Great video sir, I’m currently making my first 500gal smoker and I really learn a lot from you and Mr Mikes welding techniques I’ve never welded either so cross your fingers 😂😂😂 gotta start somewhere right
great vids for sure im in the process at the moment to starting mine. Mine is no were as big as yours I do have a 500g tank like yours but to me thats to big for my first time. So I am looking forward to see what I can do,but geez any advice you got please reach out id take anything I can get knowledge is key.
You got this! It’s all about enjoying the process (as cliche as that sounds haha) hit me up anytime with questions. I’m no expert but I sure learned a lot 😂
I just finish my corners with a saws-all blade or a jig saw. No need to stress trying to fit a cut off wheel in there. Then clean up the corner with a file
Brother where were you a year ago when I was racking my head on this haha. Luckily it all worked out! Thanks for the comment, subscription and support. It really means a lot!
Digging it man. I too have watched countless pit building videos and yours by far is the best one yet. I have a lot of the same ideas that I will be doing on my 250 build so its nice to see it first lol, we prob have watched a few of the same videos
Alright. 3 or 4 vids now I'll sub. Mystic Smokers shares everything I need to know to build a smoker. I'm here for this positive energy, sharing struggles and success. May your blessings be bountiful. I know Easter is near!
Looking good, just found your channel last night, I've watched most of the vids so far. Currently in the very early stages of building a largish offset, not as big as yours, but still decent. Our tank is currently about 330-335 gallons, it's an old tank that used to be in the oil and gas industry, I think it was used to pull water off the oil or gas wells. Either way, ours is essentially flat-ended pipe, 30" dia, about 5/16" thick steel and 9 feet long. We've opened it up and built a fire inside to heat it up and burn of any hydrocarbons that may have lingered, but I don't think it was used primarily for that, if there were any in there, they were likely just contaminants. Going to make a nice setup, I think. we bought a boat trailer as well and are going to cut it down, narrow and shorten it, and make it suitable to mount our tank upon. What is your plan for your smoker in terms of mobility? Are you going to do something similar with a trailer, or is it going to be mounted on casters of its own to pull it around or what? We're also trying to make plans for size of firebox and whether we want just an exhaust tube 6" or 8", not sure if we want a collector chamber - still doing research on if I think that is really a big benefit or not. Glad to hear any info you've got. Either way, looks like you're doing a very slow and meticulous build, you're doing a great job. I've been thinking we needed a plasma cutter for all we have to do, but it's been really neat to see the precision of your cuts and how profession they look with just using a cutoff wheel, I'm really encouraged by that. Great work, keep it up, man!
You’ll have a ton of fun with you build. I mounted the smoker on a 16’ trailer so it’s pretty mobile. As far as firebox I would use a a 24” round pipe 3/4” thick at minimum for that size cook chamber. Or just use a half of a 250 gallon thank for the firebox. May sound like overkill but you can regular the amount of heat exposure but controlling the throat opening size from firebox to cook chamber. If that makes sense?
Do you have a rough idea on the amount of steel you need for the insulated firebox as related to the cooking chamber. I probably will make mine square, because it is very difficult to find tanks here in Spain so a square firebox is an easier option. Thank you
Unfortunately I don't have much insight in the way of insulated plate cut fireboxes. I know my was around 40-42" long for my 500. The facebook forms are very helpful with this if you haven’t joined one. Sorry I'm not much help there.
instead of the corners could you have left metal on the sides, i think it’d be a less stressful and easier grind than those tight corners by the hinge but i’m not real handy so idk
Haha there’s for sure a thousand and 1 way I could have made this bad boy less stressful. But I seem to always learn the hard way 😅 Thanks for the subscription, comment and support. It means a lot!!
@@MeatNGreetBBQ Ofcourse man, hope my comment didn’t come off the wrong way btw. I was wondering about building a smoker and your videos seem more genuine than the others, so it felt right to sub to ya.
