For decades, the US has been grappling with a devastating opioid crisis, with nearly a million drug overdose deaths since 1999. Opioid addiction was initially fuelled by pharmaceutical companies aggressively promoting prescription painkillers. But the arrival of fentanyl on the black market exacerbated the problem, with a potency 100 times stronger than morphine. China, with its massive chemical industry, has long played a significant role in the illicit fentanyl trade. But efforts to curb its production and export have led to a shift in operations to countries like India.

Blame overseas when the problem is self control and national regulation on medical practices, medical fee, and drug prices in the US
Well said.
*and Biden doesn't care.*
The problem is why people want to use fentanyl in the first place...
💯
Close your mouth it is all because of china
By USA's logic, drug addictions in societies in China should be the worse than USA. Why? Because they should have the cheapest and easiest access to their own citizens. Don't blame others for your own irresponsibility and your inability to control your population.

What SCMP IS not saying is those precursor substances are also for making other prescriptions including vitamins. So, China didn’t make fentanyl. If you sell those precursor chemical individually, they are not illegal. U.S. citizens must blame the pharma for allowing this to happen. Plus, educate the US citizens. Stop blaming everything on China.
It's happening because usa doesn't allow any opiates to be sold over the counter. Do only thing available on streets is the most potent research chemicals because it's easiest to make and smuggle.
Usa needs to legalize poppy growing and allow adults to purchase codiene and morphine extract from said poppies. As narcan can work on both codiene and morphine no problem..overdose deaths would plummet to the lowest level in decades if that happened.

Hollywood Movie 'Contagion 2011' has prophesized the exact scenario of Coronavirus in 2020 - can we get the Director to explain !!!
The state of the U.S is very sick and only getting worse. There is no cure.
The U$A population only accounts for 5% of the global population, but consumes 80% of the world's opioids, and so far the U$ has no permanent control of fentanyl-like substances.
That's a totally false statistic. Lies like that you just put out kills people
Yet US spends hundreds of billions in defence🤷🏻
In the realm of gun control within the United States, the prevailing sentiment asserts that it is the individuals wielding the firearms rather than the guns themselves that pose the threat. This analogy extends to the realm of drugs, where the blame for fatalities is placed on the users rather than the substances. The principle that where there is a demand, a corresponding supply emerges holds true in this context. Within the American landscape, the cessation of one drug merely propels individuals to seek out alternative substances in pursuit of heightened experiences, perpetuating an unending cycle. The prevalence of substance use among Americans commences at a tender age, with illicit drug distribution being alarmingly rampant within educational institutions overseen by different factions. This firsthand insight is derived from personal experiences growing up in the United States. Regrettably, the nation stands as the largest global consumer of illegal narcotics, a predicament seemingly without a foreseeable resolution.
How do you prevent the sales of those precursors, while it is also being used to produce agrochemical product (such crop fertilizer), dye for textiles, epileptic drugs and many others?
Even cough syrup's precursors can be used to make the deadly methamphetamine.
its like blaming cigarrete shop/company, but ur as parents let ur kids smoking everyday 🤡
look at others countries they very stricted to ppls using drugs, so no issue,
unlike U$ freedom gov & polices lets ppls using it in public areas 🤡
Wouldn’t be surprising after the COVID-19 outbreak I’m not sure what to think anymore
So, the answer is "no".
From who's perspective? I'm trying to remember whether it was Mexico foreign minister or trade minister who put it best. "We are so unfortunate. We are right in the middle of BY FAR the largest market for illicit drugs and one of the largest region for the production of said drugs. We suffer crime and smuggling as the result." The same thing can be said about China. It borders one the world's largest regions for drug production and human trafficking and the US is one of its biggest markets.
The poignant point is this, the US, Canada and Europe has never taken responsibility for their own actions. Their decriminalization of various formerly illegal activities, defunding of policing, breakdown of social order and, speaking as one with a groundview in New York, bail "reform," led to these problems. They are problems that arose as of the US' own choice.

Nobody is forcing anyone to take fentanyl.
Except when the corrupt US healthcare system pushes opioid painkillers onto the general public for years getting them hooked onto the drugs they peddle like a government approved drug dealer.
Americans then can't afford their healthcare and get cut off from said opioids then they look to the cornerstore drug dealer for cheap alternatives like Fentanyl which is originally an animal tranquilizer.
These addicts have no choice. They have a disease brought upon them by the healthcare system they trusted in. This is what happens when you privatise healthcare and put profits before the health of people.

The problem with drugs is that there will always be a market for them. This has been true through history.
Making them illegal does very little to affect the market demand and instead just makes the market more lucrative and profitable.
It is due to legislators around the world not willing to recognize this that much of the other crime continues to gets its cashflow.
Meanwhile legalization can transfer away trillions of dollars from cartels each year and all that money can be spend on improving medial care, addiction treatment and educating people on the dangers of drugs.
