You can hear this music played all over irelands tourist spots ,to me it all sounds the same ...same old modern instruments playing the same old fast pace tunes ...but i like the traditional old medieval slower paced , irish folk music that's played on more traditional irish instruments eg simple wooden flutes, whisles, bodhrans, harps bagpipes(regardless of complexity)hurdy gurdys, primitive fiddles, bones , the kinds of old medieval and post medieval instruments that would possibly have been in ireland at the time up until the flight of the earls and the treaty of limerick, ,bodhrans ..?maybe a different form of drum, but a drum never the less.!...possibly rebecs not violins, simple flutes no doubt and simple bagpipes, maybe gitterns or some such similar ,hurdy gurdys...yes ....not melodians ..not concertinas, not modern guitars or modern violins....maybe flageolets rather than actual tin whistles but a very similar sound.!..the tunes would also have sounded completely different, most of this pub music and the instrumennts it is played upon are from the english colonial period , ..i prefer to hear authentic gaelic music played on authentic musical instruments of the gaelic period...!

lol, Tell me where can you hear one of the worlds great living uilleann pipers, or one of Ireland greatest balladeers, or the daughter of one of Ireland true legends playing together. As for the bodran...it is a "drum" you numpty which the Chinese were playing nearly 8000 years ago. And tell me, what "traditional Irish instruments" (instruments invented by the Irish) were being played in 1691? You clearly know jack shit about great Irish Trad music.

@@michaeloconnell9476 some of the above mentioned .. clearly there were no melodeons ,no modern violins ,no modern guitars,no modern English language,no bouzoukis, no banjos,if you want me to educate you further ,you will have to pay me ,as I don't normally teach for free..but any educated musical historian ,could put you right,I suppose it depends on your definition of trad folk music ..!

@@michaeloconnell9476 you really need to educate yourself to irish history and how the english suffocated irish musical culture especially from the tudour period, henry 8th,Elizabeth 1st,Oliver cromwell, the williamite period ,and the hanoverian period...over that time ,irish dress, language, music ,religion etc..was outlawed on pain of death...!

@@michaeloconnell9476 possibly percussive instruments spoons , bones ,drums ,the harp, the irish war bagpipes, bladder pipes . flageolet ,fyffe, simple whistle flute, simple non keyed flutes, rebecs, gittern, lute, etc.there were many instruments played in medieval ireland,up till the more recent time period I mentioned, not all were invented in eire ,but were most certainly played there, especially by musicians employed by the rich ,irish aristocracy ,english language would I doubt have been a common used folk language then ....as I said it depends on your definition of traditional itish folk music...!
