dude, it's: "and it looks like the old man, is getting on "... meaning: getting on in years or getting on with his life.
Just into the 2nd set and I now have a new favorite concert even though I usually try to be aware of steering clear from hyperbolic declaration ... what's in this shit?
edit1: Made it thru drums . . . edit2: Easiest space I ever did; I love Jerry's admiration for Bobby rock star. And I love Mydland so very much. ...
Seriously, who am I that I've not seen (heard) this before? I wonder what happens tomorrow.
Stagger lee!!!
the sound is the greatest ever but...hate to be a wet blanket but I sure would love to limit the images to d/s and show the band playing a bit more....still, beggars can't be...this is a nug for sure....lots of goodies popping up....quality sounding videos are the best
I was there!
54:00
perfectly good historic video yet you mess with it
I didn't "mess" with it .... whatever video that was recorded that night is there with a better soundtrack. The filler can be skipped over if so desired.
My brother is a Believer
I am curious if he's got this one
Bet he does
.... but can someone give me timestamps? I'm lazy.
They got weir turned up for a change
I believe this was at the Arena not the Coliseum. RIght next to each other but different venues. Arena a good venue but kind of the "B" team for big rock shows at that time.
Best Passenger?🤨
Just stick to calliopes and clowns.
Hello, My name is also jef
@@r00tb0und I played with two other guys named Jef. I called that band "Three F Jefff"
