7:46 I know it's not a rule everywhere, but I back when I studied architecture there was a rule of thumb to make landings every 8-12 steps where people could stop and rest for some time.
First of all: I consider you to be a god of C:S and I absolutely love this Citie Series. However, I want to point out some issues with the train station design.: 1. It's quite small for a Central Train station. Frankfurt for example got a 21-Platform Train Satation in 1888, the population around 1890 was 180.000 Inhabitants. If you go by this calculation Altengrad would have had a maximum of 43.000 people by the time the train station was build, and sadly the citizen counting mechanism in C:S is trash. 2. There arent enough tracks connetcting the station to the outside world, central train stations are ususally major changing stations as well, connecting different routes. Realistic would be a minimum of 3, but rather 4 tracks as connection to different routes.( (3. I hope you remember that the station was build during the steam ages and there has to be all the necessarry infrastructure around the station, like water towers, sheds for the locos and simply tracks to park locos and carts not in use) I hope this is informative and supportive for you, keep the great work going! feel free to ask additional questions when interested
Good points for 2 and 3, but I have to disagree with 1. Prague Central Station for example was expanded in 1901-1909 to have 8 tracks while the population was over 200k for the city and 500k for the aglomeration in 1900. So Frankfurt being in the centre of an indrustrial revolution might not be the most accurate example for this.
@@FolgoreCZ To support what you say, Buenos Aires got it's original and now gone Central Station (built by the British) with 4 tracks in 1875 having a population of 230.000. By 1920 it had 5 terminus train stations with an average of 12 tracks each and a population of 1.2 million.
Not sure if you're the same person who wrote this on Twitter 1) exactly what others said + I might take any big train station of that era and say that "station in Altengrad is too small compared to X", well I'm pretty sure I could find all kinds of sizes of train stations in this time period, don't have to take only the largest ones as a reference though. Also this station might not be the only one in the city (serving different tracks). 2) Come on, it's not finished, I just wanted to have one track going off the map to have some trains already for the cinematics, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with this single one. I even said in the video that I'll finish it later and probably deal with railroads a lot more. Just be patient, more tracks are coming. And also, like with the previous point, more stations might be in the city serving different tracks (I have some real life references) 3) Sure thing, the station will see most of that (if there are things for this in the workshop), some larger depot is also planed for the city. Also think of it this way, maybe they didn't have the money or enough space to build larger station, maybe the capacity was sufficient, maybe we'll have issues with too many trains converging here later. That's when some expansion of the station will happen, which will nicely fit into the theme of this series, which is the evolution of the city as we go forward in time. And not "just because", but because we'll actually have a genuine real problem with the station's capacity.
@@Akruas Just to chime in on this. Frankfurt a.M. did get it's 'Centralbahnhof' (yes, with C) to replace the former Taunusbahnhof (wich was build in 1839), the Main-Neckar-Bahnhof (build in 1848) and the Main-Weser-Bahnhof (1850) They all lay on the Westside of the former Citywalls and where all part of different operating companies. Main-Necker-Eisenbahn, Taunus Eisenbahn Gesellschaft and Main-Weser-Eisenbahn. Around 1880 the town of Frankfurt needed a better solution than the given one and they build the Centralstation about halb a kilometer due west. That Frankfurt has gotten 21 Plattforms is just the conglomeration of at least 6 differnt operating companies ariving and operating from Centralbahnhof. the acompaning track field in front of it is like a maze with dossens of maintenance buildings and what not. (also some very very unique train movements) Similar to this is the Leipziger Hauptbahnhof - it was replacing a conglomerate of 5 Stations sitting ducks to each other. And yes, Leipzig is way smaler than Frankfurt and still has 23 Platformtracks. + 1 'Museum Track' the Number of Tracks dosen't say a dime about how important a Station is. There are Stations with 4 tracks that see more Traffic than Stations with 10. Same story in Cologne. In Cologne and the City of Deutz (prior to its incorporation in 1888) there where Stations of 5 differenet operators. After some political migilling they demolished the 'Centralbahnhof' and build the new Centralstation on top of it (raised 6 meters) Cologne even got two other stations in the process - West and South. Sadly we can not marvel in the architectural amazingness the Station was back in the day, because war came and went. But thats another story. Berlin didn't even have a Centralstation to begin with. The former 'Lehrter bahnhof' was never considered the Centralstation, albeit it quite litterally sitting in the center of town. the unification of germany made them build a centralstation in its place. - and for being the Centralstation of the biggest City around Germany it's relatively small with 'just' 14 Tracks. (8 above ground, + 4 below ground +2 s-bahn-tracks, also they are build addirional tracks right now) Sorry for that chunk of, pardon, WALL of text. Having said this, I love how the Custom Anim Framework just make the Loco puff her Smoke.
@@@MissYijare that is almost the same story with Prague, also different companies with different railroads ariving into different parts of the city, one major station got demolished (a lot later though, in the 1980's) and there are still projects going on to figure out how to finally solve the railroad situation here (Prague has really difficult terrain for trains) , the Main station became a lot more important rather recently too. And some cities in the country simply don't have the Main train station as the most important one, even though it used to be. So I guess I already spoiled how I want to do things in the game, make it somewhat "messy" at first and then upgrade it later
You are doing amazing job in CS ! I personaly would like to see you planting more trees and plants in the city, especialy between the tram lines and the roads. :)
LOL always when I have to go through the bridge in Brno I am scared some meth addict gonna stab me and yet you managed to make me appreciate it more now :)
It's simple - I could easily make the save file available, but it would be useless without an asset collection, and that is something I'm never going to do, as it's crazy time consuming with how retarded Steam is with creating collections. Also at this point I have a lot of roads and some assets created locally just for this project, I would need to upload all of them to the Workshop (contact all the original authors to ask for permisions first), then download them and then switch them for the downloaded version, otherwise you would not be even able to load it ... It's just painfuly frustrating to do all this, not to mention that only a handful of people would actually be able to load this save because of hardware
You've got a real knack for making things feel like they were naturally made there when you just place them or plan them. That little plaza sort of thing.. I can totally picture that simply being there in real life!
So impressive! I sat here, alone at my computer and literally clapped my appreciation for your artistry throughout the ending cinematics. Thanks, Akruas!
Akruas, I binged watched all seven episodes available at this point. Admittedly, I'm more than likely going to rewatch them each time you release a new episode. You gameskill in C:S is 10/10, and I love the narations and little history lessons we get from you! Keep up the tremendous work man! :D
4:20 that corner building looks exacty like a building i recognize from half-life 2, which i think was also just outside the train station or at some part just after that
This is late, but you’re right about the walls. Only a small portion of London was inside the walls, most were villages and towns outside of the walls that were consumed by the expansion.
I mostly need intersections detailed with cobblestone and the game would (it does for the Paris cobblestone roads for example) just distort the texture so it looks weird, especially for the "big" intersections that I have with the custom networks. As for just segments, yeah that would work, but I'm lazy to learn how to apply my own textures for roads.
great job. I have only one small suggestion for you: to lower the vehicles speed a bit (especially trams and trucks). Your cinematics will get even better
Please continue this series until well into the future! I would love to see a mix of cyberpunk and 1920s! Would be the first time someone ever did that in CS
When I build the growable older looking buildings that I downloaded from the workshop (some of these from Titan), they grow and change by themselves. This changes my old town into a more modern looking city !! HOW DO I STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING ?!?!
With the missing tram lines there is a condominium system where there are 2 rails and in the middle there is the power lines it was common in the U.K. when we had trams 🚃
I see, similar thing is in Pilsen, but I think it's a bit late for that here, as the place where the old walls used to be are already finished, but I'll see If I can fit a park somewhere else around the old town
Nice video. But I got a question, In 6:38 how to manage the stairs not follow the train and going below ground level. I'm using move it but I'm not sure how to set that up. I've tried press the page down button but the stair keeps going above ground level. Ps. I don't use procedural object.
I'm not really a fan of the plants in the edges of the square in front of the station. Maybe put them a bit more away from the edge, or around the statue? Love the build btw. Is there any chance I can visit the city? So beautyful 😍

pick a building, so it's ready to be placed and simply click the procedural objects button, that I have in the upper right corner (not sure if that's default), otherwise if you're talking about enabling mods in general, just check the button in the content manager
I think, tha a bigger trains staition would not be off the limit. A city like this, would probably a big junction. Ans stations of this size had normally pass thoughs, so a lokomotive can be set onto the other end off the train. Also there should be olapces a yard near of it.
