Hello! Quick note! While editing this video, I noticed that my brain decided to not only mispronounce the name Sadeas - but to also, absolutely butcher it. 😅 As a result, whenever you hear me say something like Say-day-eez, I am actually referring to Sadeas. 🤦🏽♀️ My apologies! I’m not sure how it is even possible to come up with my pronunciation of his name, lol - but alas, I made it happen 😭😂. I’ll get it right next time! As the back of the book says - “Journey Before Destination” 😂! (Although I’m pretty sure that’s not meant for crazy mispronunciations, lol).
The narrators and Brandon pronounce them SAD-ee-us, AY-doh-lynn, YAS-nuh, SILL, but you can pronounce them anyway you like. I can be hard to switch after you've been saying it a certain way. Can I just say that I'm so excited for the journey you are undertaking. You are in for a treat!
Don't sweat the pronunciations, we know who you are talking about. 😊 isn't it a treat to see differing recommendations for the same name? We all read it in our heads a different way. All the best!
"Why does Szeth have such a tragic everything" 😂 Yes, perfect way to describe him! I agree, LOVE Bridge Four and the transformation they're going through.
I am LIVING for this, one of my favorite things about being obsessed with Stormlight is seeing new readers’ reactions as they become Invested in the series 😁
I discovered your channel because the first video for this series. And I have to admit that it feels so refreshing to listen to new people discover this amazing world. I love your takes too.
I have read all the Cosmere books, so it's extra fun to listen to your theories when i know the answers :D The first time i read Twok i had so many theories and questions! It was a really fun time. I am excited to follow your journey that is Stormlight Archive!
Another great video!! Quick note on pronunciation -- who cares! I mean on one hand I get it, I try to pronounce things "correctly" too but also just remember not to feel bad about getting anything "wrong." As long as we know who you mean it's fine. Even Sanderson says to pronounce everything however you want !! That said, the word "chasm" starts with a K sound :) Anyway -- I love how invested you are, and how actively you're reading. So much thought put into what everything means, lots of cool predictions. Some are right, some are wrong, and that's half the fun!! Overall though, your take on everything is pretty perfect. Like regardless of predictions, your assessment of everything is spot on, and you're worried about the right things. The positive emotional beats are hitting you just right too -- yes Navani is a *queen* (literally and figuratively), yes Dalinar is a badass, yes Szeth is tragic af, and yes Kaladin is a beacon of hope in an incredibly terrible situation for Bridge Four! All those things!! It's awesome to see how much you're enjoying everything -- looking forward to part 3!
The second part is what really sold me. I love Dalinar sooo much and more of Kal and Navani and Adolin aghhhhh. It’s kind of the beginning of the build up. Can’t wait for you to experience your first sanderlanche!
It’s so fun to see that you’re so invested in the story! Yes, Kaladin’s storyline is amazing. And good job on understanding the Alethi mindset and background. That’s the right way through which to view Dalinar and everything around him. You’re going to love part 3!
I cannot gush enough about how much I love these books, but one of the things that stands out is how deeply compelling and interesting so many characters are. I also feel SO BAD for Szeth.. and I absolutely love (and maybe crush on a lil) Dalinar. Also! I didn't know you'd read any other Cosmere! Hoid is my fav character from anything Sanderson. One of my fav scenes that wasn't mentioned in this vid was the King's Wit roasting all the Lighteyes as they come in but he just greets Dalinar fairly normally
I'm also reading The Way of Kings for the first time, and it's great to hear your thoughts as I go! I feel the same about Elhokar, I've no patience for him 😅 Dalinar is one of my favorite characters so far
girl. you've got no idea! it's been a while since i read the way of kings, but your review brought back some memories of the things i was thinking about when i read it.
Kalidan is my favorite character and the best in the whole book. His back story, what he goes through, how he turns this little team into amazing people just shows how well Brandon can write a book like this.
Do you remember the midnight essence in the Tress book? The critters they could make deals with for water? Those sure seemed like the midnight essence in Dalinar's vision- when he protected the family of the farm. Hoid isnt the only Tress-familiar thing that appears here.
Yes!! I love this about her review also. She brings the excitement for the story that I'm also beginning to relive in preparation for Wind and Truth. I'm loving her perspective on the characters and the plot-lines in this and her last video, as it reminds me exactly how I felt when reading TWOK last year.
Loving this series of discussions, I've been wanting content exactly like this as i prep for book 5, keep up the amazing work! As far as rankings go, for me each entry has been better than the previous. Enjoy the journey!
The way of kings absolutely amazing! On my first read, I remember thinking at times that parts of the story could have been condensed like you have said. However I believe now that it is all important and Sanderson's slow burn in this book is executed perfectly to produce one of the most cathartic, rewarding, heartwarming, emotional and satisfying endings to a book I have EVER experienced. Ive subscribed and I cant wait to hear more of your updates, I've enjoyed hearing your thoughts so far. Happy reading!
This series is literally my favorite of all time!!!! So, my absolute favorite characters are Kaladin and Teft ❤❤ So, I grinned so hard when you said you loved how grouchy Teft was :) And this book is probably my favorite of all four that are already released! But all four of them are soo exciting and enjoyable! And he has released like 30 some odd chapters online of book 5 and I am already so beyond hooked! I actually have requested time off to read it when it releases!!! I’m just so in awe of his world building, his characters, and his ability to make the reader feel so much empathy for so many characters in the book!!!
I'm enjoying being able to experience another first read through of this book through someone else's eyes! I wonder if you'll be able to pick up on Hoid, he's quite a silly guy isn't he? Very funny and fourth wall beaking at times. Always enjoying a disguise while being instrumental to the story in some way.
I have never felt so attached to a fictional character as I feel to Kaladin. If somehow this series' ending is garbage but Kaladin is happy, then I'm happy too
These are some of my favorite videos on booktube. Reminds me of the strength of the first book as I'm getting ready for Wind and Truth. Look forward to the next instalment.
I love hearing your perspectives as you jump into the series! You have a lot of good insight on the characters, it feels like you are a character-driven reader! Really well done video 👏
It's hard to remember just part two when you've read the whole book and the sequel books that are coming. I'm going to say from what you are saying it's a lot of setup and any great story needs these setup parts to actually succeed. Were you say it's long I say it's like one piece you need the bread crumb chapters for the payoff later.
I love the correlation you made with One Piece! It’s interesting, because both One Piece and The Way of Kings are some of the few stories that I am open to being that patient with! I agree with your take. Both stories are so good, that even though I am not the biggest fan of long setups, I know that it will be worth it in the end (it honestly already is!)!
You can always trust Kaladin! But you're right, lots of secrets 😏 My first time through I was pretty bored by most of the story lines other than Kal, so I'm glad you are getting so into it!
I've had a giant smile on my face throughout this whole video 🥰Not gonna say anything about the storylines but I gotta say how much I love the Rock appreciation. Hell yeah that's my guy!
Love how much you're enjoying this when you had some issues with other Sanderson books. Can't wait for you to get some reveals and see what you think of them.
“I don’t know if I’m supposed to be this confused” yes, yes you are 😂😂😂 don’t worry, it’ll all make sense soon enough. Journey before destination 😊 also, yes it can feel a little long at times, but every sentence in the book has a purpose, and the payoff makes it all worth it imo!
I started Stormlight Archive with the audiobook, if I had read the actual books my pronunciations for all the names would be all over the place 😂 Your pronunciations are pretty good. Sadeus Sah-Dee-Us Szeth Zz-Eth Jasnah - Yas-Nah Shallan - Sha-lawn Kalak - Kah-lack Looking forward to more of your read through. I didn’t like/connect with Shallan all that much on my first time reading the books. But I’ve been rereading it, to get ready for Wind and Truth, and the 2nd reread you pick up a lot of stuck with her.
@@AmberAliseReads Sandersons first Cosmere novel was Elantris and Hoid appears as a cameo.
