- The Wicked Spoon Buffet at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is now open. The buffet has reopened with an all-you-can-eat buffet served to you by staff, rather than you serving yourself. You still go up to the buffet and request what you'd like. The Wicked Spoon is only open as a brunch buffet, Thursday through Sunday, and reservations are recommended. I ate at the Wicked Spoon buffet right after the Las Vegas reopening.

The food quality at the Wynn looked good, but the menu was not that extensive for a buffet -- also very pricey. The Wicked Spoon's selection looked more extensive but not as fancy and only for brunch, and also less expensive than the Wynn.
depends on price. lol wicked spoons you get up. i think they wynn you dont. I like to see it at the spoon what i want instead of just reading it at the Wynn. plus I like better price. your food looked yummy. I'm gonna say the Wicked spoon for sure!!!!
Wynn was one of the worst buffet I ever been to! Foods was horrible! Also waited 30 minutes just for a cold Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes!
@@ksteven559 Happened to me also, horrible food and I went every day at brunch because we had free brunch with reservation. We tried everything just to give it a chance and everyday it was horrible. How do you mess up French toast, mushy bread. Dry dry dry fried chicken. Mac and cheese was powered with powder cheese.

There was very little media about them opening up. As I walked in I said we beat Derek to the buffet. As I watched this morning, I walked right past him in the 8 minute mark! How funny, good thing I didn't see you, I would have made a scene, huge fan!

They can easily drop the glass partition all the way down to the counter so no one reaches in, yet sees the food up close. A server behind, can then serve what customer wants.
I was thinking how much that would cost! Especially for something that is only temporary (the buffet will resume normal half-yourself operation after vaccine arrives (early 2021)).
I was thinking signs that were about 3 times larger saying what the food was would be a huge help to begin with!
This new buffet style may work in Vegas because it's such a big part of the Vegas experience but I worry that this won't work in less touristy communities.....I think a lot of buffet style restaurants are going to go out of business

I love this concept. Personally, I like being served even if it's a buffet. The food stays safe and the Employees get to keep their jobs. How wonderful.

Even though I have gone to Las Vegas yet I like this style they the cosmo is doing. It’s close to what a buffet is like before the shut down. Wynn has change and it not like a buffet anymore.

I went for the Wynn Gourmet Dinner this past Friday, it was NOT worth the money at all. All the meats and even the crab legs were massively overseasoned with salt. They kept messing up our orders too and giving them to random tables. It was a total chaotic disaster for 70 dollars each, noooo thanks.
I like Wynn’s gourmet level taste, but it was often over spiced. Overall I rate it #2 compared to Cosmo’s buffet

I'm not sure why you complain about not being able to see the food very well but then say you like the Wynn better because they bring the food to you like at a sit down restaurant yet you don't get to see the food at all until it arrives at the table.
A bit of a contradiction here being presented in the videos. Seeing is believing is best!
Since all the serving staff is distributed along the buffet line, all of the service isn't concentrated on the table servers. Part of the "fun" of a buffet is see the item before you order it. I like this method more than strict table service, but there will be increased costs.
thats fine by me i never want people to be able to serve themselves again. people are just nasty. no hand washing, letting kids touch stuff.. this is such a breath of fresh air... point and ill pass it too you... great system

This system has its flaws but it is a much better way of doing things than Wynn's because you don't have to wait so long at your table for your food. Perhaps they should place big signs up at each station stating the name of each food item to help with the selection process.

So far, I like how the wicked spoon runs their buffet. I'm used to looking at the buffet closer.
This is the second video I've seen where you are throwing it in my face that I don't have a fiancee. Congratulations, Derek! The food seems better over at Wynn, but the style of serving at Wicked Spoon is closer to a "real" buffet. I'll be trying at least one of them next week.

As a Canadian who adheres to masks (which are mandatory now on our transit system) this buffet has tried to do things as safely as possible and still give you a buffet experience. Thanks for the vid!
Your fiancé is an excellent food reviewer. She’s very descriptive. I would have passed on the jar of scrambled eggs. It sounds weird.

They may be doing them in the jars to keep the eggs hot so they dont get cold just my observation

Agreed, probably the closest to a "normal" buffet we'll get until this is all over. Possibly a model for others to copy when they reopen. Will be interesting to see which way the Bacchanal goes with when it reopens.

I thought Wynn’s food was worse tasting than Cosmopolitan buffet, because Cosmo’s food is served individually (and usually just made). I’d still rank Wynn #2 overall

Another great video Derek. I always get scrambled eggs at brunch but the scrambled egg in the jar was not appealing. I love shrimp too but when I saw your fiancee eat that fried shrimp head I almost lost it! 🤣 I don't know if I could ever do that but she made it sound so gooood!!! Another fine video documenting the opening of the new Las Vegas. Listen with good headphones for total immersion in the sounds and activity of the Wicked Spoon. Your fiance is an excellent addition. But she needs a name other than "my fiance." Something like Vegas Girl or something.

I'm pretty much finished with buffets at this point.. I'll just go to a full service restaurant...but to each his own.
the problem is buffets use to be a great value for your money. Then the foodies invaded vegas and all of a sudden buffets are $60 a person..... better off sitting down and getting more of what you like instead of $60 worth of small plates

Food looks great, and varied. I like the idea of being able to choose by sight, vs. off a menu, and you don't have to wait for food, like at the Wynn. Wicked Spoon seems better for samplers. I guess if you know what you want , do the Wynn, though, and just order to keep it coming.
If you already know the taste of the dish you can ask for two instead of one at the Wicked Spoon.

I am going to Las Vegas this coming Tuesday. Wicked spoon is one of my favorite buffets. Can’t wait to go.
You make a nice couple. Derek can provide the sardonic relief. Always get a laugh or two or three from each video. I love eating lamb. Nice memories my Irish Brooklyn mother would always cook lamb for Easter. We would go to church and everybody would smell like lamb on their clothing.

While not ideal, I think I like this method better than last week's Wynn Buffet video. At the Wynn, you can't even see the food... they just bring it to you. At least here, you can see what you might want (I know, it's at a distance) and can get the food faster than waiting for the wait staff to bring it to your table. This method seems more like "buffet style" to me than at the Wynn. The Wynn's method seems just like any other restaurant, but it's unlimited food for a couple of hours.
That seems about right. This place gets my vote thus far into the latest Vegas reviews

The shrimp shell is healthy for you when deep fried. It helps lower cholesterol and supports joint health.

I'm employed by a one of the major strip properties and have seen Derek and his fiance a few times.....for all the curious people out there....without breaking confidentiality agreements. Derek has done well for himself.

I think that this approach to running the buffet is great -- a compromise from what it was before, but if it can be done safely with no employees or patrons getting sick, then congratulations to the Wicked Spoon. The food looks good with a good selection. Maybe they just need to make the print size larger on the food description placards on the buffet.
I think the best strategy is to use the qr code right out the gate. Once you get the logistics and menu down you can probably bounce around and try a lot of variety like before.
Was really surprised how much focus was on the “not seeing the food” over and over while he loved the wynn where for $20 more pp you couldn’t see the food at all...

Derek, thanks for the video on this. Like with the Wynn buffet video, it's really nice seeing how they've adapted. From the videos, I like the way the Wicked Spoon is operating better. I'd rather be able to go up to the buffet as frequently as I like when I'm ready for the next round than have to wait for somebody to bring something around to me. I could see a bit of a drawback not being able to see the offerings right up close, but I do think I'd be much more comfortable with the Wicked Spoon setup vs the Wynn setup. Thanks for showing us all the changes!!
I like the Wynn buffet idea better. Even if you have to wait longer for the server to bring it to you. It just makes it a nicer experience.

yeah Me too when you eating Shrimp 🍤 or prawn 🦐 what ever you’ve gonna take the head off first you cannot eat like. That because Most the time head of t Shrimp 🦐 are very Sharp and if you eat like that it might get cut out the very sharp part of that in your throat you have to chew it really really good otherwise you you have big problem with like that Lady She’s just put her mouth the head of prawn 🦐 it’s kind of dangerous for me 👎👎👎

Good to have your detailed comments on each food choice, Derek. Its a non-buffet buffet ie diners can't see it, can't read the small labels and can't help themselves. The extra staff must be expensive so why not just go for table service from a menu with pictures you can view on your phone? Your fiance was right about the shrimp! They should adjust the price to reflect the smaller range of food . especially the absence of roast meats. Thanks !

Being from Louisiana, I've eaten my fair share of shrimp and seafood. I have never seen anyone eat the head of a shrimp. That was a first. Since the food is plated and you have to wear a mask to get the food, they should just let you grab it yourself. Don't see a need for a middle man.
eating whole shrimp heads isn't so uncommon in asia. especially when they're deepfried and crispy like that. :)
Kevin Hall I agree. No reason for the customer not to be able to grab their own plate. The middle man just adds another person who touches the plate, actually increasing the risk.
@@jbeechuk the servers wore gloves to help reduce contamination. if customers HAD to wear gloves would agree with you, otherwise everything they can do to help reduce accidental touching helps. and tonges would be an absolute NO!
I liked how they don't let people touch the plates and prefer that. You just can't trust people nowadays. Some will just touch plates with food then return them like it is nothing.
