Dear Carrie,
How can we help a child who is speaking mostly in vowels? This child is leaving off most of their consonant sounds and using only vowels to communicate with others. What can be done in therapy to help that child be able to use more consonant sounds?
This video will show you how to help a child combine single vowels and consonants to create short words. Click the link for our free CV, VC, and CVC flashcards and worksheets along with the free word lists on our website:

Thank you! You are amazing !!! Life saver
Beautiful explanation- I literally had a parent quit therapy because they didn’t see the value of syllable play and play therapy in general with a two year old after I had explained it - too bad I didn’t have these worksheets printed!
New video question:
I have a child that is speaking mostly in vowels and omits initial and final consonants. When slowing down, he can say most voiced sounds in the beginning of words (example: bat), but if he tries to use a voiceless consonant at the beginning of the word (pat), it comes out as -at. He omits it and when i try to get him to say pat, he says "puh- at". I cant get him to say it without a space between the first consonant and vowel. Help!
Thanks SO much for this :)
You're welcome! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Is vowel speaking a marker for Apraxia?
It can be! But it's not necessarily. A full evaluation should be conducted
Is there any medicine or supplement to the speach delayed child ,my granddaughter is suffering ,can you help
Hello there! I don't know of any medicines or supplements that help a child learn to speak. The best thing you can do is have her evaluated by a speech-language pathologist in your area. Her doctor should be able to help you find someone!
