That is a health code violation . Notice the omelette chef pulled a thermometer out of his shirt. Very dangerous to serve eggs cold like that!I am a retired chef. They will dry out or spoil before they get to any temp that is safe. Once you determined they were cold you should not have kept eating them. I am thinking they were yesterday’s leftover, refrigerated and were going to be passed off as fresh! Someone on the line ( lazy) didn’t bother to heat them thinking the steam tray would get them hot! 🤢I will definitely pass on this one
Speaking of the egg chef, not only was he borderline rude to Derrick (That was for their benefit pointing out a misstep on THEIR PART mind you) but he looked dirty and unkept. Yuck🤢

Since the buffet only operates Wed-Sun, and Derek said it was Wednesday.....maybe last Sunday's scrambled eggs were frozen and were put out partially thaw. Whatever the case, Luxor is a dump. I wouldn't eat an any restaurant there nor sleep in their beds. I'd bet $26.99 they have bed bugs too. I saw the icky room when Annette (the poker player) stayed there. Looks on par with a Motel 6 in Barstow.
You can't reheat eggs in steam table, you have to bring go rapid heat at 160 for 30 seconds for reheat. Wtf!

they havent opened the tropicana breakfast buffet in atlantic city used to be 20 dollars and they closed the other eat in place also
I had a bad feeling about the buffet when I saw how sloppily-maintained the serving dishes were and how shriveled the sausages looked- and that was just in the opening shots. Nobody is wiping up the spills around the food and a lot things look dried out or empty. That buffet is not worth $5. Unrefrigerated cream puffs, too, just in a basket. Aargh, don't keep eating the cold eggs, Derek! I will absolutely pass on this buffet! Thanks for taking it for the team Derek and Catherine!
I think the underground Raiders of the Lost Ark-esque dining room that hasn't changed since the 1993 opening is still great to experience as a vestige of the theme trend of the 90's. In fact the theming for this buffet is so on point even the food is as dry and salty as the Egyptian desert.
This comment is 💯 Sums up everything I was thinking as I'm watching this lol. Hope Luxor never goes away simply because of the 90s theme park/adult Disneyland vibe.
The way Vegas casinos have become so anonymous and boring is sad. I miss the days when the casinos weren't afraid to lean into their theming. It was fun!

I remember as a kid, it was called Pharaoh’s Feast. Long lines all the time to get in. Food was always delicious and waiters actually served drinks. Sad to see how far it has declined

The steam from the eggs is coming from the steam pans underneath. The heat wasn't getting to the eggs to keep them warm.
It surprises me that there wasn’t someone temping every dish and recording the results. And what did the omelette cook sanitize his probe with, a wet cloth he had sitting around? They also need an attendant to circle the buffet with some sanitizer and wipe up the spills.
Last week was all you can eat toasts for $50 at the Bellagio, this week is all you can eat eggs for $27 at the Luxor.

Just wanted to share this with you...I broke my leg on a broken sidewalk going to check-in at Caesars, so we were very limited but still went ahead and saw shows and made most of our reservations (we were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary). I gotta tell you Lavo's weekend brunch was one of our favorites, they were sooo nice, and the food was incredible!!! We also enjoyed Nine Fine Irishmen, and Hugo's Cellars (although broke leg right after we left and didn't get to enjoy the steak....it was my leftovers), Chicago Pub was great, and the High Roller with the bar was FABULOUS (GET THE BAR)!! Bacchanal Buffet although waitress was nice, the one seating us was quick to tell me that I would be in the way and I needed to use crutches so my husband ran the whole time (try caring a plate and crutches?) and that would have been fine, if she hadn't let someone at least 20 years younger than me go along with her scooter (she almost ran over one man and was driving crazy...she had a wrap around her knee and honestly didn't look like she was hurting at all?) I'm gonna tell you ...breaking your leg and having to use Handicapped for everything really opens your eyes!! The places we LOVED, we above and beyond and shows Criss Angel and Absinthe will work with you to help you. I normally get around just fine...so maybe this will help someone with mobility issues?
I ate at the MGM Buffet this week and would be interested in your opinion before declaring Luxor the champion. I needed a steak knife for the pancakes and the gravy for biscuits and gravy was nothing more than brown colored water. While any buffet can have heating issues, I do admit having popcorn puts Luxor in a whole new category. I do believe closing the buffet at 3pm does cut down on the number of health code violations.

there is no buffet value in vegas hotels only outside

Luxor was built by Circus Circus Enterprises which owned Circus Circus and Excalibur and later became Mandalay Resorts Group when they built Mandalay Bay.
At the time the Luxor buffet was a step above Excalibur which was a step above Circus Circus.
The Luxor buffet was originally on the casino level. There was a replica of King Tut's tomb where the buffet is now located.
The tomb was moved to the attraction level above the casino. The tomb is now history like so many of Luxor's original attractions
(does anyone remember the Nile River ride?).

I'm glad you mentioned about the cold eggs. I believe that warm food needs to be served at a certain temperature in order to be considered safe.

My 2nd biggest concern for our upcoming Vegas trip (next to Covid) is the understaffed facilities. I also believe that a lot of the restaurants are using very new/green staff and they haven't worked out the finer details of preparing/serving food. This is my impression of part of the problem that you guys experienced. Either that or there is a severe inventory shortage and they only have popcorn to serve!!!!!
It's always amazing how when someone is frustrated about one aspect of the meal, every subsequent element of the experience is suspect and everything seems sub-par.

I heard Main Street Station reopens soon. Assuming they’ll have the buffet, would love to see you try that out. Always my favorite downtown.

You can get sick anywhere if guidelines aren't followed. I got sick from scrambled eggs at a sit down coffee shop at a Las Vegas Hotel/ Casino which is no longer there. Still I agree with you on don't get scramble eggs at a buffet.
That pastry station looked like it came straight out of the cellophane packaging from Costco

I’ve noticed it before in reviews of this buffet. I think it’s because they are in a basement and it’s the fans.
The chef didn't seem to give a shit when you told him about the cold eggs. What a crappy attitude. I always avoid the Luxor buffet. It's looks downright nasty. Kudos to you and Catherine for "taking one for the team".

I remember when this buffet was $15 and it was a rough go then. Luxor has been lousy since Cathouse replaced the Sacred Sea Room and Isis. However if you're stuck there for breakfast, the pancake pyramid at the breakfast-only coffee shop is fun and better than the buffet food. But I've eaten everywhere in the place from here to Tender and restaurants inbetween and the food court and maybe T&T are the only places I'd consider now.
I love Luxor. It’s a cheap but great place to stay that’s pretty much on the strip. My biggest gripe is there are not a lot of great food options. The Cantine is okay but the rest is pretty average. The buffet was closed a couple weeks ago when I went. I guess I lucked out lol.

I'm wondering why, after you got a huge plate of scrambled eggs and they were stone cold, why would you go back and get a big serving of MORE cold eggs?
My guess would be just to confirm that all the egg stations were serving cold scrambled eggs.

It was an honest look and taste of Luxor. I felt really bad for you guys and as always, you both were so gracious. Don't think I will bisit Luxor Buffet until they can put out some good quality food. Thanks you guys. Loved tour review of the Luxor.❤

When it first was constructed and opened, Luxor was owned by the same company that ran Circus Circus and the Excalibur. And it’s buffet was (barely) a step above those for quality; at least no hamburgers or hot dogs on the line. Breakfast was okay not a definite skip for lunch or dinner. Oddly, when the Monte Carlo, now Park MGM, was being built, it was a collaboration between a Steve Wynn and Circus Circus and the speculation was over which side of that spectrum that it’s buffet would take after. At first, it was closer to Mirage and Treasure Island (Wynn properties at the time) and, later, it was much closer to the Circus Circus level of (lack of ) quality.

Looks pretty typical for buffets you can win a free or BOGO comp for if you play a little while with your player's club card. They're usually pretty blah. But I'm still glad to see you back at buffets again, even if it's bad, I enjoy watching them! Thanks for taking one for the team to entertain us.

Spent one night at the Luxor during my last Vegas trip a few weeks ago. Had not stayed there in many years. All I can say was this property was down right scary. Buffet was not open yet. Most restaurants closed very early and this was on a Saturday night. The worst was walking to your room. No one checking room keys. Walking down long dark hallways. I keep looking behind me. You really can see what happens when a property is not kept up. It was truly sad and scary.
Wow I remember in the 90s when Luxor was a top tier hotel and a great Buffett now just another circus circus on the south end
I remember staying there 20+ years ago and trying to eat at the buffet. The line was so long we couldn’t get in. The coffee shop was great. Of course, we also got to ride on the faux Nile River. Guess the good buffet is gone, along with the river.

12:38 OMG the staff! Man, you cannot take food that people already touched and put them in your supposedly clean cookware and reserve them! Health violations all over. They should be checking the temperature of the food periodically all day long.

The fruit probably is plastic. I hear that industrial whining noise in the buffet area from the last time you reviewed Luxor Buffet. I couldn’t imagine being a line cook or server having to listen to that all day. So happy that you are revisiting some buffets as they reopen.
So I looked at the most current reviews on Yelp and it looks like you are right. I have never seen so many one stars for a Vegas buffet

Not shocking that buffet has always been bad. Tried two times never again. It’s worse than Golden Corral. Just stick to wicked spoon at cosmo. Perfect everything including service and the best desserts on any buffet. I rather pay $38 for great food than $27 for what you were offered. Mystery food is never good.

Derek, I’m glad you at least liked the ice cream. Pretty obvious that you didn’t like it, facial expressions but most certainly that you didn’t go back for a second plate. We stayed there once 25 years ago and the night we stayed someone jumped off the balcony down to the casino floor.
Pre-made eggs left in the chiller to be reheated for breakfast. Used to work in a restaurant that would pre-poach eggs for brunch eggs Benedict and scrambled eggs too. They would be left in buckets in the chiller and simply re-heated per order the next morning….
Derrick & Catherine, you'll really pushed through with this 1. To me, the only other time Derrick has been this disappointed was that bad 'shrimp' experience. Good video, thanks for sharing!

I see several issues, 1st, it just reopened after a year and a half, probably had to hire a lot of new people than were inexperienced. 2nd trying to do breakfast and lunch at the same time, should shut down for a half hour to change the food over. 3rd, Not enough patronage to turn the food over quickly, food sitting to long. I would go back in a few months to see if there has been any improvement. Also let the buffet management know what the issues are, if people don't speak up management doesn't have any idea that there are some issues. It looks like a nice buffet, not too fancy which I like.
Also it didn't seem like all the food was bad, I've been to some really bad buffets.
Katherine is a trooper I must say because I wouldn't have ate it but she kept on fighting the taste lol . Derrick was like give me ice cream im done after the cold eggs lol.

I remember eating here when they called it 'More' back in 2008. They have not changed the look at all, and it looks like the food is just as bad as it was then. I've had my share of buffets around Vegas and that was probably the worst I had. Best reasonably priced buffet I ever had is the Garden Buffet at South Point.
