"Dalinar, It's going to be very hard for me to talk about his parts without getting super emotional" I want to come back to this quote after she reads book 3.
The fact that you can re-read these books after reading the next one in the series, and each time gain whole new insights into a ton of things you already read... yeah. You're gonna have so much to think and feel about.
A big part of Sanderson's philosophy is that broken people, who have psychological issues are capable of healing and doing the most extraordinary things. There is a theme of understanding and dealing with real issues, so Kaladin struggles with real depression. Not fantasy book depression, not being down a little, but real depression. Other characters have other issues, things like Autism, Personality disorders, etc... You will love these people like they're family members though.
Hey Amber, this year (at 35 years old) I picked up the hobby of reading. I read 9 books this year which is a huge deal for me. It’s been an incredible experience but something had been missing. Someone to share the experience with as none of my friends or family read fantasy. I started Way of Kings within a day or two of your first video on it and have been keeping up with you since. So in short thank you so much for doing this series. It’s meant a lot to me to have someone to “talk” to about it in real time. What an exceptional/exceptional journey so far.
My favorite part of people’s first reads of Stormlight is how wrong they are but it’s interesting because most of us were wrong in different ways. Different assumptions and interpretations but the story is still amazing
That is the beauty of Sanderson's writing. It is because you know there are twists coming, and you don't always predict them, but the twist pays off even better than we expected.
I've been watching Stormlight Archive recaps as I am starting Wind and Truth. Your videos have taken me back to reading it again more than any others. Way of Kings might be my favorite in the series, but there are so many things that are set up in Way of Kings that pay off in the other books.... there are so many things you've mentioned you hope to happen that are going to pay off in even better ways. It is going to blow you away.
Dalinar confronting Sadeas and giving the shardblade for the bridgemen is probably my favorite scene from a book ever, actually it's close with another one in book 3, Oathbringer.
I am 100% in agreement with you! I have never had a scene in a book impact me the way that that scene did. I already know that it will forever be my favorite scene in a book!
I wasn’t prepared for a big epic like The Way of Kings the first time I read it. I think because of that a lot of things went over my head. Regardless, It is still one of my favorite books of all time. I need to reread it. I’m currently on book 5 and then I plan to reread the whole series before book six. I have plenty time to do that.
When you teared up on that line with Dalanor about the price of a life, it hit me so hard and brought me back to when I also first read that part in the book. Such a relatable experience! I love your journey with this Book! Now onward to the next!
I had been waiting for this video. Great job. I'm glad you liked it. Can't wait for the Words of Radiance blog. P.S. Girl, we need to get you some more subs.
I’ve been waiting for an update from you! I’m so happy this book worked for you. It’s so good and Brandon is so intentional with everything. And it’s the character arcs that hit so well here. As an aside… Words of Radiance is generally considered to be even better. And it’s best to re-read once you’re a bit further along. These books have insane re-read value, both for the series as a whole and for the Cosmere as a whole. So much is foreshadowed or hinted at or re-contextualized later on. It’s going to be a new reading experience. Enjoy Words of Radiance!
I have seen that about Words of Radiance in a variety of comments! I am soooo happy to see this, because it feels like it will be impossible to top The Way of Kings (although at this point, I am done doubting Brandon Sanderson, lol)! I can't wait to start Words of Radiance!
@ All five books are special in specific ways and are “the best” at a certain aspect of storytelling. If you’d poll people, you’ll find that all five books are listed as someone’s favorite, followed by every possible permutation of the other books. So it’s really only minimal differences and personal preferences we’re talking about. And within that margin, Words of Radiance has a slight edge. You seem so invested in the characters and in what they’re going through, I’m excited for you to continue the series!
The standoff between Dalinar and Sadeas is still one of the most emotional scenes I’ve read to date. Also of note is the conversation Kaladin has with Dalinar after the fact. I love how invested you already are in this world, and I’m thrilled to keep watching you go through these great books. The journey will be long, but I assure you it is 100% worth it. Keep it up!!!!!
the full on chills I got at 'Are Windspren attracted to wind or do they make it" and Syl's realization that she's an Honor spren. And then 'We have to go back' Also look up the Way of Kings 'opening credits' fan video by GuroStoryBoards, it's absolutely AMAZING
This book and ESPECIALLY the end, that exchange between Kal and Dalinar… my goodness. When you reminded me of that moment by reading the scene, I got teary eyed. Incredible.
Man, I love this video series so much Amber! I forgot how much the final 100 pages or so was just pure catharsis. Dalinar gets his self-assuredness back, Kaladin finally has something go his way, Elhokar gets put in his place after 900 pages of rampant paranoia. The list goes on
Girl, you brought back all the emotions!!! This is still my favorite book of the series, with Rhythm of War in close second, but I think I am in the minority on the second one....
I love how enthusiastic you are while talking about these characters. I remember the first time I read the books, and I didn't have theories that ended being true too, but it is fun hearing you say one thing and my mind go "hmm... let's see what she'd say when it does(n't) happen. " 😂 Don't forget, "Journey before destination." Keep enjoying the books 💜
Dalinars "it is time for us to fight" speech still gives me chills. Other moments that make this one of my favorite endings to a book are the "we have to go back" scene, and "what is the price of a life "? Thank you for sharing your reactions, this has helped me relive all of those same emotions i felt the first time reading! Im currently reading RoW, and the rest of the series has been a masterpiece! High octane action, but also very thought provoking, philosophical, full of wisdom, and of course full of well executed payoffs and emotional moments just like book one. Ive personally found these books to be amazing self help books in addition to everything else. Cant wait to hear your reaction to words of radiance!
Thank you for this awesome comment! I am glad that your journey with this series has gone so well! I love that we all get to experience this amazing series separate but together all at the same time!
It's great to hear you enjoyed this book so much. I will say, I have enjoyed each entry in this series more than the previous entry I hope you enjoy the rest of the journey
Right now the interludes are like stray threads... they start to weave into the main story more and more and just adding to everything. This is your first Cosmere book? You may need some more quick background to really process books 2 and 3 and what Honor and Odium are really doing - do you know what Adonalsium and the Shards are?
I have read Tress of the Emerald Sea! A few people have recommended that I read Warbreaker before reading the second book. I am currently trying to decide if I should or not!
@@AmberAliseReads I'm trying to read Tress right now with my daughter. So there's crossover in the Cosmere, think about it as being like the MCU. Reading Stormlight is a little like watching the Avengers. Whether to read Warbreaker is a bit like whether you want to take a break to watch Antman. There are a few things you'll get in the Avengers that you wouldn't have gotten if you hadn't have watched the origin movies. Warbreaker is earlier, set on a different planet, with a different magic system. It's a much quicker read, Sanderson is a lot more florid and early in his prose. I didn't notice any crossover stuff from Warbreaker to Stormlight 2 until I reread both. There's definitely more in Stormlight 3, but even then you don't need to read Warbreaker to really enjoy it. I think Words of Radiance (Stormlight 2) will definitely hit you a lot harder and emotional than Warbreaker will and it's definitely a better book. Ultimately, what I love about Sanderson is that his themes and what he's trying to say about humanity will leave you feeling better about yourself, about life and recharge your inner emotional battery. That's going to be in everything he writes, so in the end, you might want to just read everything. Anyway, welcome to the Cosmere fandom! I really enjoyed your video.
Way of Kings is my favorite of the series in that it has like you said that perfect 900 page build up where everything came together in a perfect way . I'm glad you liked Shallan, many people I talk to don't like her, but she's one of the most interesting imo. Word of Radiance will answer many of the questions you brought up and bring some catharsis near the end.
The Stormlight Archive series has become one of my favorite experiences in my entire life, and I am so happy being able to relive so many MOMENTS through the eyes of people experiencing it for the first time, and I'm very glad to see more people getting to enjoy this as much as you do. I'm so excited to watch your journey of Words of Radiance and the rest of the series 💨 Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination. 💙
I love seeing people enjoying a thing I enjoyed, seeing the things in it that I loved, puzzling over the mysteries I puzzled over even though I now know most of the answers. Keep reading. Also, if you want to know how stuff is pronounced, listen to a chapter or two from the audiobook.
Ahhhhhhh you made it!! So happy for you, and thank you for sharing the joy and pain with us!! Like everyone else, you got me teared up with the Kaladin and Dalinar stuff. Just feeling the feels all over again! As always, you’re thinking about everything in the right way. When you talk about predictions or just trying to figure stuff out, you’re not always right but you’re asking the right QUESTIONS. You’re right where you’re supposed to be and there’s so much more to come!! Looking forward to Words of Radiance part 1 soon 😊😊😊
I am so happy you enjoyed it so much!! havent even watched the video fully yet, but your opening statement of this possibly being your favorite book ever is extremely relatable, especially the part about it changing your view of things. I think this book, book 4 of the series, piranesi and one piece are the pieces of media that have changed my views on the world and myself the most (for the better). Kaladins journey throughout the book has also been genuinely helpful with my own depression, especially any kaladin-wit interaction. Kaladin and Nico robin are my 2 comfort characters, although at this point I mean that more in the "please i want THEM to be comfortable". Have fun with words of radiance!
What a beautiful comment! I love that this book helped you with your depression and I hope that your are still constantly overcoming it! I completely resonate with you saying that One Piece and The Way of Kings have changed your views on the world and yourself! I feel the same way! Now you have me wanting to add Piranesi to my reading list!
I really loved this book. Which is funny because i was intimidated by how big it was, so much so i kept putting it off. But, man, once i started, i couldn't stop. I'm probably going to read it again after your review series.
I love how invested you are in this story and the characters. Get read for Words of Radiance! Not to set too much expectation, but some think that's the best one of the 5 books.
If I had never heard about Stormlight Archive before watching your videos about this book, you would have me running out to buy this entire series asap. YOu've done such a wonderful job, not just of summarising and reviewing this book, but of inviting us into your personal, emotional experience of reading it. Girl you got me emotional at times. Thank you!

Loved how much you loved this story. Yep, that moment when Dalinar gives up his shardblade is just amazing, and you can tell he means it when he considers it a bargain. Can't wait for you to continue, although if you need a break before the next one, I might suggest giving Warbreaker a go since it will explain some stuff upcoming. But I also think people overstate that case - yes some things might not be entirely clear, but also it's a massive fantasy series - some things just are magic and you can accept that. So only if you need a break before getting into the next tome.

Welcome to your first sanderlanch. I'm glad to see you survived. I am about to hit the book 5 sanderlanche and II ma afraid it might kill me. Send help. (Don't actually send help, im fine)
I did!! It is amazing to see how much this book affected so may of us! I think it will take me a week to stop crying every time that I think about Dalinar! 😭😂
I am so happy this book was a success with you! It’s been wonderful and emotional reliving this story with you. Looking forward to your thoughts on the next book!💗
I loved book one, I immediately jumped into book two. Book one is a bit slow for people who do not binge read. I feel like when you go slower, you end up not catching momentum until the very end where Kaladin goes to save Dalinar. So a lot of the book can feel like it takes forever. For me though, I was thrilled with it.
I feel like I'm currently struggling with enjoying reading, because I overthink every sentence. Instead of enjoying the ride I stop and analyze and try to predict where it'll go next. I want to let go of that mindset
So glad to get more of your thoughts and theories! Can't wait to see how you react when certain things are revealed. Bring on Words of Radiance! Going to be a great ride.
As good as this book is, it is far from my favorite in the series. Mostly because I'm not a fan of whiney kaladin lol. Book 2 is great, as is book 3. I don't know how they keep getting better. I'm about to start 4
I just finished Wind and Truth which is the 5th stormlight book and it's now tied as my #1 favorite series ever, alongside One Piece which before this point was only tied with Berserk
I'm still reading WOT and I already feel sad. It feels like everything is ending and everyone's accepting their circumstances and selves. It's so bittersweet to me. Their individual arcs, mannn
I don't know if you all realize how excited reading comments like this make me! I am (dramatically speaking, haha), terrified that I will never read a book as good as The Way of Kings again.😂 I know that the rest of the series will be amazing though, and reading these comments has me pumped to continue!
If you think this book was a roller coaster you haven't even hit the lift Hill yet. You still have four more books to go. And any author that can bring somebody to tears has a true Talent in my opinion. I'm looking forward to see what you think about words of radiance!
Ahhh, I can't wait! (Although I am soooo worried about the safety of all of these amazing characters!) Also, you worded that beautifully! Yes, I completely agree - it is a magical talent to bring someone to tears!
@@AmberAliseReads I’m betting on 2032, but yeah. Something like that. Brandon has a bunch of other books (three Mistborn books, two Elantris sequels) that he wants to write next, before starting the book 6-10 sequence. We’ll be getting a lot of Cosmere in the interim, and then Stormlight kicks off again. You’ll start to appreciate at some point that this isn’t even a “regular” 10-book series. Brandon is so much more ambitious than that.

You are going to love the rest of the series so much!
I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m excited for your videos on the remaining books.
I love your enthusiasm! Can’t wait for Words of Radiance 😀
I’m so glad you loved it sm!!! I was literally crying with you at the end 😢❤
Such a wonderful review. I've enjoyed your breakdown of each part. I look forward to many more of your reviews.
Excited to follow you on your stormlight journey. I am excited to see your reaction to Words of Radiance! Subscribed!
Thank you so much!
Yay can wait for your review of the next one. Finished Wind and Truth and thinking i might gor for a full 📚 re-read
I love your reactions to the book and how passionate you are!
I love this video and your takes! I first read this in college as a teenager, and it has impacted me for life.
Thank you Douglas! It is beautiful to read that this book has impacted your life! I already feel the same way!
I love hearing your thoughts about my favorite series! So excited for you to see what happens in the next ones!
So glad to get more of your thoughts and theories! Can't wait to see how you react when certain things are revealed. Bring on Words of Radiance! Going to be a great ride.
SO you see why its my favorite book of all time
You chose the perfect favorite book! 😭
My favourite Stormlight book is the second one btw !
And Way of Kings isn't even the best book in the series!!! Glad you loved it!!!
As good as this book is, it is far from my favorite in the series. Mostly because I'm not a fan of whiney kaladin lol. Book 2 is great, as is book 3. I don't know how they keep getting better. I'm about to start 4
You’re gonna flip your lid once you get answers to your questions. Can’t wait to hear about them!
Finished Way Of Kings last weekend. Halfway through Words of Radiance
That's awesome! I love that we're on this journey at the same time! I hope that you're enjoying the series!
Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination. 🙅♂️
Welcome to the journey!
Are you thinking of reading warbreaker before words of radiance?
I am definitely considering it! I haven't made a decision yet, but I am tempted to!
Just saying that Kaladin remembering his brother death is a real vision much as Dalinar's about remote past except while awake.
Wait what?! I completely missed that!
Taravangian: Tear (like rip) uh van gee en.
Omg, thank you!!
Later we get the full story of Tien's death from Tien
4:55 "Ya" not "Ja".😊
Why do I keep doing that?? 😂 Thank you so much!
Just finished book 5. No book 6 until 2033 😢
Is that the actual release date?!
