Honestly, now that I know how ridiculous his Guard is, I’m more okay with him not being an aggressive damage monster. His whole gimmick in Breath of the Wild and as a Champion in general is that his defense is unbreakable. I’m glad they actually leaned on that insanely hard in this.
If he was both an unstoppable tank and had DPS similar to the likes of Impa and Sidon, I'd imagine there'd be no reason to not play Daruk. I think his nerfed damage is fair.

I managed to use Daruk and solo a Hinox and three Malice Guardians at the same time by myself. If you know what you're doing, Daruk is an absolute tank.
He's the one who saves my ass when things get dire in high level missions, his guard is insane. Every other member of my group is at like half a heart and this absolute unit is at almost full health lmao.
I love daruk’s kit because its so different. Its refreshing to get to calm down, hold guard, and snack on something while picking my moment. Its very goron!
Many don’t like Daruk, but he is amazing as long as there are no time limits Not because of his speed, but because Guarding with Protection and attacking at right time can take time But if used correctly, he can do well in Time Limit ones too
For multiplayer his Daruk stasis combining with Revali stasis is vital for hitting bokoblins, maybe Daruk stasis has a really large range, and Revail's arrows can allow to hit a wide range to get rid of groups of bokoblin, or groups highlighted red on the map. Timing of Revali's raining arrows, while Daruk is using stasis to freeze bokoblins.
With Daruk I noticed that his C5 can potentially stunlock certain enemies. They'll get raised on the magma stone that's created, and when it disappears as you make another one, will throw the enemy off-balance just in time for another C5 to land and create another one. I've definitely done this with Lynels, but it gets hard to keep going for a long time, since you need to time it just right.
Thanks didn't know about this. If you ever use the fairies, her combo 4 does this too. You can stunlock most enemies naturally, but if not their 2 combo puts an movement debuff and then you're good
Adding some Attack Speed seals to his weapon can make up for the timing. I’ve got a total 9% on his weapon right now, and I can almost completely stunlock Lynels. They might be able to break free with a really fast strike, but another attack speed seal, or a more powerful one, will probably make it a total lock down
@@spiderspit1911 Honestly I just did what I do for most levels. Overlevel the character to about 10-15 levels above recommendation, and give them a weapon with at least 90 damage. (Note, the overleveling is mainly because I play pretty much exclusively on very hard difficulty)
This is an amazing series. It gives me solid direction for characters I’ve been neglecting and always makes me want to run back and play Age of Calamity more.
Daruk was definitely my favorite character to use as someone who’s only played the Hyrule Warriors games. He fits perfectly with my strategy of jamming my face into an opponent until the die.
Thanks! Daruk is one of my mains and I was feeling awful after spending hours grinding a weapon with strong attack ++ and then reading so many people online suggesting min maxing attack speed ignoring the optimal green bonus. He'd be a perfect character if he could cancel stasis imo.
I feel like they didn't let him stasis cancel on purpose because they realized how powerful that would be. Like just imagine his C6 over and over on a frozen enemy(fairly certain with the correct timing that could even be turned into a stunlock).
the thing I enjoy about Daruk is making magma pillars around the arena and lure bosses into them. Once the weakpoint gauge reveals itself, smack it around a couple times and then detonate. Honestly, he is the only character that doesn't need seals to help him out, though it does make him boring to play as everyone else is fast pace, graceful, and/or flashy
I don't know why this isn't talked about in the video, nor is it talked about seemingly anywhere else, but you can actually wall jump off of Daruk's magma pillars. You can place one down, jump off of it, and then midair combo at an enemy's head to hit their weakness gauge whether or not they're currently vulnerable. He basically has a portable headshot machine, and not many people seem to think of it.
Apparently this game has four characters who can parry, not three like many think. Of course, there’s one-handed weapon Link, Urbosa, and Riju, but Daruk is the fourth. If you activate his guard at just the right time, the parry sequence plays, and instead of his normal guard animation, he has a unique pose while the parry animation sequence plays out. Almost like one of those power stances where some character is powering up.
I managed to counter with Daruk and impa somehow. With Impa, only once. With Daruk, twice on the same stage. I thought only Link and Urbosa could do it, but I don't know if there's a function or a glitch in the game.

Really? I used Link as a main for Lynels. To me his agility movement and arrows 🏹 makes fighting 💪 them feel like I'm Jet Li against some Juggernauts. Like I'm Liu Kang fighting a bunch of Montaros.
this man solo'd the entirety of the game for me, even the guardian lasers or (SPOILER!) Ganon can't do anything against a Daruk player pressing the shield button. only weakness I've seen was against waterblight Ganon where his shield wasn't enough to block the chargeable water fountain move (but you can block every other move)
Early game, using Attack Speed +s and some power up seals his ability to break weak point gauges is busted 👌 He may be outclassed in the post game but he helped me enormously in the story and was one of my favorites.

It’s a shame Daruk can’t cancel out of his stasis...I believe there’s only two other characters who can’t, but I could be wrong - Bow Zelda and Master Kohga. Zelda gets a pass IMO because her stasis does a weirdly large amount of WPG damage, but Kohga’s is maybe even worse than Daruk?

@@shankysays2545 In Kohga's later unlocks, you can find it much easier to enable his unique glowy blast attack while doing heavy weakpoint damage. He ended up being a pretty strong enemy slayer without me realizing it.
@@TurbulentEitri Yeah, his C4 when expanded can force out the weakpoint gauge, and when taken to the end causes his Frustration Meter to max out, allowing you to quickly follow up with the Big-Glowy Blast
You forgot to mention that yunobo would show colors at certain points 👉 in his attacks 👊. And based on the colors he'd strike with the heavy attacks such as certain colors belonging to one of his 6 strong attacks. Of course you'd have to turn on his color attack thing first in order to use it.

No, I think Teba is the slowest runner (ironically enough because he flies). I was playing him and CPUs Sidon and Yunobo were going way faster than me.
At the end despite his minor flaws it is really nice to see the big slow guy get a good moveset after what they did to Darunia in the previous Hyrule Warriors
A strategy I use to shred weak point gauges is to use c6, dodge cancel to use his c2, and then press ZR to make 5 exploding pillars on the weak point revealed by his c6.
Will say: Daruk's DLC Enhanced Ability gives him the thing he needed most, a higher skill ceiling and a Weak Point Revealer. Basically, he gets a Parry Mechanic.
13:40 I think they gave it Dash Attack because, like Riju, you can possibly spam dash X constantly, which would make Daruk more of shielder AND hit-and-runner. Catch is that he's not as good as Riju in the hit-and-run department.
I must admit I haven't put that much emphasis on guarding in this game because often I tried to fish for flurry rush dodging instead. It's good to know give guarding more of a chance with him, didn't even notice the extend of his invinciblity, since his at a glance kit is very eh compared to link and the other champtions. Is it up to preference to have Daruk flurry rush or fish for a strong attack I opening?
I noticed that his boulders did damage. Now I prefer Link and Impa because I'm a hack and slash kinda player, but I always used the strengths of whomever I play with, even Hestu (who I actually have fun to playing with). And the thing I noticed about Daruk was his shield 🛡 and his boulders lava attacks. The shield 🛡 was obvious because it'd make the game look bad if the obvious red circle 🔴 he was in was penetrated just as easily as everyone else's, especially with the history of how thay made link and his shield work in the past generations.
Another fantastic character guide! Was pretty skeptical about Daruk at first because I love love love my stasis....but this is a great break down of what other strengths he has and more! Will definitely be picking him up more now that I got a better understanding, thanks for this!
Daruk is my main, I know enough about how to play him to be unstoppable. The only instances when I CAN be stopped is in a level where you can't play as Daruk.
I've enjoyed my time using Daruk whenever I feel like it. Of course my crowning achievement with him is using his barrier to help weather the storm of, and I kid you not, five to six Malice Guardians at the same time all constantly firing lasers at me. Probably one of the most satisfying cheeses I've done in recent memory!
With attack speed up, you can easily lock mobs in a weak point state. 4x regular and 1strong attack where he flips into a ramp will stagger enemies and expose their weakpoint
I started out with a bad impression of daruk as all I could think about was how slow and sluggish darunia was but once I actually tried him out I was pleasantly surprised at how fun he actually is, can't say the same thing about the other goron in this game though, because we really needed another rng based character cause lana(gate) was so much fun in the first game
With the time stasis rune, if you are to setup pillars before using it, the damage increases, more the merrier as they say. Noticed this earlier when forgetting to destroy the remaining pillars as they get destroyed during use.
considering his guard is almost unbreakable except for the lynel blasts hes always my default go to for those hair width missions, especially the expert one
It's incredible how under rated this god level tank is, his final charge attack destroys mobs and he can stun lock and block nigh on anything. If he could dodge cancel stasis he would be op so it fits he can't.

Having never played a Warriors game before, and coming from playing mostly Souls and Souls-likes, Daruk is a perfect beginner character, especially against bosses. Just turtle in shield and swing a massive Ultra Great Sword around haha. Feels just like the first Dark Souls haha.
I use daruks 3rd strong attack and explode the ramp instead of using it and it does good damage to the weak point gauge, it did more damage the the roll attack to the weak point
Personally I find Daruk's Stasis is so bad that his remote bomb becomes the preferred rune for weakpoint damage, plus the pillars it sets up are closer and more likely to be useful.
You mention a lot of the fights against bosses. If you can, also what would you use to clear a map of all the enemies? I personally prefer to farm materials with the shieka sensor seal and clearing out a full map is a lot of fun :) Daruk is pretty slow for that compared to Link or Impa for instance
What attack do you use for Impa to clear out maps? Gosh I have difficulty using her to clear enemies. I just use her regular attacks with her clones but that don't kill enemies instantly. Her c6 neither. The best characters to clear out enemies in my opinion are the Great Fairies, Teba and Revali. Followed by Link.
To answer your question, I use his c6 to clear out the map plus ZR. But yeah, he excel more at defeating multiple bosses at the same time than clearing out maps. He's pretty average at that, though not as low as some characters considering he's larger and have a more 360⁰ range for his C6's strong attack. Most characters' attacks are only one directional.
I cannot be convinced that anyone on the receiving end of Daruk’s strong dash attack has any right to be alive after that. Having a giant man of rocks launch himself into the air, then come crashing back down like a meteor right on top if you…
I don't know about you guys but I prefer Daruk than the other 3 champions especially when you're against bosses. He becomes more stronger in comparison to others due to Daruk's protection that offers defense against almost all attacks. I always spam 4YX (I don't have max atk spd yet from weapons so I don't know if 5YX at the end is better). Very effective at stunlocking bosses especially lynels and taluses. His only weakness like what others said is the ability to cancel stasis. But who cares about that if you don't allow bosses to attack you to begin with.
Except other characters have stun lock combos as well, and can fully use Stasis, and their stun locks are generally faster... Which means if you get hit by an arrow or random attack as Daruk, you're in a bad spot without Stasis to fix things... And the trick with Stasis is not only can you use it to hold weak points, but stasis an enemy and time it well to reveal their weak point for an infinite combo starter. Most attacks you defend with Daruk's protection can be guarded by others though they get a shield break, which isn't a problem 99% of the time, so his defense falls off pretty quickly or just learn how to dodge the attacks and you have a better Daruk's Protection which auto-exposes weak points and gives you a bunch of free attacks. Everything he does is less then the others, which is his drawback.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 generally speaking yes. Especially if you always use Link or Impa which are powerhouses. At the end it depends on your playstyle, how you master every character and the situation. For example Daruk is very effective in small spaces and close quarters in which Revali will have more difficulty. Enlightened Zelda can't cancel stasis too but yet she's one of the most powerful characters albeit she has her own type of gameplay. Her stasis is not meant to be used as a combo starter but as a combo finisher. That stasis drains a lot of WPG.
For example, there was a time that I was on a mission where I was against more than 5 guardians on very hard. I had difficulty playing even as Impa or Mipha which are two of my favourite characters to always play beside Link. Daruk on the other hand singlehandedly defeated all of them. I think it was more than 8-10 guardians that Daruk killed that were just keep coming at me. His C5 attack is just great at keeping enemies stunlocked infinitely if you put attack speed on your weapon. And his Daruk's protection is great at keeping close to your enemy to counter immediately their attacks without getting damage. At the end you can stunlock bosses with any characters especially if you have attack speed. The only difference is that Daruk don't have stasis cancel. But he don't need that if you have a c5 instead to always use, considering that most characters' stunlock combo is C6 which is much slower. Daruk don't need to wait for an enemy to attack and use stasis to start a combo. His c5 attack do that job for him.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 and it's not true that most characters can shield break. Only Link, Rija and Urbosa can do that. And even with that, their backs are exposed. Try shielding and doing flurry rush when you're up against many bosses especially at small spaces where the camera angle sucks. And I don't agree that he's slow. He's not one of the fastest but he's fairly fast just like what the uploader of the video said.
I wondered for the longest time why Daruk was the only champion whose special ability wasn't fully integrated into his playstyle. Never noticed he had a special block until now.
I agree that strong attack is super good on daruk but he also really needs attack speed so he can stun lock so I do 2 attack speed and 2 strong attack perfectly balanced as all things should be
Definitely. He outstands many characters when the situation is against many bosses. I tried Impa on that mission on very hard and I was killed many times even though she's the second strongest to Link. I played as Daruk and bam, I defeated all of them in one go with no damage! Just use his shield when they're attacking seeing you cannot heal and use YYYYX to always put them on stunlock if you have attack speed on your weapon. The latter is even more effective if they're close to each other to save time.
Are you going to make a guide for the final unlockable character? I consider him as odd as some of the other characters you've been uploading about (namely Sheikah Slate) but I don't think you would make it so early.

All I know is that you can cancel the magnesis rune into stasis, essentially letting you use 2 runes without cooldown, don't know if it can cancel into any other runes though
It’s definitely much better to put 4 attack speed seals on Daruk. It maximises his ability to spam 5YX combo to stunlock, and getting 5 extra attack damage on a weapon is utterly pointless compared to that. Apart from that good guide :)

He's god tier for very hard bar time limited missions, a true tank in every sense of the word but he can clap cheeks too.
He also HARD carries the one hit to death missions, since he's damn near unstoppable.

Kohga's is way better than Daruk's. Even without it his unique action more than makes up for it. I'll be getting to him real soon

Kohga can cancel out but the timing is super specific. I've only done it twice

Just after I finished the Rampaging Malice Terrako quest. I over levelled my Daruk so much cuz I have no idea how to play him. Perfect timing XD.

@@questrequested9171 Yunobo is all about his enhanced C5 cancel, top tier damage dealer. Enhanced C1(yellow bubble) --> Stasis(cancel) --> ZR looking for orange bubble ---> enhanced C5(cancel) --> weak-point smash. Weapon build = Strong-Attack++ X5(1 from hidden seal).
You forgot to mention that yunobo would show colors at certain points 👉 in his attacks 👊. And based on the colors he'd strike with the heavy attacks such as certain colors belonging to one of his 6 strong attacks. Of course you'd have to turn on his color attack thing first in order to use it.

No, I think Teba is the slowest runner (ironically enough because he flies). I was playing him and CPUs Sidon and Yunobo were going way faster than me.

At the end despite his minor flaws it is really nice to see the big slow guy get a good moveset after what they did to Darunia in the previous Hyrule Warriors
Daruk is pretty good, but 80% (or maybe more) of challenges have a time limit, which doesn't go well with Daruk's playstyle
Don't use him on those side missions. Use him on the main stories.
A strategy I use to shred weak point gauges is to use c6, dodge cancel to use his c2, and then press ZR to make 5 exploding pillars on the weak point revealed by his c6.

Will say: Daruk's DLC Enhanced Ability gives him the thing he needed most, a higher skill ceiling and a Weak Point Revealer.
Basically, he gets a Parry Mechanic.
13:40 I think they gave it Dash Attack because, like Riju, you can possibly spam dash X constantly, which would make Daruk more of shielder AND hit-and-runner. Catch is that he's not as good as Riju in the hit-and-run department.
I must admit I haven't put that much emphasis on guarding in this game because often I tried to fish for flurry rush dodging instead. It's good to know give guarding more of a chance with him, didn't even notice the extend of his invinciblity, since his at a glance kit is very eh compared to link and the other champtions.
Is it up to preference to have Daruk flurry rush or fish for a strong attack I opening?
So much I either forgot or just didn’t do that he shows and I’m mad like I could’ve been doing this or that the whole time but I beat it already
I noticed that his boulders did damage. Now I prefer Link and Impa because I'm a hack and slash kinda player, but I always used the strengths of whomever I play with, even Hestu (who I actually have fun to playing with). And the thing I noticed about Daruk was his shield 🛡 and his boulders lava attacks. The shield 🛡 was obvious because it'd make the game look bad if the obvious red circle 🔴 he was in was penetrated just as easily as everyone else's, especially with the history of how thay made link and his shield work in the past generations.
Another fantastic character guide! Was pretty skeptical about Daruk at first because I love love love my stasis....but this is a great break down of what other strengths he has and more! Will definitely be picking him up more now that I got a better understanding, thanks for this!

Daruk is my main, I know enough about how to play him to be unstoppable. The only instances when I CAN be stopped is in a level where you can't play as Daruk.
I've enjoyed my time using Daruk whenever I feel like it. Of course my crowning achievement with him is using his barrier to help weather the storm of, and I kid you not, five to six Malice Guardians at the same time all constantly firing lasers at me. Probably one of the most satisfying cheeses I've done in recent memory!

With attack speed up, you can easily lock mobs in a weak point state. 4x regular and 1strong attack where he flips into a ramp will stagger enemies and expose their weakpoint

I started out with a bad impression of daruk as all I could think about was how slow and sluggish darunia was but once I actually tried him out I was pleasantly surprised at how fun he actually is, can't say the same thing about the other goron in this game though, because we really needed another rng based character cause lana(gate) was so much fun in the first game
In my opinion he's not that slow. However, I've always been a go with the flow kinda person.
With Daruk, the challenge: Taming the Savage Lynel becomes super easy. You just dock behind the shield and throw bombs!!!

With the time stasis rune, if you are to setup pillars before using it, the damage increases, more the merrier as they say. Noticed this earlier when forgetting to destroy the remaining pillars as they get destroyed during use.

It's incredible how under rated this god level tank is, his final charge attack destroys mobs and he can stun lock and block nigh on anything. If he could dodge cancel stasis he would be op so it fits he can't.

Having never played a Warriors game before, and coming from playing mostly Souls and Souls-likes, Daruk is a perfect beginner character, especially against bosses. Just turtle in shield and swing a massive Ultra Great Sword around haha. Feels just like the first Dark Souls haha.
Dojo, the DLC made Daruk playable hahaha. Finally we are not going to be trolled by the devs anymore with the seals they made for this character lol
For his fourth strong attack (YYYX,) you can dodge out of the rock throw if you want to leave the pillar out.

I use daruks 3rd strong attack and explode the ramp instead of using it and it does good damage to the weak point gauge, it did more damage the the roll attack to the weak point
Daruk and Revail's combination of Stasis runes. Daruk then revali for stasis can be effective, with all the arrows raining after it.

Personally I find Daruk's Stasis is so bad that his remote bomb becomes the preferred rune for weakpoint damage, plus the pillars it sets up are closer and more likely to be useful.
Come to think of it, Daruk’s 2nd strong attack looks just like the time in breath of the wild’s dlc.
The dlc now allows you to remove the dash attack seal for the boulder breaker
You mention a lot of the fights against bosses. If you can, also what would you use to clear a map of all the enemies? I personally prefer to farm materials with the shieka sensor seal and clearing out a full map is a lot of fun :) Daruk is pretty slow for that compared to Link or Impa for instance
What attack do you use for Impa to clear out maps? Gosh I have difficulty using her to clear enemies. I just use her regular attacks with her clones but that don't kill enemies instantly. Her c6 neither. The best characters to clear out enemies in my opinion are the Great Fairies, Teba and Revali. Followed by Link.
To answer your question, I use his c6 to clear out the map plus ZR. But yeah, he excel more at defeating multiple bosses at the same time than clearing out maps. He's pretty average at that, though not as low as some characters considering he's larger and have a more 360⁰ range for his C6's strong attack. Most characters' attacks are only one directional.
I cannot be convinced that anyone on the receiving end of Daruk’s strong dash attack has any right to be alive after that. Having a giant man of rocks launch himself into the air, then come crashing back down like a meteor right on top if you…

I don't know about you guys but I prefer Daruk than the other 3 champions especially when you're against bosses. He becomes more stronger in comparison to others due to Daruk's protection that offers defense against almost all attacks. I always spam 4YX (I don't have max atk spd yet from weapons so I don't know if 5YX at the end is better). Very effective at stunlocking bosses especially lynels and taluses. His only weakness like what others said is the ability to cancel stasis. But who cares about that if you don't allow bosses to attack you to begin with.
Except other characters have stun lock combos as well, and can fully use Stasis, and their stun locks are generally faster...
Which means if you get hit by an arrow or random attack as Daruk, you're in a bad spot without Stasis to fix things...
And the trick with Stasis is not only can you use it to hold weak points, but stasis an enemy and time it well to reveal their weak point for an infinite combo starter.
Most attacks you defend with Daruk's protection can be guarded by others though they get a shield break, which isn't a problem 99% of the time, so his defense falls off pretty quickly or just learn how to dodge the attacks and you have a better Daruk's Protection which auto-exposes weak points and gives you a bunch of free attacks.
Everything he does is less then the others, which is his drawback.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 generally speaking yes. Especially if you always use Link or Impa which are powerhouses. At the end it depends on your playstyle, how you master every character and the situation. For example Daruk is very effective in small spaces and close quarters in which Revali will have more difficulty. Enlightened Zelda can't cancel stasis too but yet she's one of the most powerful characters albeit she has her own type of gameplay. Her stasis is not meant to be used as a combo starter but as a combo finisher. That stasis drains a lot of WPG.
For example, there was a time that I was on a mission where I was against more than 5 guardians on very hard. I had difficulty playing even as Impa or Mipha which are two of my favourite characters to always play beside Link. Daruk on the other hand singlehandedly defeated all of them. I think it was more than 8-10 guardians that Daruk killed that were just keep coming at me. His C5 attack is just great at keeping enemies stunlocked infinitely if you put attack speed on your weapon. And his Daruk's protection is great at keeping close to your enemy to counter immediately their attacks without getting damage. At the end you can stunlock bosses with any characters especially if you have attack speed. The only difference is that Daruk don't have stasis cancel. But he don't need that if you have a c5 instead to always use, considering that most characters' stunlock combo is C6 which is much slower. Daruk don't need to wait for an enemy to attack and use stasis to start a combo. His c5 attack do that job for him.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 and it's not true that most characters can shield break. Only Link, Rija and Urbosa can do that. And even with that, their backs are exposed. Try shielding and doing flurry rush when you're up against many bosses especially at small spaces where the camera angle sucks. And I don't agree that he's slow. He's not one of the fastest but he's fairly fast just like what the uploader of the video said.
I wondered for the longest time why Daruk was the only champion whose special ability wasn't fully integrated into his playstyle. Never noticed he had a special block until now.

I agree that strong attack is super good on daruk but he also really needs attack speed so he can stun lock so I do 2 attack speed and 2 strong attack perfectly balanced as all things should be

Definitely. He outstands many characters when the situation is against many bosses. I tried Impa on that mission on very hard and I was killed many times even though she's the second strongest to Link. I played as Daruk and bam, I defeated all of them in one go with no damage! Just use his shield when they're attacking seeing you cannot heal and use YYYYX to always put them on stunlock if you have attack speed on your weapon. The latter is even more effective if they're close to each other to save time.
Are you going to make a guide for the final unlockable character? I consider him as odd as some of the other characters you've been uploading about (namely Sheikah Slate) but I don't think you would make it so early.

All I know is that you can cancel the magnesis rune into stasis, essentially letting you use 2 runes without cooldown, don't know if it can cancel into any other runes though
It’s definitely much better to put 4 attack speed seals on Daruk. It maximises his ability to spam 5YX combo to stunlock, and getting 5 extra attack damage on a weapon is utterly pointless compared to that. Apart from that good guide :)
